got my wisdoms pulled 2 years ago. Get the laughing gas if you can. You\'ll be feeling pretty good :) You\'ll fall right the **** asleep, won\'t feel any of it, then maybe you\'ll get some percosets for free. I sure did....
same for me. I had all 4 out at 17 in high school. That stuff nocked me out for the whole operation. They gave me hydrocodine for recoverywhich had me knocked out for almost 3 days afterward, and I only took 2 or three of the pills! Glad I had them out when I did though.
My advice, wear an old shirt. After I came to they dragged me into a recovery room a-la\' pink during the comfortably numb scene in the wall. I remember my mouth opening on it\'s own and a ton of blood pouring out. It was probably a big mess, but I was so doped up I don\'t really remember. (sorry if that grossed out anyone)

Save them and make a necklace!!
that\'s a great idea! too bad i only have one to take out...maybe i\'ll make your cat a cute lil kitten collar with my wisdom tooth. ;)
Oops, forgot it was only one.
Also...I just remembered what I did to smoke when I had mine out (all four, same time). Take a small piece of gauze, soak in water, place over hole. Just remember to take it out when done. Then rinse your mouth out. This was what my ortho surgeon told me to do. Of course this was over 20 years ago, so might not be "acceptable" by todays dentists. Good luck!!!

I had all four impacted removed my first freshman year of college (6 or 7 years ago). Doctor put me under via IV, woke up, no pain, but felt it a little later. Wasn\'t too bad though. I only got prescribed Tylenol with Codine (not much help) and didn\'t take the majority of them. I was smoking cigarettes within 12 hours, but very carefully, shouldn\'t be too much of an issue with only one getting removed. I think I was in more pain with my root canal a couple years ago, but I was awake for that so it may have been in my head (was the first time I got novacaine at the dentist, have a fear of needles in the mouth).

i\'m basically going to try to get as **** up as possible for this. definitely looking forward to the percs/recovery phase.

yeah I had about 4 or so pulled out when I was younger. as far as I can recall it wasnt so painful but I do remember having lots of gas and what not so I suppose that probably helped out quite a bit. either way good luck to you. hope all goes well

I had them all out in middle school. It didn\'t seem like too big of an inconvenience at the time.

i\'ve been worried about the smoking thing...got a warning about the dry socket issue already. i will definitely have to refrain from my habits a bit.
like i said, i\'m only having one tooth pulled so i\'m not too worried. i have class from 9-2 on wednesday that i\'m kind of nervous about, but definitely plan on going regardless of any pain.

Yeah if they are severely impacted it\'s technically a "medical emergency."
2 out of 4 teeth were pretty painful in my case. But no medical as well as dental, so... In the end I would say I averaged about $300/tooth.

no dental insurance for me either in a sense I was lucky they were impacted cuase it counted as a medical procedure or something so my medical coverd it. (I miss having insurance)

For most people the surgery is not bad. I had all 4 removed seperately (no dental insurance = $$$$$), 3 of which I was awake for (no one to drive me home so therefore no getting put under.) Only one of them really bothered me pain-wise, and I never got bad swelling. Even if it IS bothersome, it will only be for a day or so. You\'ll be fine.
Go easy on the smoking for at least a day or 2. Which will be hard because you\'ll want to smoke a lot, especially if you are, errr, liberal with your usage of painkillers. But I do know one person who got drysocket (I think that\'s what it\'s called) from smoking too much. Don\'t get that.
Also try not to drink a lot the day before/after the surgery. It will make you bleed more.
Other than that... lots of chicken noodle and minestrone soup, milkshakes, and other such delicious liquidy things. **** the jello unless you have a lot of whipped cream.

the only advice I can give you: get a good dentist. Mine gave me gas, novicaine (sp?) and then an IV of valium. I woke up as he was putting the stiches in. I felt nothing, he gave me a scrip for hyrdocodone (sp?) and let me refill it twice, so yeah I felt nothing.

i was supposed to have all four extracted 2 years ago and didn\'t. three have grown in (which is okay), but one of those suckers is being a little **** and had my gum so swollen the other day that i had a lisp (there are a few people on this board that will back me up on that because they were there). i was at a tombstone unveilling party on sunday where i met a dentist who was able to prescribe some hard core amoxicillin(sp?), but instructed for me to have this tooth pulled asap. so anyway, it looks like i am going to be operated on next tuesday. if anyone would like to give me any advice regarding this medical procedure, please feel free to. also, if anyone wants to help me self medicate and make the pain go away, send a pm. i know that you will all pray for my surgery to go smoothly and i appreciate taht from the bottom of my heart. i love you.
