Hardly smoke at all now. Back then....1/4 ounce per night minimum!!!!
-
Pretty sure it was announced on the radio as The Warlocks. But I smoked A LOT of weed back then!! :D
and this is unlike now because, um, er... nevermind :stoned:
-
I\'ll have to sift through my ticket stubs. I got tickets from my friends dad who did electric work for the civic center. Found out about/ got tickets 5 days before. I think these were the shows that we were 4th or 5th row each night. Pretty sure it was announced on the radio as The Warlocks. But I smoked A LOT of weed back then!! :D

Whew! For a moment I was kind of flabbergasted.
I mean I am known among my friends as the person to go to for GD info.
Yeah I am a big **** geek for the Dead.
As I said if there were another Warlocks show I would have been there.
It is funny because I remember my friend George asking me why they were being billed as "Formerly The Warlocks" I told him it was so only the real heads would be able to witness the return of H>S>F. I really had no idea they were already banned in the nearby area.
Oh and yeah that H>S>F call was only beaten by my calling the complete 2nd set in order of 12/12/93 San Diego Sports Arena @ setbreak.

So. I did some internet research and here is what i was able to discover about Hartford and the Grateful Dead playing as "Formerly the Warlocks"
As mentioned prior in this thread. The Hampton shows were definitely billed as "fromerly the Warlocks" this was October 1989. The Grateful Dead had been banned from Hartford since about 1983 (Kyle said he was at the show and someone jumped off sky walk between the parking garage and the civic center)
Anyway because the hampton shows were billed as such and fairly close to this date rumors abounded that the Grateful Dead would do the same in Hartford CT. What they did do was basically not annouce the shows and tickets were sold with little to no prior knowledge.
-
i don\'t remember anything about the warlocks. i agree with leith, the only one i remember was the one in hampton.
-
Leith your right.... The only \'Warlocks\' shows were hampton... The HArtford shows were basically \'unannounced\' shows , NOT the Warlocks.... HArtford was unannounced until a week or so before.. There was no mail order. The GD hotline had those dates as \'open\' with no shows even in the middle of the tour. Everyone knew it would be somewhere.. I saw Nassua on this tour and figured I wouldnt see HArtford due to no mail order... My Dad kicked in and took me the first night and gave me a piar for night two...

Had to google it. I remember this show:
03/18/90
Hartford Civic Center - Hartford, CT
The next night was an FM broadcast, but wheres the tapes of this one??
-tim griffin,
Grateful Dead 3/18/90 (http://www.archive.org/audio/etree-details-db.php?id=11778)
Grateful Dead 3/19/90 (http://www.archive.org/audio/etree-details-db.php?id=11779)
Oh yea, and your a bastard because you went. That was still the time when my mom would not let me go to a concert on my own (only in middle school), let alone a gd show. grrrr....
Anyone else ever get this one?
"Why do you need so many tapes of the same band? They can\'t have that many songs, so you\'re just listening to the same stuff over and over again. Why?"

yes but that setup the "warlock" shows at the civic center.
I wasn\'t going to dead shows yet but I remember when they came back to play under the warlocks to get around the ban of the Grateful Dead.
I would like to see a poster or shirt for this show. As far as I ever rememeber the only shows billed as "Warlocks" were the 2 in \'89 in Hampton Va. billed as "Formerly The Warlocks" 2 planned shows set wise that had the return of H>S>F,Dark Star and Attics!!!!!!!!
Talk about pulling all the strings possible to get to these shows. I was stationed in Portsmouth and had to basically go AWOL for a couple of days w/ the help of some friends.
Was the show advertised only locally as "The Warlocks" ? Because I would have made the show for sure @ that point in time.

Yea, I never new about that untill I saw the tour shirt several years ago. IMO, one of the best/funniest things any band ever did.

yea, it figures we get a band that likes to play ct and what does the state do? They ban them from touring within the state because the govenor didn\'t like all the hippies camping in the city parks. :sigh:

HA.. Some of you are showing your age LOL....
My mom wouldnt let me go to those shows.. I was too young... But Hartford 84 was my 16 b-day and I was at alot after that....

The Dead were actually one of the few national acts that "liked" to play CT. For most it is usually just a stop-off between multinight runs in Boston and New York...There are quite a few great CT Dead shows.
-
I don\'t think I have this one, but the 2 night run in hartford from 90 is pretty kick ass. That was one of my first boots ever and those 4 tapes will always be some of the best late era gd to me.
