for a board that managed to post 3+ pages of hoopla before this movie was released, i can\'t believe there\'s been only one post since it came out..
we saw it on opening night in a relatively empty theatre.. i got tix in advance thinking it would sell out, and it wasn\'t even close (and was only playing on one screen at the theatre we went to).
anyways, i thought it was really good. no, not as funny as the original, and i didn\'t think it was as funny as J&SBSB either, but i still thought it was damn good. wasn\'t disappointed with it at all. k.smith\'s wife still sucks though..
favorite parts were the racism part and the SW/LOTR argument.. i\'ll probably see it once more in the theatre..

saw this a few nights ago..very funny, but "meh" in comparison to the original clerks and other kevin smith movies.

A friend of mine said they heard Kevin Smith being interviewed on NPR, and he said everyone around him was against the idea of this movie. Scott Mosier (uber producer(and the guy that plays "snowball" in the first one)) was esp against it, but the hardest to convince was Dante, he was completely against it.
Anyway I\'m gonna go see it this weekend, prob sun, so we\'ll see. I\'m too intrigued that Siegel walked out during the screening.
Don\'t Miss: Kevin Smith Clocks in with \'Clerks II\'
July 20, 2006 · Finally someone on NPR to speak up for shiftless layabouts. Kevin Smith, director of the low-budget classic Clerks talks to Morning Edition\'s Steve Inskeep about the upcoming release of -- you guessed it -- Clerks II.
Dante and Randal have moved on from the QuikStop to a fast food joint, but their MO remains the same: minimum work for minimum wage.
Smith is funny, but unexpectedly touching when talking about the unambitious but utterly human individuals who inspire his movies. "Someone\'s got to sell me the milk, dude," he tells Inskeep. "Not everyone shoots for the moon... some people are happy to scrape by."

GMA\'s Siegel storms out of \'Clerks II\' screening
Maybe it\'s because he has to wake up so early. Or maybe he just doesn\'t like Kevin Smith.
Either way, one thing\'s certain: "Good Morning America" film critic Joel Siegel really, really hates "Clerks II," set to open Friday at theaters across the country.
Sitting in the front row of a packed midtown Manhattan screening room Monday night, Siegel dramatically stood up only 30 minutes into the film and stormed out, to the amazement of those in attendance.
And he didn\'t go quietly.
"Time to go!" he yelled as he stood up and proceeding to walk out, passing dozens of critics and writers on his way to the door. And his tirade continued all the way out, as he yelled over the film\'s dialogue that this was the first time "in thiry (expletive) years" he had walked out on a film.
The apparent reason for Siegel\'s vulgar outburst? A line of dialogue in the film - well, one of many, actually - about sex between a woman and a donkey. Later in the screening, one other unnamed critic appeared to make an early departure.
Only time will tell what Siegel has to say about the episode on "GMA" this Friday
Now I really can\'t wait to see this movie

i was in Canada last week...... my only piece of advise..... DON\'T miss your flight home  :slap:

It\'ll sorta be a Mr. Bean meets Duece Bigalow...
 I\'d pay a to see that.......
Oh you\'ll have to do better than that Mandler. I\'ve got you penciled in to play the mean spirited yet wildly hysterical "Boss #2". It\'s a small but important role.

Jersey Girl
"Opening Weekend
$8,319,171 (USA) (28 March 2004) "
yeah not even 1/11th of aquaman
8.3 Opening Weekend is horrible dude, i dont think that film made money.
As of Sept. \'04 (w/ worldwide ticket sales & 3 weeks of DVD) it had earned close to $2M more than its estimated $35M price tag.
Far from a blockbuster, but nobody lost money. I\'m sure K.Smith and the rest of the cast wasn\'t going into this project thinking that it was going to break any box office records.
I watched an interview w/ Kevin Spacey the other day where he was talking about the business aspects of the film industry and how studios accept the fact that 1/3 of the movies they make each year will only break even, 1/3 will be flops, 1/3 will make good money and they prey that they get 1 blockbuster.
On that note, I\'m outta here. I\'m off to Winnipeg, I\'m making an ultra low budget film about a guy in his early 30\'s, who just started a new job & has no idea what he\'s doing. But his bosses insist on sending him to customer sites obviously as a means of torture and a good laugh at his account. It\'ll sorta be a Mr. Bean meets Duece Bigalow...

