it\'s an ok cd, no tin cans or no doy
does BJP sound at all like phish\'s "walfredo" at times to anybody else
tailspin is my fav so far on the album
-
Finally got my copy of High and Congress and the Conch today, in the midst of my first listen through now and am really enjoying it.
-
has anyone heard u-melt\'s "the i\'s mind"? I saw them last night at the good ol\' northstar and bought the album. it is incredible! it is non-stop mind oozing goodness that is very well worth a few listens. how does this relate to the conch? i don\'t know but I didn\'t want to start a thread. anyhoo, give this album a try. i think you all would enjoy it
I am not a fan of U-Melt, I think their live show is very weak, I have not heard any of their studio albums though.

^^^written by an umphrey\'s fan. a band that at one point, looked up to moe. so much, that they\'d even cover a song of theirs. hard to knock moe.\'s originality if you\'re the um fan.
and that tsunami benefit show was overrated. 4th best moe. show of that weekend alone.
a) im not looking to get in an argument over any of this because its purely subjective so please don\'t start hinting at anyones false knowledge
b) every band at one point looks up to certain bands. i can say as a breakfast fan, there are few bands that the breakfast has covered or that tim has played that i never or will never like, that doesn\'t mean that the band itself is not original nor that it is odd for me to enjoy the music of the band that covers them. UM covered rebubala when they were a completely different band in 98, with a different drummer and one less guitar player (main influence behind the bands music today).
c)i completely disagree when you say its hard to knock moes talent when i listen to UM. UM, in my opinion ofcourse, is extrememly more original than moe ever has been. Just because they are friendly with and used to cover a moe. tune doesn\'t really mean it comes through their music. Personally i think Umphrey\'s is the best thing to happen to music in a while and that they are incredibly original in a songwriting sense and improvising sense. its completely different than the organic jamming feel of a band like breakfast or moe but its still something i love to see and hear.
d) i loved the tsunami show, i haven\'t seen that many moe shows but it was one of my favorite concert experiences of all time. i thought the sit ins were great and i loved the set list.
long thread i know, sorry

Looks like I\'ll be pickin\' it up this week. :) Just found out the show here in Chicago at the Park West is sold out. ****!

The heart of moe. is in their songwriting and this album shows that on point. I am an avid moe. fan and I realize that they clearly are better live, but they manage to capture so much soul through keeping the album relatively simple. It gives us something more to expect live while giving us the perfect template for what they will do live. Track 12 "where does the time go?" has grown on me almost to the point where it is going to be my favorite song for at least 3 months. I highly look forward to Rob busting out the upright bass in Philly in 2 weeks, as he did in denver for lazuras, and meat, played with a bow... Change can be good
Oh and The Pit farkin\' rox!
-
I have seen moe. twice and have Meat, No Doy, Tin Cans... as well as L and Live at the Aragon 11/1/03, which I was at. How does Conch stack up against the earlier studio albums? We all know they can jam, but their studio efforts are more about writing songs than jamming (with some exceptions).

7. Summer O I (the old way)
no. make your own album, don\'t **** up mine.

I\'m listening to the album now, and i can see why there\'s mixed reviews. BJP, She and LATW didn\'t do much for me studio wise, but Tailspin, the Pit, Down Boy and Wind it Up are a lot better, especially WIU which is a song I\'m not particularly in love w/ normally.
I was kinda anti the entire album before it even came it. one, it should\'ve been released about a year earlier, and two they left off several key songs that\'ve made it much better imo. of all the recent moe. tunes, i think they could\'ve made a completely different album using all the songs that were left off this and I\'d have been all for that.
what Igzy wishes the Conch was:
1. McBain- phatty jam, what moe. is all about
2. Lazarus- recently redone and breathed new life to, also \'nother solid jam
3. Wicked Awesome- short al. rocker, just the way i like \'em
4. Biblical Proportions- a good change of pace, better than the other Rob songs showcased on the album.
5. Good Trip- short, sweet, seems harmless, but when played right can be tripped the **** out.
6. George- McBain\'s little brother, also a good jam.
those 6 songs alone could\'ve been a sick jammed out album, but thats not what they\'re going for unfortunately.

