I\'m totally envisioning a scenario where this thread gets parlayed into weekly or monthly power rankings.  We need a BCS-style ranking system for the top 20 Breakfast tunes every week.  There should be a fans poll (a la the AP poll), a band staff poll (a la the coaches\' poll) and some sort of insane computer formula that factors in the polls, number of plays, length of plays, set opening and closing and encore, what songs surrounded it, how many people were at the shows it was played at etc.  Your humble Breakfast Statistician :) is totally capable of coming up with this formula.  Stay tuned...

Well Stevie after Saturday night\'s performance of Taboo and Intension, I would have to agree. I have never seen Taboo torched and scorched like that. I was kind of meh on Intension, but as an encore I thought it ripped hard and now it\'s 2 days later and I still can\'t get it out of my head.

Damn, it makes me wish they played Love Lake!!!!

I <3 love lake. Im so happy they brought it back. Whenever they play it, it seems like everyone in the venue gets down with their bad selves. Thanks to Stevie for getting them to play it all the time :)

Gencs, I know you said L&TG > Overexposure isn\'t "mature" enough yet, but when the title of your thread is "The 3 Hottest Breakfast Songs Currently," I\'d say that L&TG > OE most definitely falls into that category. Yes, it\'s still a young\'un, but that **** has been on fire starting this summer.

Also don\'t forget The Late And Great\'s coinciding comeback.  Never saw that coming in a million years.

For their next trick, we need Kote to be the intro to Eppy IV.

I don\'t believe I ever got the official explanation on the shelving of Kote.  From what I recall, it has something to do with the lyrics??

Would be a great song for the trio, as I don\'t recall what Jordan\'s role was in that one.  I think Spears is ready to thump out a Kote.

The miraculousness of Love Lake\'s comeback needs to be restated.  This is a song that was completely shelved for over 3 years.  It was a staple from 98-01 when the band only had 2 nights\' worth of originals.  But as soon as they had enough material to shelve some songs, it was the first one on the shelf.  It stayed there for over half of the band\'s existence.  Now it\'s back in rotation and they\'ve figured out how to use it effectively.  This is currently the biggest song comeback in Breakfast history.  It looked like Garcian might make a run for a couple of months but that fizzled out quickly.  Also don\'t forget The Late And Great\'s coinciding comeback.  Only five total plays from 01-03 followed by 3 years collecting dust.  Now it\'s on an album and hooked up to the amazing Overexposure.  Never saw that coming in a million years.  For their next trick, we need Kote to be the intro to Eppy IV.

well said, gencs! if everyone knew all their songs, then there\'s no way they should replay them night after night. they have the catalog of tunes not to, after all. BUT since they\'re still building the fan base, they *have* to replay some tunes, especially the hottest ones at the time. look at any band\'s older setlists, its the same thing, how many of your 90-91 phish tapes have soam, or lizards, or jim or mike\'s groove... yep, most of them. same reason, different band...

i say listen to the gencs, he knows things and stuff!

and i, too, will take three new trio songs over a mooboo\'s. if just to hear what the new songs will sound like!

but i still want a mooboo>machine gun>voodoo sammy!!!

Josh, thanks for hitting on the point of my post.  I was wondering when someone was going to get to it.....

Ummmm.... didn\'t you just disagree with me in detail?? :P

I see your point though --- In terms of getting new fans to recognize songs and get down with the band and all.  But one thing I have always said about Breakfast is that you never know what style / songs you\'re gonna get on a given night. Seems like the shows I\'ve hit lately have been heavy on a few new songs and sparse on my favorite blasts from the past...

but I also understand its New Album Touring season and that\'s how it goes. I felt the same way on the Real Radio tour and most likely whined about it then as well

I\'m lookin forward to a seriously heady winter... hopefully with Eppy2 back in the rotation (its my favorite breakfast song dangit!)

Intension = good song but way overplayed (almost every show?? or is it every show??)

Josh, thanks for hitting on the point of my post.  I was wondering when someone was going to get to it.....I dont understand why people think that if a song gets played in more than one consecutive show that it is overkill.  If it is working and getting people into the show, why say "lets not play this tune because we played it last night, or the last 2 nights".  To me you are just cutting off your nose to spite your face.....

Not to mention that the jams are never really the same each time, so its really not like playing the same song every night.  Intension gets people into the show and they jam the **** out of it, sometimes taking longer spacey exploratory jams.

Plus I thought it was good to start getting people familiar with your songs.  I am not talking about the 60 or so rabid Breakfast fans on this board, but someone who may hit one NYC show one month and then another NYC show the next month, with maybe a Providence show following the second NYC show.  Say they hear Intension or Love Lake at the first show, it it was their highlight of the show.  Now, the following month, they hit up NYC again, and instead of hearing a Love Lake 1st set opener and Intension in mid-second set, at the second NYC show they get a Intension 1st set closer and a Love Lake encore, they may actually recognize the tunes and grow faster as a fan of the band and whatnot......

