hey joe, I will, point me in the right direction?
ya maybe transatlantic is a little neo, but the drummer is sick! they did some cool beatles stuff too
Never heard of Transatlantic, but after checking their website, feel I should have. Don\'t dis all the "neo
****", joe. Marillion, along with Pendragon, were among the best British bands of the eighties, especially when Fish was still with them and Pete Trewavas is bloody good. As for Transatlantic\'s drummer, anyone who could keep Dream Theater together must be amazing; their music is extremely complex in terms of structure and time signatures - perhaps even more difficult than H&TN and the Softs.
I have a fair bit of H&TN and the Softs live and on regular album and love them most days, but even I can find them a bit much sometimes. A lot of new stuff is more accessible at all times - and yes, igzi, there\'s no shame in liking Journey - Lights, Wheel In the Sky etc are monster tracks.
I was going to say dear pal Boombox that Marillion is the ONLY neo prog that I enjoy. Fish is AWESOME, seriously I love that fucker. Too bad he left the band and Marillion turned into a bunch of pussies. Canterbury is my fav genre of all time. Do you know if there is still a live scene there? I was thinking about checking it out when I visit England this summer.
thanks boobox for clearing that up, and seeing that I am not talking out of my ass!!! transatlantic has a great dvd out I recomend checking it out.
Joe, first you say one thing, ie condemning "neo
****", then you come out and say you like Marillion, who were probably the kings of it! You seem a tad confused, my fellow pixie - too much camembert, perhaps??
Marillion I have not heard them in a long time. Like 8 years ago or so I had a friend who would bug the hell out of me to listen to them. I remember it being pretty good.
Script For A Jester\'s Tear and Fugazi should be in every serious rock fan\'s collection, alongside B-Sides Themselves, as Fish and Co did some of their best stuff on the backs of 12"s. IMHO, solo Fish is also better than anything Hogarth has done with the band - didn\'t particularly like the direction the band took after the first two SH albums. Good, just not AS good.
Hey, now there\'s an idea for a cover song or two for the boys - Garden Party or Market Square Heroes.
Boombox thanks!!! kick ass floyd site...I will be spending some time here I with spread the word of Breakfest in there forum ha ha.....
