"Mr. Wilson"
By John Cale
velvet Undergound co-founder John Cale had a wonderful solo career, which lies between perfect pop music and the avante garde. "Mr. Wilson" is an example of his pop side. Off the album "Razzle Dazzle", "Mr Wilson" features Phil Manzanera of Roxy Music and Brian Eno.

Brand X
BRand X was Phil Collins\' fusion band in the late 70\'s/ early 80\'s. They rock, they\'re funky as hell. Enjoy.

PS
Don\'t let the Phil Collins involvement scare you away, this **** is the heat and he doesn\'t sing (even though I think his singing is spectacula,r I know that most people assume that Phil is a douche, which he\'s not ).

Boards of Canada
Boards of Canada has grown to become one of my favorite bands in the past 4 months. I can\'t believe I hadn\'t heard of them before. Some of the prettiest ambient, electronic, mindboggling music. This is off their latest album called "Campfire Headphase".

"It\'s Your Turn"
By Guru Guru
Kraut Rock, music derived in the German underground scene during the late 60\'s to early 80\'s, otherwise known as a past look into what music became or what could\'ve been. Guru Guru exemplified the Kraut Rock defintion by experimenting in psychedelic impriovisaitons, electronic downtempo grooves and jazz-rock. "It\'s Your Turn", is a combination of all three qualities that Guru Guru possessed. Enjoy...

Totally Dave, that groove is just too damn hypnotic. I definetly will be posting it in the near future for everyone to hear. For awhile Motor Booty Affair was impossible to find in stores. I finally tracked it down as an import and lo and behold a few months later they remastered and re-released the latter of the Parliament catalog!!

Mr. Wiggles
by
Parliament
One of my favorite Parliament songs, "Mr. Wiggles" is a unique example of layering as the song starts out with a funky ostinato bass line (which I learned how to play yesterday!!) and every few measures a new instrument is added and continues the same pattern of playing throughout the song. This has grown to be one of my favorite P-Funk songs. Recommended for lap dances.......Go wiggles

ahh, mr. wiggles.. off my personal favorite Parliament cd, Motor Booty Affair. though my favorite song would probably be Motor Booty Affair - definitely the darker side (if there is such a thing) of Parliament. great album.
-
ha. Well, I\'m enjoying (most :P ) of them Joe, so I say keep \'em coming.
-
People download it, which is why I continue to post them. I guess maybe I should change the thread title to "Joe\'s ONE and ONLY "Pimp My Song of the Day" Thread".

That\'s why it\'s Joe\'s Song Of The Day...

 Joe, have u realized that ur the only one posting on this thread yet? ;)

"Beat Box Guitar"
By Adrian Belew
This track is off Adrian Belew\'s (of Zappa, Davod Bowie, King Crimson fame) album "Side One", a three sided concept album, which will see completion in April with the release of Side Three. This song showcases the amphibious nature of Belew as he plays every instrument on the track. In my opinion the three Belew Side\'s are his "swan song".

"Sqaurer For Maude"
By
National Health
So I finally picked up National Health\'s first two studio albums, which are very difficult to come by. I laid down, put on my diesel headphones and was blown to heaven and back. I hate finding such incredible music because it pushes me to waste more money buying cd\'s. I need to buy like 4 shitty cd\'s in a row so I\'ll be content with what I already have and save up some money. Anyways, these guys were the unsung heroes of the Canterbury scene(at times Bill Bruford and Steve Hillage of Gong fame were band members). The best way to describe there music is by calliing it dreadfully human. I don\'t know, it taps into this raw enery source inside you and puts you on an emotional train ride. Everyone knew they were the **** best of the best, but due to poor business decisions and constant lineup changes they never **** opein into the mainstream. This is some of the best fusion ever made. Enjoy!!

"I\'ve Got It Bad, And That Ain\'t Good"
By
Keith Jarrett
Keith Jarrett is one of history\'s finest piano players. His virtuostic gift of fusing jazz and classical has made him one of America\'s finest musicians. This is a solo take on Duke Ellington\'s "Ive Got It Bad, And That Ain\'t Good". Oz fans will remember this song as performed by Tobias Beecher at the Oz talent show.

"True Companion"
By Donald Fagen
It\'s appropiate to post this song on the eve of the release of Donald Fagen\'s first solo album in over 10 years!!. "True Companion" can be found on the Heavy Metal soundtrack and also on Steely Dan\'s "Gold". I dig how it builds up, has a few vocals, then ends abruptly. Definetly an out of charachter Fagen song.

