actually, floyd were in talks with kubrick about composing the score for 2001 and it was pretty much a done deal, but when kubrick played classical music on the set during shooting, he liked it enough that he called off the floyd deal.
Movie - released 1968
Song - released and first played in 1971
It\'s possible, but I doubt that Floyd would shelf this song live until \'71 if it was written 3 years earlier...

no they wrote it after the fact as a "hey remember that movie we were supposed to score? lets write a tuen to it!"
Pure coincidence like DSOTM and Wizard of Oz...
well except for the fact that pink floyd were lined up to score that movie.
oh whatever, why am i arguing with you? yeah it\'s a total coindcidence you\'re right.
and it is not like pink floyd never scored a movie either. cough obscured by the clouds cough.
i\'m too sober to watch that right now, but thanks for posting!
They might have been lined up to do the soundtrack, but I can\'t imagine that they\'d be that bent out of shape that they\'d write an monster of a song like that as an FU...

i don\'t see it as an FU...seems almost complimentary
Argue abt it all you want but the fact is back then it would have been too
**** expensive to do this if they weren\'t getting paid for the score and to do it on a whim is not something Roger Waters would have been behind for the money it would have cost.
It\'s a simple coincidence just like Dorothy and Dark Side.
watched. Saw no correlation between music and video.
I did that back in (98?) when it first came out and while it was cool, I didn\'t see anything that impressive to be a correlation.
