Title: Should each song have its own thread?
Post by: leith on September 01, 2006, 01:51:25 am: I think it is a nice idea but I think the lyric thread is fine and when someone wants to discuss a song they can make a thread as one does now.

I really do not see a need for this.

As has been mentioned not all threads will get attention. One result will most def. be those wonderful threads that will be started in support of those ignored threads.
Then there will be the threads started outside of the appropriate area by either newbs or the temporarily memory impaired .

I predict these type threads will just continue and eventually make the "song threads" moot if they are indeed created.

Then perhaps ALSO a thread for each individual song, with or without the lyrics. Someone may have already said this; I didn\'t read through the whole thread...

Also, I don\'t like that smiley where the guy hits the horse over the head. The horse should buck him off. How would you like it if someone hit YOU over the head every time you had to ****?

Like Me! said, there\'ll be a whole bunch of threads that will be busy for a while then would probably die down. I like having the lyrics all on one thread, too.

you make a good point here. this is so much of what music is about - each person connecting to a song in his/her own way. but i still like the idea of a song thread so that each person can share his/her thoughts and maybe gain insight or perspective to further his/her understanding.

having said that, i now have an issue with my last post about putting the "agreed upon" interpretation at the top of the thread. first of all, who are we to decide that? and secondly, reading through the thread will offer the train of thought that is so important to understanding (or thinking you understand) the meaning of a song. so i would say if people are genuinely interested in understanding a song, they should read the thread....

With the kind of foolishness that gets posted on this board (me being a contributor of said nonsense), I think its a bit of a pipe dream to think these threads will at all resemble The Annotated GD page.

But I still think its a good idea.

Another idea might be to periodically update the first post as well. Once there is an agreeded upon theme, that could be posted up top as an official/unofficial statement on what the song is about. That way (especially for newbies) they wont have to read through the whole thread to find out what the agreed upon definition is.

instead of having the lyrics section as it is now (just one thread with every song), what about a new Song Forum, with one thread for each song? the first post will have the lyrics, and each thread can have discussion about song meanings, interpretations, best versions, etc...
