oh sarah i\'m so happy with it! i started to tear a bit when you got to mrs spencer and gren!
i love how you keep talking about greens and roots and such. =)
ashley told me about the beginning- the lack of memory and wish for long arms and a group hug! hilarious! i can\'t wait to see you up there all happy and laughing and reading this. it will be so wonderful!
i love these parts:

----->I must say that the Sunapee Community is quite friendly, thank you all.
(thank you collins, thank you cahill, thank you king, thank you steve mcgrath...)
Quote from: Stumblin\'Sarah
-->Most importantly, thank you to our teachers. We are better students and people because our worlds have been shaped by the encouragement, dedication and wonderfulness of those like Mrs. Spencer, Mr. Grenier, Mr. Schulman, and so many others. We are truly fortunate, thank you all again so much.

---->Keep your heart-temple clean but your feet dirty.

-->Take occasional comfort in the safety of a blanket and over-stuffed sofa, but don?t hesitate to hitchhike across the country on impluse with nothing but a satchel. Pocket the map; on your detours you?ll see some of your life?s greatest sights. See those places far and away, but never forget where home is.

--->Get lots of greens, but enjoy plenty of ice cream cones too.

---->Surround yourself with kind, loving people, and be yourself a kind, loving person. Give more than you take and give plenty of hugs. Smile at strangers. make time to relax your mind and be still, maybe in a sunny field. Just like rain feels best after hot days, you?ll be able to appreciate the simplicities that make you love what you love.
^^^so wise.

Quote from: Stumblin\'Sarah

now that\'s funny.
Quote from: Stumblin\'Sarah
Take the time to expand your mind and explore your surroundings while still free and uncommitted, but don?t be afraid to commit. We?ll know when it?s good.

---->We are growing into such amazing individuals, and we have so much more growing to do. The time has come to be transported to new soils, so mind your roots and set your sights on new lights, no matter how far off in the distance. Nourish your mind and your body, like I said, you?ll need plenty of water.

--->in the words of Robert Hunter, ?Walk you in the Sunshine.?

any thoughts?

i don\'t know how it could get any more wonderful!

This reads really interestingly when you look between the lines:
Quote from: Stumblin\'Sarah

dance, dance like you know everything.
Get lots of greens
Surround yourself with kind,
Get plenty of water and you?ll do just fine.
expand your mind and explore your surroundings
be excellent to each other.

here she is...microsoft word doesnt think i\'m in 7th grade! and i had to edit out some stuff, but i think i\'m happy.

Hi everybody! My classmates I love so much! I?m so glad I get to talk to you all on our special day! I know you won?t remember what I?m saying, but just please remember how happy I was to be here and that I wish you all the best in life. Seeing everybody sitting together makes me wish I had really long arms so that I could give you all a big friendly giant hug. I wanted to leave you all with relevant wisdoms, and I came up with a good many, but if I can?t remember them, I shouldn?t expect you would either, so this is going to be pretty simple. Take it easy while I extend some deserved appreciation and share some basic life things.
First I must thank all of our parents who held our hands on the first day of school, tolerated tornados of papers around the house, and helped us out with our science projects. Also I must say that the Sunapee Community is quite friendly, thank you all.  Most importantly, thank you to our teachers. We are better students and people because our worlds have been shaped by the encouragement, dedication and wonderfulness of those like Mrs. Spencer, Mr. Grenier, Mr. Schulman, and so many others. We are truly fortunate, thank you all again so much.
Life is contrast. Keep your heart-temple clean but your feet dirty. Listen like you know nothing, but dance, dance like you know everything. Take occasional comfort in the safety of a blanket and over-stuffed sofa, but don?t hesitate to hitchhike across the country on impluse with nothing but a satchel. Pocket the map; on your detours you?ll see some of your life?s greatest sights. See those places far and away, but never forget where home is. Get lots of greens, but enjoy plenty of ice cream cones too. Surround yourself with kind, loving people, and be yourself a kind, loving person. Give more than you take and give plenty of hugs. Smile at strangers. Work or study hard and with focus, but make time to relax your mind and be still, maybe in a sunny field. Just like rain feels best after hot days, you?ll be able to appreciate the simplicities that make you love what you love.
We have the best years of our lives ahead. Get plenty of water and you?ll do just fine. Take the time to expand your mind and explore your surroundings while still free and uncommitted, but don?t be afraid to commit. We?ll know when it?s good. Don?t underestimate anything. Even the slightest bit of wonderful can make us smile, and a good friend is this times a thousand, so be excellent to each other.  We are growing into such amazing individuals, and we have so much more growing to do. The time has come to be transported to new soils, so mind your roots and set your sights on new lights, no matter how far off in the distance. Nourish your mind and your body, like I said, you?ll need plenty of water.  Go forth strong and in the words of Robert Hunter, ?Walk you in the Sunshine.?

any thoughts?

