Not even a month after his "last show" announcement.
Add Trent Reznor to my list of musicians who I\'ll always listen to when they play, and completely disregard when they speak.

"Getting right to the point, we\'re going to play a handful of shows in NYC, Chicago and LA starting August 22nd. They will be informal affairs in medium to small venues with longer set-lists, possible special guests, cool openers and other surprises. Upon reflection, the NIN/JA tour felt like we had to rush through sets due to a limited allotted set length and many shows were in daylight - it just didn\'t feel right to end NIN that way. An offer to headline V-Fest in Toronto (being announced soon) set the idea in motion to play some FUN shows to end this up with. If we can get it together we\'ll film these shows, too.
In NYC we\'ll be playing Bowery Ballroom, Webster Hall and Terminal 5. In Chicago, the Aragon Ballroom. In LA we\'ll be at The Wiltern, The Henry Fonda, The Palladium and The Echoplex. These should be cool, unusual and unique shows and I hope you come out - this is it.
So far, The Horrors will be joining us for some shows in NYC, Mew will be with us at other shows in NYC, Chicago and LA, and perhaps more. Details and ticket info will be announced shortly, so check back."

and for those who haven\'t heard, the NIN/JA tour is open taping!

In an effort to allow you to document your experience at the upcoming NIN/JA performances, we will be relaxing our photo/video policy (5/7/09 - 6/12/09 only). Fans will be permitted to bring in their personal cameras, video and audio recorders. This is not not an open door policy for any and all recording devices. Please try to use common sense as we are trying to ensure this experience is great for everyone attending. Don\'t show up with a television crew and a recording studio. To be clear: this applies only to the North American NIN/JA tour.
Examples:
I have a nice SLR camera and lens and I want to shoot photos. YES. I have a high-quality camcorder and want to record video / audio. YES. I have a shoulder-mounted broadcast-quality video camera and want to shoot the show. NO. I have a flash-based audio recorder with a stereo hand-held mic and want to record the show. YES. I have a full Pro-Tools rig running off a generator and want to record the show. NO. I don\'t have any recording devices but I\'d kind of like to make out with Ilan. NO (probably).
The following guidelines will be enforced.
- Photo and video access is granted only for non-commercial private use. - Photo and video access is limited to areas permitted by type of ticket held. - NO access to barricade/photo pit. - NO shoulder mounted video equipment allowed, all cameras must be hand held. - NO equipment with a dimension longer than 20 inches (including cameras, lenses, etc.) - NO equipment bags that violate existing venue bag policies (check with venue) - NO external supports (tripods, monopods, steadicam mounts, mic stands, etc.) - NO video or audio broadcast equipment (microwave, RF, etc.) - NO external power equipment - NO lighting equipment (mounted or secondary)
WHEN IN DOUBT, LEAVE IT AT HOME.
If you plan to take advantage of this relaxed policy, we recommend that you do the following... - Carefully review your equipment to ensure it meets these specs. - Arrive early for possible security delays. - If your equipment is so expensive and/or fragile that you\'d freak out if something happened to it, leave it behind, we\'re not responsible. - Do not interfere with anyone else\'s enjoyment of the show or create a hazard.
We will do our best to make sure venue security staff is aware of our camera policy. However, there are always going to be cases where local security misunderstands and attempts to enforce a stricter camera policy. This is unfortunately one of the hazards of attempting to be considerably more open about recording than most of the concert industry. If a security guard hassles you for equipment that is allowed under our guidelines, please ask him to speak with NIN security about the matter and we will do our best to resolve it.
Audio and video recorded at NIN/JA shows is for personal use only, and cannot under any circumstances be sold or used for profit in any way.

Trent Reznor Fights Apple Over NIN iPhone App Rejection
Just weeks after Trent Reznor launched the new Nine Inch Nails iPhone application, an updated version of the app was rejected by Apple because of “objectionable content.” What did Apple find NSF-iPhone? Trent Reznor’s “The Downward Spiral.” According to Reznor, who posted on the NIN message board about his current clash with Apple, it’s not even the album The Downward Spiral, which housed the controversial “Closer,” that’s causing the problems. It’s the title song, which was only heard within the app’s podcast feature. “You can buy The Downward **** Spiral on iTunes, but you can’t allow an iPhone app that may have a song with a bad word somewhere in it,” Reznor wrote. “Come on Apple, think your policies through and for ****’s sake get your app approval scenario together.”
It’s pretty amusing that Apple finds the updated NIN application has “objectionable content” when you compare it to the Eminem’s violent Relapse iPhone game that’s in the works. Plus, you can download a new app for your iPhone called iSnort, which allows users to cut and snort digital **** on the touchscreen of their gadgets. Suddenly, The Downward Spiral doesn’t seem that offensive at all.
In happier NIN news, Reznor is reportedly engaged to his girlfriend, West Indian Girl singer Mariqueen Maandig. The news comes straight from West Indian Girl’s official band Website, who fittingly accompanied their congratulatory post with a stream of NIN’s The Fragile track “We’re In This Together.” Recently, Reznor appeared on the red carpet at the Star Trek reboot premiere holding hands with Maandig.

