Title: Breakfast Sampler ? Suggestions Encouraged
Post by: leith on February 28, 2006, 05:57:28 am
Well I just finished burning 25 samplers and will do more when I get more discs.
LSD Breakfast Sampler: All 2005
1/21 Doughboy
        The Chase
3/26 Inner Glimpse
2/19 Jam>
        Sleeping Beauty
8/19 Episode 1 (Happy)
2/18 Vera Street
2/19 Question Mark
8/20 Within You Without You
6/10 Dig
        Puppetry>
        Mooboo\'s>
        Wake Up In A Coma>
        Voodoo>
        Puppetry

I figure start w/ some rockers, show some of the softer side and end w/ a bang !

Best Buy has them for around 100 for $10.

I\'ll head out there now, thanks for the suggestion!

I\'m buying more 100-packs of CDRs while I\'m there.

I just burned about 50 disks and need to house them in cd sleeves.  Can anyone point me in the direction of a place to buy them for cheap?  I went to Circuit City tonight and could only find a 30-pack for $14.99 - way too much.  I remember buying a 100-pack for less than $10 at Staples a few years ago, but I can\'t think of a Staples in the vicinity.

I should soon be done with all 100 Breakfast samplers and may need to buy another spindle for additional promo.  Let\'s hope this effort works!

if you\'re married to this SOS, i\'ll try and find time to cut off the crowd noise at the end.
what is the tracklisting?

Hey Cobb, don\'t worry about tailoring an SOS to fit my disk.  It\'s 79 minutes long - should enough Breakfast to hook plenty of new fans.

I know everyone has his/her own criteria for which tracks should/shouldn\'t be included, though I think I compiled a good balance of Breakfast talents.

Here is the track listing:

1. Doughboy, 7-31-2004 ("sick" version)
2. Mayfly, 7-31-2004 ("sick" version)
3. Inner Glimpse, 7-31-2004 (had to include it because Tim mentions "this next tune will be on our next album" at the end of the Mayfly track.  Thought it would be weird if I put another tune in its place after that announcement)
4. What The Funk, 12-16-2005
5. Attraction To Shade Ditty, 12-16-2005
6. Phaddy Boom Baddy, 7-31-2004 (really "sick" version.  Figured it might hook some newbs.  Really nice work by Jordan Giangreco)
7. Grand Scheme, 9-15-2005
8. Night of the Thumpasaurus Peoples, 11-24-2004
9. The Chase, 2-18-2006
10. Dig, 7-31-2004

I know some of the tunes may seem run-of-the-mill to Breakfast hardcores, but the versions selected are really crisp and stellar!   Other than Scheme, I didn\'t include any songs running over 10 minutes as we may lose some people in the drawn-out jams.

I\'m hoping to burn 100 disks by the coming weekend.

One question to all: in advance of a show(s), when is the ideal time to distribute the cds and flyers to people?

My disk is currently 81 minutes.  The 1-26-01 Son of Simpleton is 2.5 minutes, mainly due to it being the end of the show and there is almost a minute of wasted space on the end of it.  I may need to find one that is closer to 1 - 1.5 minutes.

Any suggestions?

Once I close the disk at 80 minutes, my final challenge is to find the perfect arrangement of tunes.  After that, I\'m hitting the streets with 100 burned disks along with handbills advertising the S.F. shows.

What songs do you currently have on it?

Dig, D5, Fairy, No Regret, Question Mark, Sleeping Beauty, VT Song

I wonder if there are some good Sleeping Beauties that clock in around 5?  I found good, short versions of Inner Glimpse and Dig.

I bet I could find a nice Wild Pack of Asscracks that fills that 6 minute time slot nicely, so you don\'t have to

I bet you could find a nice Wild Pack of Asscracks that fills that 6 minute time slot nicely.... [well I just typed "Wild Pack" into iTunes and of the 30 versions I have in my collection I only have ones 2002 and ealier that are 6 minutes or less... and IMO this song has only gotten better with age]

sooo... LDZ > HDX :D

I\'m including a \'Night of the Thumpasarus Peoples\' on there for good measure.  Current version is 11-24-2004, the first night of the legendary \'Turkey Tour 2004\' run.  Can anyone think of a better live performance of that tune?

Also, since I have cut out \'Rufus\' (most versions run around 18 minutes, too much disk space), I have 5-6 minutes remaining on the disk.  Any suggestions for quick tunes?  I already have a 6-minute \'Doughboy\', a 1.5-minute \'Attraction\', a 6-minute \'Chase\', and a 2-minute \'Son of Simpleton\'.  I\'d rather not put a \'Funky Bills\' or \'Bugs\' on the remaining space.  I\'ll throw down a \'Peaches En Regalia\' if I don\'t receive enough solid ideas. There must be some decent, shorter versions of many good tunes on the Archive.

1-21-05 Hard Luck Harry is a scorcher

Best Gladys Pimp to date: 2004-10-30 Electic Company, Utica
If anyone thinks there\'s a better one I really wanna hear it!

I\'d also throw a Son of Simpleton and LDZ > HDX on that sucker

and def Madison WI Buquebus..

Son Of Simpleton from 1-26-01 is going to be on it.

I\'ll have to check out that Electric Co. Gladys.

the UAC show from last April has a Gladys> Score> Gladys> Score on it.

Good recollection.  UAC Gladys part 2 has a good shot at making the disk, as it clocks in at only 6 minutes.

yeah I agree. Bugs is a song I\'ve come to love because its a PB classic, and yeah I definitely like it anyway, but I think the more ragin\' funkadelic jam machines are likely to grab people\'s attention on the first listen.

It\'s about originality. Al is trying to sell The Breakfast and by doing so the best of the best needs to be represented.  Bugs is a fun song to whip out once in awhile, lord knows I\' love getting down to it, but on a sampler disc, especially if it was the first time I heard it--next track please.

DMB= A song that should\'ve been written by Zeppelin in \'72..

All the more reason to include it then - gives newbs a chance to draw some reference points - and I don\'t know anyone who doesn\'t like Zep!!

Good luck with this one, al. Have often thought of doing the same thing, but usually just send out a complete show with my trades. Have had some good feedback from the incomplete matrix from just before Christmas. Got me listening to it again on a long train journey last week - the stereo effect is awesome when using headphones, especially Jordan\'s wacky tone generator type parts.

Can anyone think of a Gladys Pimp that is broken up as sandwich components (serving as the bread)?  Gladys can be up to 20 minutes long, so I\'d prefer to include just the funk section if such a copy exists.

It would probably be:

Gladys Intro > song x > Gladys funk
puppethouse gladys was broken up between nights

I?m creating a 1-disk Breakfast sampler for promotion of the upcoming Connecticut Yankee shows in S.F.  I have created an outline of the finest tunes to be included, along with their best known live performances.  My personal deadline is tomorrow morning as I?m trying to recruit my hairdresser for the show (he?ll probably dig the band) at my scheduled cut tomorrow.  Since I only have 80 minutes of disk space, I also need to decide which 20-minute epic tune to include (Mooboo?s, Buquebus, Rufus, Sundance etc.).

Please list the tunes that should make the sampler along with the best live versions of each.

Thanks for your participation!
