So when watching the Porter\'s DVD I was TOTALLY thrown off by Vera St. It is before the added lyrics and it is really awkward to hear. Tim was Brilliant to add those verses.
Also LDZ Fast or Slow? I absolutely LOVE the 10/9/04 Version of LDZ its so mellow compared to the LDZ on the Porter\'s DVD which is played normally or fast. I think I prefer slower versions of LDZ.
I would like to see more not all but more local Breakfast shows be coverfree. No you cheap bastards not free admission. ALL BREAKFAST. Their Originals are AWESOME. I understand playing covers for new crowds and bars but local shows usually have a low amt of new fans so why bother playing covers?
How abt a segue free show? Ok an all segue show I mean ALL Segue even leave a loop running @ setbreak and p/u from there 2nd set and keep going ahhhhh
ok enuff rambling
OH and could Mooboo\'s quite possibly be the best song ever written? hmmmmmm
a cover or two every show is no big deal to me, all jambands do it anyways, and some of them(In the Flesh, Hush, etc.) are the
****. I can do w/o most Dead or Doors covers though.
I think seeing them do Dead songs is good because the average newbie is so familliar with the song that they can recognize how good The Breakfast is doing the song. They do Help/Slipknot and Scarlet so good that it would be hard not to see it, but I don\'t get paid to think.
I just don\'t like hearing from a new fan who is just seeing them for the first time and their only thoughts on the show are \'they did a great scarlet begonias(or LA Woman). Call me crazy, but I just find it a little disheartening, esp when they got songs like Rufus, Mooboos or Hardluck Harry in the setlist, and I wanna hear them say \'what was that song they closed the show w/, it was badass\' or something along those lines.

ditto..esp. w/ shakedown st.
on the other hand, i do like seeing the breakfast shows with no covers
I hear you. You want the people to recognize how good they are in and amongst themselves. Either way is good, as long as the people come out and support the band. They are plenty good enough with their own material.
ep2(mooboos voodoo)=the best tune of all frickin time, confirmed
I dunno, I think covers are a vital part to a jam band. Most people get into a band because they hear a real good cover and realize how good these guys are!!
I mean the first time I heard breakfast play YEM they blew phish out of the water.......and thats the moment I realized, these guys are incredible!!! so covers are good, not all of them and not all the time but they should always keep a few on reserve.
the right cover at the right time is ideal..
They need some new covers STAT, they also need some new originals so they can put some dogs to sleep (phaddy, VT song plus many others)...
they also need to stop playing 75% of real radio every frickin show.
On the contrary, they need to play more and more Real Radio, they just need to cut Fresh Cut completly.... I\'m probably just saying this because I haven\'t seen them in a year, I\'m sure I\'d be sick of the RR material if I saw them as much as everyone else.
they also need to stop playing 75% of real radio every frickin show.
i agree. as important as it is to promote the new album, they should play some more of their older stuff. there are such great songs that you don\'t hear often (not that they should be played out) like see the light, garcian..etc
they also need to stop playing 75% of real radio every frickin show.
haha i completely agree - but have patience freddie, that will die down with time -- they are still having CD release parties for real radio, so they sorta have to keep playing tunes from the album they\'re promoting...
as far as cover songs go, i think its great that they can cover such a wide range of songs/artists - i really feel as though they don\'t adapt their style to the cover song they\'re playing, but rather, they modify the songs to their style, which takes so much talent...its a great thing to watch/hear...
...i could do without as many cover songs, however... i can imagine on the road though, in places where people aren\'t familiar with your originals, you need some cover songs here and there to keep the energy up, maybe..??
