$1,291.25 is the total amount of $ thats listed as being donated to .info on the donations page.

vbulletin costs $160.00
$30.00 for renewals after the 1st year

domain registrations cost no more than $40/2 years even less depending on where you register them

so that leaves roughly $800 or more that isn\'t accounted for

Not to mention the small amounts of $ that the powerball donations have made.

This site also has way too many advertisements on it and I am sure that those clicks also generate $.

So I will ask again what is the $ being spent on ?

Mastiff food!  ;)

Title: I am the #1 donor and I have never even seen the band live
Post by: macfawlty on November 03, 2006, 04:55:33 pm
Why is that?? Wellllll, the reason I haven\'t seen the band live is that they haven\'t been to DC where I live (in the MD suburbs to be more precise). They have played opening acts in Baltimore but unfortunately, I have been out of town when they came. And when they did the Camp Out in Virginia this July \'06, I was at FloydFest.

Now, as to why I am the #1 donor I can say that it is to thank the band and their entourage, especially Dave Peck for putting so many of their shows on the Live Music Archive where I first discovered the band during while mining the site for great music. I have downloaded well over 100 shows so my current donation level of $142 seems like a small price to pay considering the generosity of all those involved.

I don\'t really care what the money is used for really. If you want to buy a half-ounce of kind bud, you go ahead. But I could probably guess it wouldn\'t last long with all of the freeloading stoners that hang out with the band. So... the least you could do is to pass that bowl around a little more often.

I may also add that Dave is someone I have always identified as going out of his way to do nice things for others.  How about those kick ass parties he has thrown?

Before the Archive, my live Breakfast cd collection began with Dave Peck.  One night I showed up to a show (around 2001) and Dave hands me a collection of 20+ cds, without me even asking for them.

On the other side, I thank everyone involved for giving me something to read when I\'m bored at work. I\'ve helped dave with some of the grunt work on the site in the past, and there is alot he is doing that you don\'t see. I didn\'t realise that the hosting was free, but if that\'s the case then Kindm\'s deserves just as much thanks because that is a ton of $$ over time he is saving dave.

dave, don\'t sweat it.  i get hated on religiously on pt moe., but that don\'t bother me none.  anyone who knows ya knows you are a stand up and all around great guy and the last thing on your mind is profitting off us.  **** the hours you spend putting shows up on archive as soon as possible is enough to justify you doing whatever the hell you please with whatever donations you get in my opinion.  at least you\'re not begging for donations to get your album finished on a completely different band\'s message board.

In addition to the upgrades/maintenance/improvements over the years, I\'m pretty certain Dave dropped some bucks to get the site up-and-running a few years back.

Seriously, all the laughter, socializing, discussions, and wealth of music (and other) trivia I\'ve learned over the years on here is priceless.

Dave, thanks for everything!

I think its safe to say nobody posting here is going hungry due to their donations. I mean, personally this site is worth a lot more to me than the measley 25 bux I\'ve donated, and I took a while to get around to even pitching in at all.

I wouldn\'t care one way or the other if Dave happens to make a dollar or two off the donations, he\'s obviously not in it for the money. This forum definitely enhances my overall Breakfast-experience, gettin shows, keeping in touch with people, shooting the ****, having somewhere to waste my time on the internet, I\'d be a grumpy w00k without it!

And thanks for hosting Mike, it\'s a good thing the community has people with the resources and willingness to hook-it-up for the greater good.

I was planning on making another wimpy donation but I\'m kinda strapped on cash this week and wanna make sure I have enough money to buy expensive drinks in Northampton tomorrow... treat yourself to some nice bling with this next one Dave ;)

i don\'t charge for my time. actually, i don\'t charge for anything.

the site and everything on it is completely free for anyone to use. there is no fee involved for anyone to use any part of the site. no one has ever been forced to pay anything. donations are completely optional.

i don\'t know what your intentions are here, mike.. if you had all these questions, i don\'t know why you wouldn\'t just IM me and ask me. i\'m not sure what brought this all on, but i\'ve thanked you for what YOU do countless times in public and in private, as well as offering you money. i don\'t know what you want me to do.

i can tell you that this will be my last post on the subject, because the more i look at and think about this thread, the more sick to my stomach i get. it hurts like **** to come on here and see my intentions with this site in question, not to mention that you\'re about the last person i\'d expect to see such a thing from, mike. talk about taking the wind out of someone\'s sails...

i provided you with some details above, so if you still feel the need to audit me, then you do what you have to do. but the day i come on here and make an itemized list of every dime i\'ve ever spent on this site because someone doesn\'t believe me, is the day i say goodbye to thebreakfast.info.

i\'ve said all i have to say on the topic. i will not be responding to this thread again.

