One word comes to mind...YIKES
I loaded a giant collection I found a while ago onto my ipod of 90\'s hits and I\'m laughing my way through it. Amongst the c &c music factory and boys to men I just came across a few dmb tracks from under the table and dreaming and I forgot just how good that album was.
that is all.
not me by any means, but I just had someone at work try to explain to me how Ronny Dio is the best vocalist ever in rock and challenged me to name anyone as good as him. I suggested tool, radiohead and henry rollins. He said henry rollins was decent, not great, the others suck. "Neither radiohead or tool ("or pod and such bands") have any substance and can hardly hold a tune let alone have harmony or dynamics."
I agreed to disagree.
For what he does Dio is tops. You really would be hard pressed to find another vocalist with the same range and power. His range is around 5 or 6 octave, and the man could easily be working in opera if that was his chosen path.
Thom Yorke has laid down some beautiful vocals, but his strength is how he uses his limited ability to best suit the song.
Henry Rollins was one of my heros growing up, (and a super cool guy, I\'ve actually had the chance to hang out with him) but he\'s a pretty one dimensional vocalist.
MJK is unique and impressive. A favorite of mine, but no Dio either.
But seriously Paul, what do you know about vocals? You listen to Rush.
I knows what I like and that\'s what I listen to. to each his own. I just thought it was a really interesting conversation about dio. As for rush, for example, a lot of people compair rush to dream theater because they\'re both prog, but i can\'t stand that guys voice.
I will admit to owning New Kids on the Block Greatest Hits.
actually since i posted this 4 years ago, i sold that cd in a tag sale.
Someone else is Hangin\' Tough now.
its funny skimming through those old posts-btw.
but my current guilty pleasure mix is britney spears, paramore, katy perry, and no doubt. that\'s a chunk of my workout mix. and it all does the trick.
in the old posts, tears for fears was mentioned. and that still is the same for me. love "head over heels".