Nine Inch Nails to tour with Jane\'s Addiction
NEW YORK (Billboard) – Nine Inch Nails will tour later this year with the reunited Jane\'s Addiction, NIN frontman Trent Reznor wrote in a post on the band\'s Web site.
Although he stopped short of saying the band was going on something more than a hiatus, Reznor confirmed that these will be the last NIN shows for some time, and that they will be "much more raw, spontaneous and less scripted" compared with last year\'s "Lights in the Sky" tour. "It\'s time to make NIN disappear for a while," he said.
Dates have not yet been announced, but Reznor said the tour will take the bands "across the globe."
The pairing with Jane\'s Addiction was inspired by NIN\'s stint on the maiden Lollapalooza tour in 1991, which was headlined by Jane\'s. The band broke up for the first time shortly thereafter, only to reunite minus original bassist Eric Avery in 1997 and again in 2001.
"The dystopian future imagined by Trent Reznor is synergy-friendly. Some have argued that it?s cliche. The savvy Nine Inch Nails frontman tells the LA Times that he recently met with HBO about adapting the themes of his Year One concept album (and cultish alternate reality game) into an ambitious sci-fi series?
?I just pitched it to HBO two weeks ago in L.A. It went great. Ideally, we?re trying to get them to do a two-year limited series. I prefer that over a film. We would have a second ARG tying into the second album and ties into the series and they all happen together with a budget needed to pull that all off. There would be a tour down the road. The record completes the story, the ending that no one knows. I know what happens. I knew when I started it. And it?s not what people think. ?
Reznor?s anti-Bush vision takes place in 2022, or as a totes-screwed America has labeled it, Year One. The government has brainwashed its citizens, done away with civil liberties and much of the landscape is in shambles. There?s also a lot of well-designed propaganda. The idea of a feature film or a TV show was conceptualized near the beginning according to Reznor, who says that writers are already attached. According to the NY Times, producer Lawrence Bender is seeing the series through."

Nine Inch Nails is pleased to announce the expansion of the Ghosts project into the visual world. The band has teamed up with YouTube to host a "film festival" around Ghosts. The concept is for you to take whatever tracks you feel inspired by and create what you feel should accompany them visually. You will be able to see all of the submissions, and a team (including Trent) will be sorting through them and setting aside ones they feel are exceptional. Eventually (within a couple of months?) we hope to present a virtual "film festival" with Trent and some special guests presenting selections of your work.
"This isn\'t a contest and you don\'t win elaborate prizes - it\'s meant to be an experiment in collaboration and a chance for us to interact beyond the typical one-way artist-to-fan relationship. We\'ve discussed some interesting ways this could go, including multiple installments of the online "film festivals," to broadcast TV specials, to a one-time live performance of the entire Ghosts record with your visuals involved. It really depends on how this progresses and develops.
We are all very much looking forward to what you come up with, and hope you enjoy the experience. Visit http://www.youtube.com/ninofficial for information on how to participate".

