Great Band, Great tunes. vh1 classic right now....
10 year anniversay of Shannon Hoon\'s death.
I was a huge fan of Blind Melon and have always asked myself the "what if" question.
Hoon was one hell of a songwriter, IMO.
If today is October 21st, then yes, it has been a decade since we have last been blessed with Hoon\'s presence.
Can\'t believe it has been that long. I still have the CD single of Tones of Home from when it first came out. I agree, the guy wrote some excellent tunes. For a while over here, you couldn\'t escape No Rain, but then they seemed to to ge no further publicity for what followed.
From what I understand, Blind Melon hit a crossroad about the same time as Hoon began to meet his demise. They wanted to get away from the nostalgia of pop music but weren\'t sure if they want to head down the path of hard style rock or go in the area of "jambands". Towards the end of his life, Hoon was really beat down and confused. Soberity killed him inside, he couldn\'t handle it. Although he died of a
**** overdose, he was "together" (in the bands view) when he was on drugs. In a sense, I guess he was very Morrison like. I still listen to BM on occassion but have hardly ever met anyone who enjoys them for what they were and no the "No Rain" act.
I saw these guys at toads place a few months before he died.. I didnt know the music but I went anyway.. First time I ever saw crowd surfing lol... It was a good show...

I am sure most people know this. Shannon Hoon\'s drug of choice was LSD. The "No Rain" video with the infamous yellow bee was shot that way because he was tripping during the filming of the video and wanted the trip to be that way.(Not sure if I said that clearly) Also, after numerous gigs, shows that would blow the audience away, he would tell the band on the bus after the show, that he had eaten LSD. He was a strange little bird.
Got to see them open for lenny kravitz back in probably 93 @ UMass. I love Nico so much that I consider naming a dog after it.
Nico is a terrific album.
I think Galaxie was a favorite of mine. Changes probably meant the most to me.

lsd will do whatever it wants to you for sure.
Shannon was from Lafayette, IN where Purdue is. Every year we have a vigil by his grave and his mom comes. Hundreds of people come out for it. It\'s a pretty special and emotional time.
great pics of him in this months relix.

The day after PB played Lafayette I drove out to Dayton to see Shannon\'s grave. The sense of presents taken from the site was amazing and one of the few memories I\'ll never forget. You could tell the site had been touched by the fans/friends just as he had reached out and touched so many through his life. Shannon definitely had a impact on me and when heaven arrives I pray he will be there ready to sing us all a song.
