TLG is okay, sometimes great, sometimes not so much. they did have a great late night show at mt jam in june. however, i remember seeing them in an interview at bonnarroo and they said they dont really like playing the music that they do. the bassist is all about rap, the guitarist is more heavy metal, the pianist is into euro-crap. they said they dont dig the "hippy" scene, but yet who comes to their shows.

Sorry but I have to call you on this one. Interview link please. I beg you to show me where any member of the band says they do not like playing the music that they play. That is utter B.S. and if you cannot give a valid source you are just full of ****. I believe your memory of that interview is poor.

For your information TLG has forum member only shows in which forum members are allotted first dibs for special intimate shows in places like Noe Valley Ministry and San Geronimo Rec. Center. They helped form the allstar band on Jamcruise to play a GD setlist. They consistently write setlists with fan requests in mind, their ticket agency plants a tree for every ticket sold and they offer a CO2 offset w/ each ticket purchase. It seems to me they are very involved in the "hippy scene" and I can assure you they love the music play and they love the Community that has surrounded them.

i know what interview he\'s talkin about.... they didn\'t exactly say they don\'t like playing the music they play, but the bass player was labeled the "hip hop head" of the group, and went on to mention a dislike for the hippy noodly jam scene

i think it was on hbo on demand or something...

I went to TLG on sat at the paradise, they were very good.  First set was very short and they just started to get going when the took setbreak, but set 2 was awesome....they were a completely different band.  very good set

Glad you went and had a good time. I have been telling anyone that will listen that they are not the band they once were and to give them another chance.

Oh and I am making discs for ya.

Nice...thanks.

The one thing i was hoping for more would be for them to "peak" on some of there jams....right when they get crazy they go back into the chorus.  Other than that, consider myself a new fan of them

 Awesome.

Here\'s a sourced review:
http://www.glidemagazine.com/hiddentrack/?p=1007

I liked this bit:
Saturday was Statement Night, the band making this very case, and just when many in the crowd thought they couldn’t top Friday’s second-set magic, TLG opened with a four-song facefuck that had the crowd going ballistic within the first 20 minutes: Garden Part III, Papa’s in the Backroom, Kali-Yuga and The Devil’s Pay had even some of my non-believer friends grinning like the ghost of Shoeless Joe. Mediocrity ain’t home tonight, friends.

Josh absolutely slaughtered that Kali-Yuga, just as he did on many of songs during this run. His work in Tequila, breaking into Also Sprach Zarathustra on two separate occasions, left most of the paying audience both speechless and screaming at the same time. (Is that even possible? Nice sentence there, Ace.) The Don’t Do It > Can You Guess It? third-night closing duo was by far and away the highlight of the run for me, easily my favorite TLG song preceded by one of my favorite tunes of all-time. Throughout my two-year, 18-show history, this band knows how to send me home happy.

This is a band firing on all cylinders, but with all due respect to the other three (and they are all fantastic), TLG will go as far as Clark wants to take them. That may seem counterintuitive considering Garrod’s the lead singer and songwriter and I just spent a whole paragraph arguing “It’s the songs, stupid,” but if you watch the crowd when Clark is shredding something to tiny Enron pieces, it’s obvious how much this should be his band the way that Phish was Trey’s band and Jerry led the Dead. Sure they all play equal roles, and I’ve never heard them tighter, but when Josh flips the switch on Rock Star Mode and he steals the focus, I’m not sure there’s a band in this corner of the live music world that can touch ‘em.

i enjoyed this small tlg review...
I was at the Saturday night show, my 8th to date. Before this show I was really into their music, thought they had some real catchy songs, good grooves, good lyrics. Irving Plaza this past March was one of my favorite concerts I\'ve been to. Anyway, what I realized this past weekend was that Josh Clark, the guitar player, is pretty bad. He noodles around on the same notes, always misses his chance at the climax of a song to really take it somewhere, and he stands on stage like he\'s a guitar god. I\'m not sure if it was just me, or if it was actually that bad, but this weekend totally ruined my impression of this band and it\'ll be awhile before I go see them again. I\'m not even going to get into the bass player, cuase he seems like a huge tool and, like Josh Clark, can\'t really play his instrument as good as he thinks he can. The drummer had a solo, it was like watching a high school talent show/drum recital. Trevor is the only likeable member of this band (imo, I know there are people out there who don\'t like him either).

Source??

Sorry for the delay but here\'s what went down in ATL:

I got shut out of TLG.  I guess you were right Leith, I should have bought tickets early, but who can ever predict when a band will make a sudden breakthrough?  And it was sudden - as recently as 2005 I saw TLG in Athens GA along with ten other people.  But then TLG played a minor festival in Atlanta (Terrapin Beer Fest), and their next show, Sept. 05, was nearly packed.  The festival must have did the trick.  Also the 5 spot is a very good venue, with great promoters backing it - they also run the variety playhouse, which is a much bigger venue in ATL, and I guarantee TLG will be playing the variety playhouse next time here.

Yeah well I just bought my tickets for The Fillmore Auditorium in SF a venue which holds 1100 just in case.
Believe me even long time fans over on the TLG board are a bit surprised that they are buying Fillmore tix when we just saw them on a special SoCal 3 day run 3 weeks ago in places that hold no more than 500.

