One big problem is that you have people that have never tried drugs trying to teach children about drugs. :sigh:

Yea, really, that\'s like getting advice on sex from a priest! You should wait until your married and then "go forth and multiply" until the planet is overun with humans and society breaks down due to lack of food, land and corruption of power and we declair a "holy war", "hundred years war", "war of the roses", "manifest destiny", "great war", "russian revolution", "revolutionary war", "civil war", "world war", "cold war", "war on terror", or anything else you want to call it, (because murder is a sin, but fighting on the side of god is a free ticket to heaven, no matter which side your on) to get what the other guys got and we use that to trim back the numbers. Afterward, all the men come home and a baby boom starts (but only after marriage!) because they haven\'t had anything at all for years on end, then we start the paragraph over.

but that would never happen!

I\'ll never forget being in a restaurant when  my daughter was around 6 or 7 and having her say to us, in a not too quiet voice, that we do drugs.....because we smoked cigarettes. That was when her mom and I came up with our own version of drug education (and no...we didn\'t smoke pot with her!!). And thank God it has worked so far. If they continue to put cigarettes in the same category as **** and heroine, our youth is headed for disaster. One big problem is that you have people that have never tried drugs trying to teach children about drugs. :sigh:

dare is severely over the top and in fact achieves the opposite of what it intends to do.  when i first smoked pot and realized that it wasnt at all what dare made it out to be, i totally disregarded everything i was taught there, even the stuff that was valid. (very little, but still some nonetheless)

as for this situation, i think it\'s terribly irresponsible to smoke pot with your 11 year old child.  the younger someone starts using drugs, the more likely they are to develop addiction.  during those developmental years, a kid should be learning other methods of coping with life than using drugs.  when someone who has spent that time learning healthy coping skill uses drugs, they\'re less likely to develop a problem because they don\'t need to use those drugs as a way of dealing.  someone who has no other coping mechanisms would, without even realizing it, use drugs for this purpose because it is much easier than learning healthy ways of coping with life.  i mean, who WASN\'T an insecure mess in middle school??  throw drugs into the mix and it\'s a recipe for early stages of addiction.  for your kid\'s high school graduation, sure light one up with him/her, but teaching an 11 year old that whenever he does something he\'s supposed to do, he gets to get ripped is just asking for trouble.

Let ask a serious q here.

Do you think that DARE educates kids about drugs or does it make them aware of drugs? I feel that DARE teaches kids about drugs but not in the way it is intended.

When your 13 yrs old aren\'t you old enough to know it isn\'t a good thing to narc out your parents ?

OK should she have been using it as a reward to do his homework ? Of course not but narc\'ing out your parents is only gonna get you in a world of trouble not to mention totally screrwing up your parents lives.

This is like the story cops tell kids when they go to elementary schools with that stupid plastic case full of drugs and tell kids that this is what drugs look like. And then they tell you that feel good story about some young kid turning in their older sibling "to help them" and then they wait for the kids to tell them stuff. Its all propaganda.

Parents who puff down with their kids are no different than parents who drink with their kids. It just is becasue 1 of them is OK in the public eye and the other is not. I have had drinks with my mom, i would puff down with her if i thought she would want to but she has the mentality that most people do that all drugs are bad and stupid. She isn\'t much of a drinker either.

I wonder how his grades were doing

One of my 12 yr. old student\'s parents smokes buds w/ him cuz she thinks its safer than him smoking outside the home...

don\'t you have a responsibility as a teacher to say something?

(not saying you should, but isn\'t there some liability put on you since you know?)

Legally, the only thing i can do is send a child to the nurse if I suspect anything.  We would then need parent permission for a drug test.  This happened earlier in the year & his mom is the one who told us... since that point, he\'s been arrested for marijuana & is now on house arrest & probation.  His mom transferred him into an "alternative program" so i don\'t see him anymore.  :sigh:

that is just wrong, however i don\'t think it\'s such a big deal if you smoke pot with your parents at some time in your life/when you are older. for the mother to make it acceptable to a kid at that young of an age is not a good thing. my parents scared the **** out of me when i got caught with some friends being pretty stupid and obvious about it back in the day...then they got a lot cooler and honest about themselves and what it was like growing up in the 70s as i got older...

Boy Does Homework, Smokes Pot With Mom
By The Associated Press

Sat May 6, 6:17 AM

HANOVER, Pa. - A 13-year-old boy told police his mother required him to do his homework first thing when he got off the school bus, then smoked marijuana with him as a reward.

The mother said she had been smoking marijuana with her son since he was 11, usually as a reward, according to court documents.

The police interview came after officers executed a search warrant at the woman\'s home last weekend and seized marijuana, an array of drug paraphernalia and $600 in cash that she said belonged to a drug dealer, court documents said.

Amanda Lynn Livelsberger, 30, faces charges of marijuana possession, corruption of minors, endangering the welfare of children and possession with intent to distribute drug paraphernalia, police said.