Chasing Amy: Budget: $250,000 (estimated)
opening weekend: $1,642,402 (USA) (20 April 1997) (519 Screens) (wide release)
Dogma: Budget:$10,000,000 (estimated)
$8,669,945 (USA) (14 November 1999) (1,269 Screens)
Strike Back: Budget:$22,000,000 (estimated)
opening:$11,018,543 (USA) (26 August 2001) (2,765 Screens)
Really not all that different from what he normally does, I don\'t think you can\'t say that those movies weren\'t a success. No they didn\'t have Spiderman numbers, (a real movie) but they certainly made $$$$
-
I\'d say that\'s about an average moving openiong really not all that bad

^^I\'m not even gonna ask what that\'s supposed to mean.....
Some things are as literal as they sound, no need to read too far into it. My buddy and his wife (ie my HBO connection) just had their first child. Some sundays they\'re too sleep deprived to stay up to watch Entourage.

I\'ve missed the last couple weeks. My HBO connection just had a baby...

magnolia is money... all i\'m saying is that kevin smith ripping on PTA is like American Hi-Fi ripping on the beatles!
"a. Jersey Girl was merely Smith showing that he can play the "hollywood game"."
no, the hollywood game is about making money, not losing a shitload
Sure, it didn\'t pull in Aquaman numbers, but it didn\'t lose money
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0300051/business
 somebodyt else is watchin Entourage too!!

1)Citizen Kane
2)Gigli
3)Godfather
-
but come on now. how could the two of them ever possibly top gigli? its retarded of anyone to pair those two together after such a staple of american cinema.
-
I don\'t think it would have done as badly if not for the whole J.Lo and Ben Affleck thing, that was what drove alot of people away from that, it came came out right after Gigli
yeah that and it sucked

dude! he\'s gonna be pissed,
I hope you fuckin called him....:D
not this **** again

b. K. Smith is a much better dialog writer than director... his directing kinda sucks, but he can write a funny ass script.

c. Magnolia = more pompous crap. Although the scene when T. Cruise just comes off stage and starts that interview by taking off most of his clothes is pretty fuckin\' funny.

Mandler, you should give him a call sometime today.;)
-
are you fuckin ser about Magnolia?? was not a fan of that movie.....
I\'m not gonna defend Jersey Girl, it was what it was, a romantic comedy wich skews drasticaly from his usual demographic, but I really didn\'t think it was that awful. I just don\'t like romantic comedys,
-
Wes Anderson is a **** god you SERheads!
Kevin Smith is an idiot, he rips on Magnolia (one of the best films made in the past 20 years) and makes jersey girl. Come on, he blows now.
-
Greg Ellis spits truth, listen to him and you all might learn a thing or two.
-
I actually just saw the commericial for Clerks 2. Its color this time around.
-
You know what this reminds me of?? Every argument in this post is the exact same crap I heard 4 years to the day when a certain quartet from Vermont announced their return. Can\'t the guy just do what he loves,? especially since he used it as a means to get his best friend sober. I for one greatly look foward to this movie, and no matter how crappy or how recycled it may be, Im goin to celebrate it for what it is: The return of the greatest comic duo in this humble mans opinion.
-
I thought his Amex commercial was better than Life Aquatic.
Coen brothers have some chops too.
The Coens are gold I love nearly everything they do, (ladykillers was good but.....) can\'t wait till their next project.....
-
i hear what you\'re saying, but Wes Anderson dialouge is amazing, and he is also one of the best working directors, ever
I think his movies have gotten increasingly douche ridden over the years.
Life Aquatic was a Summers Eve drenched curtain call...
which was a shame, cause I loved Rushmore and that Tenenbaums movie was pretty good (but that\'s where the douche started seepin\' in). He\'s definitely one of the most creative visionaries out there. But IMO he needs a strong producers to **** slap him when he gets outta control. I thought his Amex commercial was better than Life Aquatic.
that Scorsese fella is a pretty good working director.
Coen brothers have some chops too.
-
been seeing ads for Clerks 2 all weekend, I guess it\'s out on July 21st....
-
I don\'t know whether you get the same TV ad as us, but advertising Lynx deodorant for chrissakes?!!!!
Nope, you get mostly different ads. Actors want to keep their cool rep but they can\'t turn down the money so they go do bad commercials in other countries that they are guaranteed won\'t air in the US.
Lynx is the same brand as Axe, it isSold as Lynx in the UK, Ireland and Australia.
Lynx deoderant. It brings out the tiger in you, and her!
-
Kevin Smith is a brilliant director. How can you tell me that Affleck and Lauren-Adams were ""poorly""" directed in Chasing Amy?
Wes Anderson is Wes Anderson, he relies on smarmy hipster acting/culture to get his often apathetic point across. Don\'t get me wrong, I think he\'s brilliant, but him and Mr. Smith are on completly different playing fields, both are heavy hitters though.
I\'d take recycled relationship scenarios and **** and fart jokes anyday of the week!!
Paul RyanLeonardo Leonardo.. the problem was ABC never aired the pilot. The first episode aired was the Dante\'s Trial episode and the second episode was the second episode with flashbacks to the unaired first episode. So the viewer was ?????????? the majority of the time... And Silent Bob, well he went on to be Sentator Robert Bukowski (not sure if that\'s the last name).
-
I loved clerks and the few cartoons I saw. I loved the way the second episode had a flashback to the first, and then made fun of the fact that that just happened yesterday. Classic.
This picture says it all imo:

