sully\'s is not north end, and if you get a pitty make sure you have a plan for when you\'re "done with him". also realize they can be high maintenance ie. hope you have a couch connection, unless you really do plan to walk him at least 6x/day at least a mile at a pop. they\'re fantastic dogs for the right people but should not be got for image or protection especially in hartford. check hartford pound for proof. there are 3 being killed today alone.

Ones on sisson ave while watching my bros 80-pound pit bull chase this thing around a courtyard
And the other was just last week across the street from half door, behind the pizza store. After seeing two full-grown rats i still proceed to buy a slice (for reason of belligerence).

It worked for an old roomate.
One day back in winter 2000, while residing at 215 Fitch Street New Haven, my roomate and I were sitting on our pleather couch, chain smoking with an over flowing ashtray between us, playing Madden (Eddie George edition) on N64, when our other roomate burst through the front door as if shot from a canon.
He immediately turned to the closet next to the front door and took out his chainsaw (he worked for a tree service, and the front closet is where he just happened to keep it). He ran out the front door as fast as he came in, starting it up on the way.

Good God kid. You might as well be wearing a bright neon sign that says "**** WITH ME" right now.
The good news, is that sign fades with time. You might not be aware of it, but you probably look a little lost and wide eyed right now. The more comfortable you become with your environment the better off you\'ll be.
A little advice from someone who went to school in the ghetto:
-don\'t carry alot of valuables on you. This lessens your chance for loss, but also makes you less nervous if confronted. A \'robbing me is a complete waste of time\' attitude goes a long way.
-walk close to the street on the sidewalk. It gives you an extra step to see what is around corners or in alleys.
-wear your worn out clothes to the store. Brand new stuff screams \'rich kid\', and less fortunate locals really resent that.
-walk with purpose and keep moving. If you had stopped today you may been robbed.

Hiring a homeless guy as an entourage is an interesting idea.
Alone = easy target in the hood
Sometimes people will casually ask you to give them your wallet in a non-threatening manner, to see if you\'ll actually do it. A guy asked my girlfriend\'s dad for his wallet in Oakland, and he told him to **** off. The guy retreated and said he was "kidding".
If you\'re spending a lot of time in bad neighborhoods, where it\'s highly probable that another incident will occur in the future, you may wish to hang up the Birkenstocks and opt for a good pair of running shoes.
Have a contingency plan in case you are confronted again on your route: Where to run to, where the nearest rock pile is (for ammo;) ) etc.