Also the Breakfast needs to get in on the 5 spot next time in ATL because this venue is perfect for an up and coming band and the promoters know how to get people in there ( and they also control larger venues so they hold the key to anyone wanting to get big in ATL.)

As for Moe that **** was sick!  Al is definitely in a dead heat with Tim Palmieri as the greates american guitar player on the scene right now.  Al is just a freaking alien.  He went nuts on guitar on multiple occasions, and the show was very jammed out.  It\'s good to see a true jamband make it big, and they are sticking to their jamband roots - they play to their strengths - jamming - rather than their weaknesses.  They do not try to reinvent themselves at the 11th hour, and deny that they\'re a jamband.  Trey could learn alot from Moe, who overall were far superior to Trey\'s last show.

Yeah the thing about the podcasts is they are all SBD versions. The 1st podcast is more rocking than #2. Glad you like it.
Wish you could come out and get down West Coast style w/ The Bfast again.

Yeah inflation is a ****.

I know plenty of people that would much rather see TLG than The Bfast and these guys have seen PB a few times. They are waaaaaaaay more of an aquired taste than TLG.

I know alot of people that would say the exact same thing abt the Bfast not being inspiring and songs sounding the same. The Breakfast is not known for their lyrics and probably never will be. The big draw for me and other Leafers seems to be our appreciation for songs that tell stories. Songs one can sing along to. Having ripping jams to go with the lyrics is just that much better.

I doubt it. Some get it and some don\'t.

$20 is a lot to see them.  How many people fit in The Fillmore?

Since you\'re hauling all the way up here, I\'ll think about it.

$20 is alot to you. For me I have been waiting for this day to come for them and someday I\'ll pay $20 to see The Breakfast there.
The Fillmore holds 1200 I believe.

Considering I saw the Chili Peppers w/ The Foo Fighters for $30 a couple years ago, $20 for TLG is a lot.

TLG is for those who have never seen The Breakfast ;)

I just wasn\'t very inspired by the tunes and it was my perception that there was little differentiation.

I would never say they aren\'t talented (as others have implied), as I was really digging their jamming.

Who knows, maybe I\'ll go to another show, enjoy it, then eat my words.    ?

It\'s sold out? ****.  This can\'t be because of local fans here in ATL.    It\'s because of people from San Fran going on tour with them.  Let\'s face it - TLG needs new fans in the southeast - they do not need their loyal fans down here to get shut out because 9 out of 10 tickets are going to kids who came all the way out here from California.  And I\'ve seen TLG at a club here in ATL where I was virtually the only person there! This is like Leith getting shut out of a Breakfast show at Winstons.

Anyway, I\'ll just try the ole show up early and confront the band as they\'re loading their gear and ask them to put me on the guest list, or show up to the bar at happy hour and hope they let me stay.

Yeah well on the TLG forum there are forum members being shut out. These are folk from out on the east coast not so much from out here. Yet!
Yes there are Leafers touring but it seems to be people going for a week or so of shows as TLG comes to their area.
My point is def. get there early or you will be one of quite a few I suspect that will be trying the approach you mentioned.

What\'s up dudes.  Tea Leaf Green is playing the Five Spot in Atlanta Georgia this Friday, and I will be in attendance.  The last TLG show there was sep. 05 and they played 3 full sets + encore.  Overall it was a solid, enjoyable, high energy, rockin show.  Granted, TLG is not as modern or progressive as the Breakfast, but they have an ultra tight rythym section, great lead guitar, and great vocal/ keys from Trevor Garrod.  My only criticism is the Josh Clark vocal songs like Tequila or Freedom seem to be slapped together like an Aerosmith B-side, but overall I like 90% of their music.

Also in Atlanta: Moe at the Fox Theatre on Saturday.  I\'m going to invest 60$ per seat from a ticket broker who is offering seats in the first 3 rows.  Should be a great music weekend here.

Well now I really must stress that alot of these shows will sell out on the east coast.

It has just been announced that TLG will be HEADLINING The Fillmore in SF on 4/7 w/ Aphrodesia opening.

Looks like it is a nice welcome home after this upcoming tour where they play everyday in March except Mondays.

So if anyone is thinking of seeing them I really suggest getting tix ahead of time.

Hey I am not in the band so no need for the repect angle.
As far as TLG goes fine you can think what you want.
They will continue to sell out venues w/o your money.
Overrated or not they are making it in a hard business and rock the hell outta my world.

For all the haters that call it a homo fest. I can count on my hands the amount of hot women @ a Breakfast show. You will lose count of them @ a TLG show.

.
You can roll over and tell greg not to get so uptight about me knockin\' his lights.
I just want the best for the band and that means he needs to step up like I know he can.

i haven\'t read the rest of this thread, so if this has already been said, I apologize: GREG HAS BEEN DOING A SICK ASS JOB on the lights. i don\'t really even know what this fight is about, so i\'ll stay out of it. but, greg, like i said, good job.

There is quite a buzz from east coast posters on the TLG board.
When they come back out in March be sure to get your tickets ahead of time and do it yourself.
I got shut out of last night\'s 14 Below show because I depended on someone saying they would pick up tickets and of course it sold out w/o him doing so.
Their tour closer last month in Chicago found over 30 people shut out and last nite there were about 15 of us in the rain pissed.
Do yourself a favor if you are thinking of going, get tickets. It sucks to get shut out. :(
