Now maybe this is just my taste is music talking, and to plagerise Satre, "One mans music is another man\'s hell"...but I was at my friends house the other night, hanging out, playing wii/ps3, and we had just built a fire. However, someone\'s iPod full of listenable mid-90s rap was playing and I though to my self "Pretty fire with rap?" What? So at the first chance I got I slowly qued up a random list of bluegrass ****. No one noteworthy, but noone bad.

It took people about 10 minutes to realize what was going on, then an emediate outcry about "country music" "what is this ****?" errupted and the rap went back on.

Whatever, but given a choice of what is good fireside music, loud bass and a synth board, or the high lonesome sound of a fiddle and a mandoline...for me the choice is a no brainer.

PS: Everyone should get a PS3.

i went to a festival at nelson ledges in ohio. after the show (sam bush had just finished up) everyone went back into the trees to their campsites. not five minutes later, some douchenozzle two spots over turned on some insipid techno boredom crap. now, i will admit, not all techno is pure ****, but this **** was utter ****. and considering that folks had come to a show with a bluegrass headliner and were camping in the woods, it was simply untenable. so, i picked up my acoustic guitar and started picking. it took one of his friends coming over and listening for a few minutes, then going back and telling him, \'actually dude, that dude\'s pretty good, maybe we should listen to him for a while.\' for him to turn off his craptastic system. now, i don\'t play bluegrass terribly well (i\'m much better at a hybrid thing i like to call blues-grass), but when that stereo turned off, there was cheering and clapping from all around! i played for hours just to make sure he didn\'t ever start it back up. and when i finished, i heard more acoustics in the distance.

its a shame that so many kids have so little clue... rap (like techno) has its time and place. around a campfire is never the right time or place, however.

Rap can be played at a Bonfire on a beach with mad honeys dancing, drinking and smoking though.

techno rap and bluegrass are all fun. i agree though, campfires demand acoustics IMO. Maybe its cause your in MA though. Im from mass and the people i kick it with at home don\'t bump the bluegrass much. I goto college in the middle of nowhere PA and bluegrass is on all the time.... so is country... ick

I love bluegrass. We have been listening to band called cornmeal as of late. And they are awesome.
its a shame how some people call it country...well old country is a very different thing than new country.
I guess.

for a newer, but more traditional bluegrass band, you simply can\'t go wrong with the infamous stringdusters!! these guys are great! not new/jamgrass, but straight up bluegrass. they either won or were at least up for the best bluegrass album of the year this year. it was their first!

cornmeal is also really good!

but if y\'all aren\'t familiar with john hartford, let me know. if you\'ve ever listened to any letfover salmon show, you\'ve most likely heard at least one of his tunes. if you haven\'t heard any leftover salmon, find anything from 97-99. you will be dumbfounded! i still believe them to have been THE best band of 1997, but i don\'t expect most other folks to agree. they\'re all wrong, but its ok, i know better. i\'m assuming, however, that everyone has heard salmon and loves them as much as they should. but i digress. if you\'ve never heard steam powered aeroplane, it is now out of print. i can probably find a way for you to hear it, though...