Well. I for one will go see the film. Clerks is up there in my all time top ten list. I am a little worried whether C2 can live up to its predecessor. Will b ecool to see more Jay and Silent Bob - I take it he will be silent in this one?? I am also wonndering whether his usual buddies will be in it - I mean Ben Affleck needs a decent film to restore some small slither of pride - I don\'t know whether you get the same TV ad as us, but advertising Lynx deodorant for chrissakes?!!!!
-
wes anderson is ammaaaaaaazing

he is an amazin writer, just a horrible director....
I wouldn\'t say he\'s a horrible director, not a great one,
he\'s just not very uh, well um......... artistic. His movies are all babout the dialoge and I think iif the directing was to crazy that might be lost..
-
clerks cartoon\'s are **** amazing!
Clerks Two: Hardly Clerkin was supposed to come out after Mallrats, but i am sure he has completly rewritten anything he had then, plus, he said he wouldnt go back to these, then like a **** said "Well i\'ll do it if mewes gets clean" what he really meant was "i just killed my fanbase with a shitty jerry maguire remake and i need a way to get them back"
he is an amazin writer, just a horrible director....anyone read the comics he wrote? 5 spiderman\'s, 9 daredevils, 12 green arrows?
Who Is Driving, Bear Is Driving? How Can That Be!
-
and a mountain of View Askew universe inside jokes....
that\'s what I love about it "strikes back" isn\'t as funny unless you\'ve seen the 4 movies preceeding it
-
This has been in the making for at least 5 years now. Hell, Clerks 2 was supposed to be made after either Mallrats I think. It **** rocks. I can\'t wait for it. Clerks the cartoon rocked too hard, sideswiping the dull uneducated American tv viewer with a pleorethra of obscure cultural references and a mountain of View Askew universe inside jokes....
-
cept this one is not a prequel....
-
yeah no question i will see it opening day, but color? also i can\'t wait to see his "midi-chlorines" (an example of something in Ep.1 that made th OG trilogy worse)jesus!
-
I guess he just finally realized that allhe\'s got are dick and fart jokes......
not that there\'s anything wrong with that...
-
the originals rule nothing will change that no matter how good/bad this movie is....
I\'m very up in the air a little disgusted that he would do this, and a little excited to see another Jay and Bob movie.....
-
clerks 2 will be kevin smith\'s episode 1, not only will it suck it will make the originals worse!
-
I guess he just finally realized that allhe\'s got are dick and fart jokes......

Anything is better than Jersey Girl...
-
hmmmmm.... not sure how i feel about this.
i mean i\'m definitly gonna go see it....

Plot Summary for
Clerks II (2006)
The sequel picks up 10 years later. "It\'s about what happens when that lazy, 20-something malaise lasts into your 30s. Those dudes are kind of still mired, not in that same exact situation, but in a place where it\'s time to actually grow up and do something more than just sit around and dissect pop culture and talk about sex," Smith said during an interview at his Hollywood office. "It\'s: What happened to these dudes?"
Last I knew Kevin Smith swore up and down that "strikes back" was the last "jersey \'trilogy\'" movie...