I think you guys are all taking it the wrong way. I think Sunapee is a great town to grow up in, I mean..I still live there and go to Colby-Sawyer. What I meant by getting out is stepping outside of their comfort zone and experiencing life a little bit. It seems to me that when I was in high school, the sense of adventure in most of the kids was really lacking. I just thought Sarah should mention life beyond small town politics and high school sports. But yeah, Sunapee is a great place to settle down in...when you\'re ready to settle ;)

The town itself aint thatbad it\'s actually kinda nice, but the school is pretty weaksauce. It\'s very small and they want to be known as the best public school in the state so they run things as if it were a private school and have retardedly strict rules. They also try and force out the kids who they think are bad, especially if they think you\'re a stoner. They would rather you drop out of highschool then cut you some slack and make things at least bareable. the school has always been kinda like this but it has recently been going downhill fast, ever since the new principal (hambone) came there a couple years ago.

and for the speech...i think you should tell all of your fellow sunapee kids to get out...as soon as possible!!! you know that half of them are going to be living in their little sunapee security bubble for the rest of their lives.

...but say it in a nice way :)
what the...?  we used to vacation in sunapee when i was a kid, and i loved it there.  i think it would be a marvelous place to settle down.

as for the speech, the best graduation speech i ever heard was one that started off with, "life\'s a road trip."

i think its just a natural thing for any teenager to think their hometown is the worst place on earth.  but in reality, its no different than anywhere else really.

if you\'re going to throw a quote/saying in there, go with a famous poet/writer or relate it to your favorite book or childhood story. while the grateful dead or other bands have inspiration lyrics that people who love the bands can relate to, not everyone is familiar with that whole mentality.

I was thinking the same thing.  Use quotes sparingly and stick with ones that everyone, or most everyone, will know.  Also, it is best to use a quote as a starting point, give credit to the person who originally said it, and then connect it to a personal story that has to do with your life and school and the whole experience.  Personally, I would recommend Thoreau.  He gives great advise on how to live life and be free.  Here are some of my favorites:

As long as possible, live free and uncommitted.  It makes but little difference whether you are committed to a farm or the county jail

Rather than love, than money, than fame, give me truth.

If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer.  Let him step to the music he hears, however measured or far away

True friendship can afford true knowledge. It does not depend on darkness and ignorance.

OK, I could go on forever!  (I was a huge Thoreau fan when I was in school.)  He has so many quotes that could go with a theme of people being free, being unafraid to be who they are and not who everyone wants them to be, and searching for truth above all else in their future experiences.  The best graduation speech I ever heard was at Quinnipiac and it was all about those ideas of finding and making your own experiences.  Only time I actually listened to a graduation speech!

I have nothing to offer, public speaking is one of my biggest fears. I\'ve had to give one speech, being the best man in a wedding, in front of 200+ people, most of whom I didn\'t know, and it was extremely awful (for me, not the speech, that turned out to be an awesome tear jerker)

Change is the game, the game is to change
So don\'t you ever be the same
The nature of life is to always be free
Make Question Mark And The Mind a reality

Hey all these signs what are they saying to me
That the status quo is dangerous, don\'t believe all you read
Go out of your game and play all around
The globe is a playpen for inquiring minds now

Conclusion or not, many ideas yes
Fusion is what I want, fusion is best

Absorbing lots of information don\'t forget to give
Energy is everything and sharing is to live
Inform the young, inform the old and you
May Question Mark And The Mind be a line
To pursue....

first of all, congratulations on graduating/speaking at your graduation!
i was a speaker at my high school graduation and totally dreaded it. the speakers were nominated by the faculty/students and i seriously wanted nothing to do with giving a speech, but i had a teacher who would not let me get out of it. just remember that people get bored at these things (at least i did). keep your sense of humor and be yourself. if you\'re going to throw a quote/saying in there, go with a famous poet/writer or relate it to your favorite book or childhood story. while the grateful dead or other bands have inspiration lyrics that people who love the bands can relate to, not everyone is familiar with that whole mentality. go with something that lots of people can relate to and take it from there. stories like dr seuss\'s "oh the places you\'ll go" can be a good start or any other books that are well-known and have that kind of theme. then again, i didn\'t quote anyone for my speech, i just talked about my hs experience, getting in trouble with a truincy officer lol, etc.

i have to deliver a salutatory speech for graduation and dont want it to be blahh... this is an opportunity to really say something you know...

i\'m looking for lyrics or quotes to end it with a punch or inspire...
..., so far i am only sure about "be excellent to eachother" {from Bill and Ted, of course} and or a dead line...

i\'m sure you\'re the right group to ask :D , so be kind and help a girl out
