This is probably a Todd question, but I\'l appreciate any help.
My father\'s first GD show was somewhere between 72-74 at Roosevelt Stadium; The Band shared the bill, but played first (this leads me to believe that it was either 7/31/73 or 8/1/73). All he remembers is that there were a lot of technical problems, which led to a lot of short breaks. If I looks up reviews on Archive.org, it shows that there were technical and weather issues at the \'72, but that doesn\'t jive with The Band opening. I wanted to listen to this show to see what he missed after he walked out.
Any help in dating this show would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
if no one can help you out in the next couple hours i have the deadbase setlist book at home.
they only played 6 shows at roosevelt:
7/18/72, 9/19/72, 7/31/73, 8/1/73, 8/6/74, 8/4/76
Yeah - I remember my father saying that due to the constant breaks, by time the dead finally got going it was really late and papers commented that the the dead played until dawn. Needless to say, my father, who showed to see The Band, did not stay through the constant breaks.
If you could look this up in the almanac, that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Todd was 10 years old in 1977, I am pretty sure that he wasn\'t rockin Roosevelt Staidum.....

\'the band\' only opened for the dead at the roosevelt shows in \'73 so i think kindm was spot on with his link for 1973-07-31.
I was only 6 years old in \'73, but I do know that it rained like hell for the 1973-07-31 show. I\'m pretty sure I have copies of this show and the next night\'s.

It down poured the hardest during The Band\'s set. So their set may have had the most technical problems. :shrug:

One of the reasons we Deadheads always called it family. No matter what people want to remember about the end of the GD\'s run even in the end there were entire families enjoying the GOOD OL\' GRATEFUL DEAD together.
That type of fanbase will most likely never happen again.

Babies were not in the front row and there are ear plugs for babies in the crowd. As for the influences how do you figure it\'s bad ? Did you ever partake in a picnic w/ several families during setbreak at Frost Amphitheater? Did you ever place a child on the top of the "Royal Chairs" at the Greek in Berkley and watch the delight in her eyes as she could see everything going on around her?
Have you ever played frisbee... I could go on but as the saying goes THERE IS NOTHING LIKE A GRATEFUL DEAD CONCERT. If you were not there you just don\'t know.
