go ahead and laugh and make fun, but American Idol is having a spinoff show for bands. They want dvd\'s etc sent in for casting now. you want exposure, here\'s your chance. now, i would never say that they\'d go all the way, or even that damn far - not nearly mainstream enough - but it can\'t hurt to try, ya know? what\'s the worst that can happen? one dvd mailed off and no response. big whoop. but can you imagine what a judge would say about animal\'s drumming? timmy\'s dexterous fingers?! ronnie\'s overly verbose stage prescence and thunderous funk?!! intension, surreal radio, a shortish psygn, mayfly, d5, sundance, see the light, hard luck harry, gladys, good things, wild pack.... there are plenty of widely accessible, non-silly lyrics, mature tunes in the catalogue, after all....

Now who is gonna put in THIS much effort to for a submission though? Management? (insert sarcasm tags) I do like this idea though.

Edit: Upon further review, seems they wouldn\'t be eligible unless they terminated all contracts (if any?). Though:

Each week, the bands will be challenged with varied musical themes, jazzing up each of the performance shows as their skills in a wide spectrum of musical styles are put to the test along with their personal and professional relationships.

Wouldn\'t even be a good competition for the other groups based on that weekly rundown of what the competition would be looking for.

I was actually talking with Todd about this the other day - the promo didn\'t mention whether or not the band had to be unsigned, just said "undiscovered."  ...Hmm, now, which live DVD would be best to send in? :chin:

I read the \'eligible\' link I posted (a PDF), and you are not eligible if signed. And we can\'t just send in a DVD, you need to each band member to fill out an individual application and release. Basically, they need to fire Phil, cut ties with Crescendo, and cut ties with HMG. Alas, not likely to happen. Oh well.

I\'ll tell you EXACTLY what the judged would say: you need a stronger singer.

This casting call went out a while ago. It\'s a terrible thing for a band. Just read the fine print in the contract that you agree to when you send in your content.

Quote
If your band advances to the finalist round of the competition, each member must be able to demonstrate that he/she does not have (either alone or as a member of a group) a contract for talent representation (for example, a talent agent or manager), a music recording contract, a merchandising agreement, or any other contractual arrangement that would prohibit you, or any member of your band, from entering into a management contract, recording contract, talent contract and/or merchandising contract.

Bottom line is that you loose everything and 19 owns everything. 19 Ent. is a UK company that was founded by Simon Fuller, but now owned by Robert Sillerman.

The upside is that you become a Sony BMG recording artist and the Old Man becomes your new best friend.