i have listened to every moe album and ive seen them a couple of times. aside from their tsunami benefir show in nyc with guets like trey medeski sam bush and others, i never really thought much of them. every studio album has its one or two redeemable songs in my opinion but as a whole they just do not interest me personally.
i feel like they try to hard to have a certain sound and it just doesn\'t sound natural or even remotely original. i find all their music is relatively predictable and the same goes for the new album. just not really a fan of it.
that being said, i think wormwood is a great album and has a great flow/feel to it. i dont know, i guess they just bore me, i would take a breakfast show any day of the week over moe.

picked it up on the way home today. Circiut city, you suck. No moe at all. Best buy, you suck almost as bad. 1 copy of conch and 1 copy of w&a4. :wtf2:

i got the album this afternoon and think its pretty good thru the first time. i look forward to getting to know it

I\'m not a moe. fan either.
But there are many things I respect about the band.
For example, they are not Tea Leaf Green.

and no other band can be.
However moe. realizes the potential in TLG musically/lyrically and in the ability to draw crowds to have them @ different moe. fests and to have them open for them.
Come ON Jocelyn ya had to know I was gonna chime in after that post.

mullets are funny!

I think moe. does a great job of appealing to a wide and diverse audience even if they are seen as the epitome of jambands by many.
I concur.
-
everything has to go through topper. sorry buddy.
however, if we were to ever be at a party, or to carpool somewhere and I happened to have some music in the car, we could always listen to it...
-
igzy, do you have high and whatever suppliment disc? I didn\'t pre order so I don\'t have it.
no, i didn\'t pre order either
if i had a signed permission slip from a member of the band, would that make your decision easier for you? i just wanna know what system i have to go thru in order to gain access to such goods. being the selfish moe.ron i am, i\'d totally keep it all to myself instead of spreading it around. there\'s no fun in sharing.
-

Technically, I have the soundboards and audience mics to the entire weekend, but those are straight feeds. I want to hear what they did with mixing.
yea, I would but sorry I can\'t. If moe ever changes there mind, you and wook will be the first to know.

Yeah the couple friends I have shown it to dug it. I think moe. does a great job of appealing to a wide and diverse audience even if they are seen as the epitome of jambands by many.

Well from the standpoint of being pretty much a newb to moe. I think the dvd does them justice in that it shows moe. being moe. and it IS from \'05 which for me was a time when they were on fire quite often. Well at least that\'s when I actually "got it" finally.
glad you enjoy. thats good to know that non-diehard moe. fans enjoy the DVD cuz thats really what matters most. if they were trying to impress people like me, then they\'d be working too hard too often.

the DVD is good. I don\'t own it, Jenny does, she was at the show, and is in pretty much all the footage of when they show the crowd. its good don\'t get me wrong, but the show itself was average for moe. Since it took them so long to finally release a DVD and it seems like they have no plans of releasing another any time soon, I just wish they\'d have chosen a real barn burner of a show to represent them

I\'m taking it easy this tour and only hitting up Boston and snoe.down. Jenny is at Colorado right now, and will also be in Chicago, Milwaukee, Indianapolis and Cincinnati, so if any of you guys(Aruny) make it out to any of those shows, feel free to say hello to her. She\'ll show you how we get down in moe.ville. And I\'ll do ya the same if you plan on heading to Boston.

I finally got their DVD and despite the criticism I have read on PT I freakin\' love it.
Not really a studio album guy but moe. makes some of the the best studio albums in the jam scene imo.
-
just got mine today....er....yestersday
-
just came out in stores yesterday, check it out if you want. I haven\'t bought it yet myself, but it looks to be a different album for them. A lot mellower and less jammed out than most of their albums. its gotten mixed reviews so far, basically not so great reviews from jambans.com or people who are avid jamband fans, but has gotten rave reviews from Rolling Stone and more mainstream media.
