Even for a little while.
I for one am a fan of this song, as goofy as it is. For most of 2005, it was a monster. And I remember a few months ago some .infoers talking about how they were not a fan of the actual song but the jam was what made it worth the while. And that once the jam become flat, dull or not impressive the song was going back on the
**** list. Now, 2005 was definitely full of some great jams in Beef Barley and plenty of good times.
Last night, Bezerker asked me how I felt about Beef Barley on the shelf (Disclaimer: It is by NO MEANS SHELVED). Gencs, Bezerker and I discussed it for a brief moment and kinda came to the conclusion that the air was let out of the balloon (Barley became flat) on NYE that was the monster jams and well executed playing on Barley.
I wonder how other people feel about the actual tune.
Discuss.
hell yeah. i mean, the jam in it is usually good, but i hear it at basically every show i go to. a band w/ as many songs as they do has no need for that, especially if it isn\'t a new song or anything.
yes. jams are good...composed section is corny as
**** hell and gets very old hearing it at every show.
it has been very strong lately IMO. i like it!
suprisingly i think i\'m going with yes....but just for a lil while, like until they go on a tour outside of new england, lets say. i mean i happen to be a big fan of the tune, cornyness and all, plus the jams have been almost always tight as
**** over the last year, but i wasn\'t totally feeling it at the last two shows i saw (nye & middle east). Its a great jam usually b/c its got that groove funk thing going on with various rhcp/pfunk teases all over the place, which i really love but i agree that it has sorta deflated as of late. I think a lil time off will help bring this tune back to life.
WTF? R U SER? No way. If I do not get a Beef Barley out here because of this. I\'m gonna get REAL pissed and I\'ll be gunning for ya Spacey!
I voted "another useless post", just as a protest vote. Personal feelings about the tune aside, "Beef Barley" shouldn\'t be shelved for two reasons:
1. It\'s a song that newbs can latch onto (see: Phaddy Boom
****-Break)
2. The beginning, middle, and end all segue well
But my personal feeling is that "Beef Barley" shouldn\'t be SHELVED, but should be played less. I feel like it comes up when the band doesn\'t know exactly what to play (especially when it is a set opener). As far as the jam being a monster, that just comes with the territory of it being a Breakfast tune. Any song the Breakfast wanted to have a monster jam would have a monster jam by now if played with regularity since 10/30/1999. If there is an applicable replacement (see: Honeybutter) the song can definitely be played less frequently, though not shelved. Speaking as one who sees The Breakfast about once a month (average), I wouldn\'t mind seeing it every four shows or so.

Hey man I never said I was coming for you.lol
If they are on the road keep it in rotation. It is definitely an easy tune for newcomers to latch onto and works in setlists in a lot of different ways.
If the band is in home territory play it less. The song benefits from freshness.
Should we really be doing or saying anything that might stifle the art and artistry that is The Breakfast ?
If the band wants to wrap that tune around something, chop it up. play it for 45 minutes, fart the intro etc if it is new and they think it has merit than I open to at least hear it
I would agree with the fact it should be played less. I would have to say I see that song more than any other. I remember one time thinking that if i went to a show that they did not play it. That particular show seem to stand out more.
Although there is alot of merit in what was said about it being played on tour it would have to be in the rotation.
Beef barley........A very good song jam has been out of control! I do know my wife would be pissed she loves the song to death, I also see the band more than her. So it should not be shelved but just play it less.
yes... I\'m sick of it. WAY overplayed.
The song itself is weak. I mean it was fun for awhile. I mean how can a Chris Farley tribute song NOT be fun, but it\'s lost its edge. However the jam is my favorite showcase for Ron to show off his chops, especially when he gets in Bootsy mode. If there was maybe a way they could leave out a verse or two and jump right to the jam, I\'d be pretty content.
However I feel that VT Song should be killed, buried 6 feet under and that Kote should come back in full force. I dont care if Kote was written for a friend of the band and carries a goofy stigma, musically it transcends serness, reproducing itself as a lovechild by RHCP and Steely Dan. BRING KOTE BACK!!!!