NINE INCH NAILS: Y34RZ3R0R3M1X3D
YEAR ZERO ALBUM REMIXED: STEPHEN MORRIS, BILL LASWELL, KRONOS QUARTET, SAUL WILLIAMS, OLOF DREIJER, THE FAINT AND MORE
REMIX IT YOURSELF: EVERY MASTER MULTI-TRACK MADE AVAILABLE
"I\'m very pleased with the way it turned out," says Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails\' Y34RZ3R0R3M1X3D (Interscope Records). "Remix records can be disposable garbage (of which I myself have been guilty to some extent) but this collection feels good to me."
Spun off from Year Zero, the #2-charting album issued in the spring, Y34RZ3R0R3M1X3D features a stunning diversity of remixers, from Joy Division and New Order\'s Stephen Morris to classical crossover pioneer Kronos Quartet and hip-hop poet Saul Williams; from avant-garde leader Bill Laswell, electronica\'s Olof Dreijer from The Knife, Interpol drummer Sam Fogarino and post-punk revivalists The Faint to an unknown fan who submitted a remix via the Internet.
"I reached out to heroes, friends and strangers," says Reznor. "I encouraged those I approached to do anything and insert themselves as much as possible into the track. Some of the stuff that was done earlier led me to choosing other people to balance things out. The Pirate Robot Midget mix is a fan\'s work--I thought it was great, it filled a need and I asked permission to use it here. It\'s always interesting for me to hear my work reinterpreted--I hope it is for you as well."
In fact, purchasers can even reinterpret and remix Year Zero themselves. The CD package for Y34RZ3R0R3M1X3D includes a DVD-ROM containing every track from Year Zero in multi-track format (Mac and PC). Perhaps for the first time, the master multi-tracks for every recording on a major album are being made available to the public. The tracks are pre-formatted for Apple GarageBand and Ableton Live (Mac or PC); the DVD-ROM also adds the demo version of Ableton Live (Mac or PC) and generic WAVE files at 16 bit 44K that can be loaded into any audio editor.
A special Web site, remix.nin.com, will debut upon Y34RZ3R0R3M1X3D\'s release date. Says Reznor,"Remixes and fun encouraged."

Title: Nine Inch Nails is a free agent!
Post by: davepeck on October 08, 2007, 08:36:28 pm
from pitchforkmedia:
Reznor Hammers Another Nail in the Industry\'s Coffin
For the second time in a little over a week, a major player on the alt-rock scene has announced their departure from the mainstream music industry, as Trent Reznor announced today via the Nine Inch Nails website that he is no longer signed to longtime label Interscope, and may perhaps be choosing to go it alone:
"Hello everyone. I\'ve waited a LONG time to be able to make the following announcement: as of right now Nine Inch Nails is a totally free agent, free of any recording contract with any label. I have been under recording contracts for 18 years and have watched the business radically mutate from one thing to something inherently very different and it gives me great pleasure to be able to finally have a direct relationship with the audience as I see fit and appropriate.
Look for some announcements in the near future regarding 2008.
Exciting times, indeed."

somewhat damaged is def ser. 9/4 is so damn heavy. TOO **** UP TO CARE ANYMORE!!! Totally the old school NIN I grew up on. I don\'t know which instrumental you are thinking of, there are pilgrimage, just like you imagined, the mark has been made, complications, and ripe with decay. Probably complications.
Don\'t get me wrong, there are several great songs on fragile, it just was a let down as a double album, especially after waiting that long with nothing except the perfect drug as new material.
my top fragile songs: somewhat damaged the wretched were in this together no, you don\'t La Mer Into the void  starfuckers complications

Somewhat Damaged = the last great old school style NIN tune. Whats the name of that one instrumental on the Fragile as well? whatever it is, it kicks ass in a live setting. those two songs alone make that album worthwhile for me.

nah, in order of kick ass-ness (full albums only, no remixes like fixed or further down, so some halos are missing)
1. pretty hate machine  2. downward spiral 3. broken 4. with teeth 5. rusty nails (best boot ever) 6. the fragile
?. year zero *
*I can\'t place this yet because I have not listened to it enough
also, what are halos 19-23? Anyone have them? Probably just more singles but I\'d like to complete my collection.

NINE INCH NAILS has set "Year Zero" as the title of its new album, which is due out in April and follows up 2005\'s "With Teeth". "It could be about the end of the world," the band\'s mastermind Trent Reznor wrote on the official NIN fan club web site The Spiral.
In a recent interview with England\'s Kerrang! magazine, Reznor described the upcoming album\'s as "a collage of sound type of thing, not heavy in a metal guitar kind of way." He added, "With this record I feel a lot less concerned about what people think about it ? especially the dying record industry. I couldn\'t care less about that right now." Reznor also revealed that the new effort is a concept album and "part of a bigger picture of a number of things I\'m working on. Essentially I wrote the soundtrack to a movie that doesn\'t exist."
Reznor said that most of the album was recorded "in hotel rooms around the world on laptops," with very few musicians beside himself and "maybe some surprise vocalists that pop up here and there."
When asked why the new record took less than two years to arrive when the last one took six, Reznor said, "I\'m probably as surprised as some fans are (laughs). But really it\'s just a matter of discipline. When I was on the last tour, to keep myself busy I was just really hunkered down and was working on music the whole time, so this kept me in a creative mode and when I finished the tour I felt like I wasn\'t tired and wanted to keep at it."