I just think that you don\'t **** with a streak.  If songs are obviously being well received by crowds, why not play because you just played them last night or the last time you were at this venue........

And regarding Episode 2 (Mooboo\'s Voodoo), the band is going to play it when they are ready to play it.  I am sure that we will all get our Eppy2 in its due time....Personally I would rather hear 3 brand new songs than one epic Eppy2 at this point in time.....

i think m00b00\'s should stay shelved until they can pull off m00b00\'s>machine gun>v00d00.

doesn\'t have to be all of machine gun (probably shouldn\'t be all of it, out of respect and fear of sacriledge to the world\'s greatest song), but a verse or so, and catching that groove.... perfect fit, i tell ya!

Yeah man Overexposure especially is where the heat is building... Iron Horse version really stepped it up and the Higher Ground was groovy too. I wonder if they will ever seperate this from TheLateAndTheGreat, because IMO Overexposure is a way better tune and TL+TG has been almost the same every time I\'ve seen it.

LoveLake always puts a smile on my face even if I was in a bad mood before because the venue wouldn\'t let me go outside to smoke ganja....... :P

Intension = good song but way overplayed (almost every show?? or is it every show??)

......

but the real hottest Breakfast song is EPPY2(motherlovin\' Voodoo!) whenever they feel like playing their best song ever again that would be pretty cool, eh?

Adrian wanted to open the Freakout w/ OE but thought it was still to soon to seperate the 2 songs. So yeah it\'s coming.
LatG is an incredible song. The catch of the song is the heavy repetition and the cathartic release in the jam/end verse. That is probably why it hardly varies in performances to you.

I told everyone I could that Intension was soo good that i did not mind if I heard it every show the last time I saw them in Oct.

When Mooboo\'s comes back I\'ll be very interested in how they arrange it.

i am not saying that late>over is "not as good" as the songs I mentioned, I am just saying that those are the HOT ones right now.  Of course Late>Over is an epic tune, but like a fine batch of whisky, it needs to age and mature before it reaches its full potential......however the fact that it is what it is now, truly scares me for when it comes out of its proverbial shell.....

i gotta agree with Kate. the late in the great>Over at the iron horse was epic. then seeing it again at higher ground....forget about it. i was standing right in front of Adrian for all of Over, and he completely owned my face. sickest **** i\'ve seen him do except for maybe drum solos. oh and playing on kegs, step latters etc. at TKA. The great thing about L&tG>Over is that it starts out slow and just rages harder and harder until you think your gonna have a heart attack.

taboo = just plain classic.  the inverted Taboo from Troy last year is just a touch of what they could really do w/ this song.

recent merges have really kicked me arse as well, but it doesn\'t have quite the rotation as the other 3 you mentioned.

Ooooh sorry chiper............I would have to disagree with you there....Late>Over will undoubtably be one of the most amazing and epic breakfast tune(s) ever crafted, however Late>Over is just a bun in the oven at this point.......still in its first trimester of incubation....

Well having had the great fortune to be at every Breakfast show since April 25th of this year, I would have to say that currently the 3 hottest songs they have been playing in that run would have to be Intension, Love Lake, and Taboo Or Not Taboot.

Since it\'s inception Intension has been growing and developing.  What this song has already become is an insane hard rocker with exploratory jam potential that sprouts a new sick ass jam every time.  I look forward to watching this one keep on growing exponentally until they have to stop playing it because too many people are getting hurt when they go for it.

As for Love Lake, I first must say that I was never a real fan of this song.  However in the past couple of months this song has matured and now posseses a unique grassy sort of rocking jam that gets and keeps a crowd moving.  The more this song gets played and the more people start recognizing it at shows, you will see and hear places that Love Lake was written to take you

Taboo Or Not Taboot.  They just plain shook asses all over the country with this one.  Hopefully it shall become one of the new ser Breakfast sandwich tunes.  Not sure what the wich would/could contain, but if it happens its gonna get fuckin funkier than ever.

I have to give an honorable mention to Buquebus.  I for a while (sometime between 1st Tournament of Tunes and this past April) I though that maybe this song was just getting to stale and repetative.  In the past 6 months or so, I would have to say that I was 100% completely wrong.  This song is basically the Breakfast anthem and will continue to grow and own faces as the shows go on.  I really really hope to see/hear the Buquebus from The Loft in Tempe soon.  To me it still reigns supreme (even over the last Stone Church \'Queeb)

I hope to keep seeing these songs in setlist upon setlist as right now they are owning the entire catalogue.

Oh and a quick mention of covers....I have four simple words......Welcome To This World....