...and to the people i addressed in the first post of this thread, allow me to add an apology to my \'thanks\'.

My intentions were never to hurt. I honestly should have asked u in a PM and you are correct about that. I have had reservations about the issue for a while and should have been bigger about it.

wow.. thanks for the callout, mike..

anyways, there\'s more than vbulletin running on this site, and it\'s hardly a barebones version of vB at that. there are many hacks installed, some of which cost money for a license and extra for support/renewals. there\'s photopost and vbportal as well, both of which (like vbulletin) have standard license fees, as well as yearly renewal and support fees.

the powerball donations? < $50 total.

the ads? < $30 for the year so far.

oh, and by the way, there\'s some weeks where i spend more time working on .info than i do working at my job.

but hey, if you really like math, i\'ll help you out with the equation:

- add up all the software licenses, renewal, and support fees.
- add up all the fees associated with domain names, and what i paid for hosting back in the day..
- add up all the time that i\'ve spent working on the site..
- then take your $1291.25 in donations, and hell, add a GENEROUS $100 for ad revenue...
- then divide all that by the 3.5 years that this site has been up, and you\'ll see how rich davepeck is getting off thebreakfast.info..

and if anyone would like to see receipts or credit card statements, by all means, ask away.

wow.

Well Dave. I think that if you are charging for your time thats a little different but you may want to let people who are "donating" know that their money is being donated for your time which would of course be the largest expense.

"The general .info operating fund Donations will go towards site software licenses/upgrades/renewals, domain name registrations/renewals, etc. Donate any amount you\'d like. No amount is too small!"

and YOU choose to use this software that I guess costs you tons of $. I guess I thought you maintain the site because you were trying to help the band out and not because you wanted to be compensated for your time. I never said you were getting rich just asked how the $ was being spent. When seeing the amount of money people were donating I think it is a safe question to ask. Especially considering the site is hosted for free! I appreciate that you spend your time with this site, however we can argue all day long if I think you deserve to be compensated for it above the costs of the licenses etc and free entrance to shows.

so $1400 in 3.5 years to cover the costs of the site thats 400/yr Are you saying that after the initial purchase of the software that you are still seeing those same costs ? considering you have 0 hosting fees 0 bandwidth transfer fees etc etc. ?

You answered my question so for that thank you but I think if you are including the time you spend on this site as part of the cost of it then where does it end ?

sorry bra, i don\'t think i\'ve ever even met you muchless knew you host dotinfo. it\'s much apprieciated. but hey not knowing, i had to say something. personally i\'m always on dotinfo, when i\'m around a comp. and i have a decent amount of pics on here as well so my small donation is of no concern to me. i\'m more than happy to give loot to keep this site up and running without question because it hasn\'t failed me.

Why do you host this site for free? How much does it cost to host a site as such?

Back when the original .info/net/com was having trouble with a former webmaster etc I offered to host the site for free. (I work at an ISP ) so I wanted to help out the band and Peck out of a crappy situation and was able to do it in a hurry for him/them.

here the site would be $65.00/mnth but other places it could be higher or lower.

makes sense.

$65/month would definitely add up quickly.

fixed.

like i said, the system isn\'t back to 100% yet. there used to be a profile field where you could set your donation status to public or private.  yours was set to private. i just ran a SQL script to make it public, so you\'re good now..

that\'s odd... a glitch in the matrix? i know that i\'ve manually added your in-person donations in the past..

any idea where you\'re at? in the $40 range i think?

since the donations system is working but not back to 100% yet (\'donor\' status not appearing for users), i wanted to give a public thank you to the following people for their donations in the past couple weeks:

princesscaspian
sallyalli
jocelyn
donbean
macfawlty
(wow. THANK YOU!!)

your status on the donation page IS up to date.

thanks again folks. it means a lot!
