yup. He\'s kind of forgotten about as a president, but I would rather have him than agnew. The only thing I could think of was the chevy chgase xmas at the white house and the simpsons episode with him and gw1.

is it bad that the only thing I could think of when I heard about this was the old SNL skit with "Tom Brokaw" going on vacation so he had to read a whole bunch of "possible news stories" and they were all about Ford dying in odd ways.

The only man never elected to either vice president or president who served both has passed away. Most people don\'t know too much about Fords politics so here\'s a crash course so you can act smart:
*Republican
*vice president for 1 year 1973-8/9/1974 under Nixon
*Became president on Nixon’s resignation, 1974-1977. Gave full pardon to Nixon.
*Upon becoming president he stated "I am acutely aware that you have not elected me as your President by your ballots, and so I ask you to confirm me as your President with your prayers."
*Gave conditional pardons to "draft dodgers" who had left the country. Unconditional pardons did not come in until then Carter administration
*Offered to have Homer over to watch the football game, drink a few beers and eat some nachos
*Oldest living president at time of death
*Appointed Donald Rumsfeld as Secretary of Defense in 1975
*Yet another Yale produced president (not a skull and bones member)
*President during the bicentennial year of 1976
*Negotiated the signing over of the Panama Canal to panama which took place on 12/31/99
*Appointed the Warren commission (first in-depth investigation into JFK assassination)
*Withdrew our troops from Vietnam, 4/30/75 we evacuated the American embassy in Saigon by helicopter, one of the most famous images of the end of the war
*1976 election had to win the republican nomination, barley beating out California governor Ronald Regan. Lost to democrat Jimmy Carter.