"Flight of the Newborn"
By Chick Corea and Return to Forever
A rocking number off their masterpiece "No Mystery". While it doesn\'t highlight Corea\'s proficient playing it gives you an idea of what style he has. I\'ll post more Corea songs tommorow... Dig Al DiMeola\'s solo and Clarke\'s deep bass groove. This is some sexy ****. Enjoy!!

Yeah Al I used to lower the pitch for most of his disco material and end up with some real funky beats. I always had a fun time experimenting with "A Song For the Children". I\'ve been meaning to pick up his earlier stuff, I absolutely love it! I just never come across his good stuff in stores.
I absolutely adored this album. It made for the best dance parties back in college!!

"Lusitanos"
By Weather Report
My favorite song of the Alphonso Johnson era of Weather Report. "Lusitanos" is probably Wayne Shorter\'s darkest compostion, yielding a bittersweet first half to a dark, envelope filter bass groove, packed with punchy sax lines. This soing also was a great resolution at the end, combining both the dark and bittersweet themes. Off the album Tale Spinnin\'.

Joe, did you ever check out any of the early 70\'s fusion of Lonnie Liston Smith?
-
Wow..... You have issues man.
-
Wow, he made it 7 days. That\'s as many days as "Joe\'s music recommendation thread" (4 days) and "Joe\'s TB news nucka" (3 days) COMBINED! But all 3 of these put together don\'t add up to the epic 21-day "Joe\'s TB review thread". That\'s 4 riveting threads Joe has dedicated to himself despite the fact the forum is loaded with threads about Breakfast news, Breakfast reviews, and other music recommendations. Maybe one day he\'ll actually start a thread that the rest of us inferior music fans are allowed to post in.
P.S. Joe, before you go off, the correct response from you is: "Yeah, you can break my balls for those threads, but I\'m really gonna make this one a good thread with a lot of cool music." Then you change the name of the thread to "Recommend your favorite music here!", tell everyone else how to post a song, and continue to post your songs in a non-condescending way. That\'s the right response.

I haven\'t been on top of my game lately. I\'ll post something today...
Mumps
by Hatfield and the North
My personal favorite Canterbury band. They\'re extremly jazzy, rocking while delivering it all with grace. This is their EPIC tune. If you guys like it I can upload another one. Not as hard as Caravan (though the main member of Caravan left to form Hatfield), but just as complex and wonderful. Like I said, a personal favorite.

Cool Blackie. Eno takes some time to "get", or maybe he\'s just more on the abstract, ,who knows? Yeah, you need to buy a full Nektar album in order to get the comparison. A lot has to do with psychedelia ala the earlier Floyd years and then the epicness. I\'ve talked to a lot of old timers and they agreed that Nektar owned Floyd back in the day, the only problem was, get this: "shitty management and distrubution deals" (kind of like another great band I know of). In fact Zappa approached Nektar when he was looking to rebirth the Mother of Inventions and asked them if they would serve as his band. They refused because they were too enamoured in their own career, which in retrospect seemed like the right thing to do. I mean, I dont know how different life would be without the Roxy Band, but I\'m sure this would be an alternate musical universe!!
-
Joe, i really enjoyed that Popol Vuh track, and that Nektar joint was pretty cool stuff, although im struggling to see where you would even make a comparison between them and floyd, aside from both bands using the same instruments? I was never a very big Brian Eno fan, and it seems fair to say that my feelings have not really changed there, but youre throwing out a nice variety of genres and styles there bro. If you want to talk classic late 60s early 70s soul/r&b, hit me up cuz thats what i mine for the days. keep em coming

"St. Elmo\'s Fire"
By
Brian Eno
Today\'s song is special. Brian Eno\'s "St. Elmo\'s Fire" just may be my favorite song of all time. The layering of sounds, lyrical imagery, tonal harmonies and the best guitar solo ever (by Robert Fripp) make this something indescribable, a musical force of universal proportions. I hope this song affects you the same way it has affected me:showing the beauty in beauty....

Two songs by Porcupine Tree off of "in Abenstia:!!
Porcupine Tree is probably the hottest band in the world, waiting to burst forth through the womb of popularity any second now. I don\'t know if the general American public is turned off by their "hard edge" or just havent been exposed to them, but these guys are unfucking real, a classic rock band making modern rock...
"Blackest Eyes"
by
Porcupine Tree
Gorgeous vocal harmonies (reminescent of CSN), dark, dark lyrics and a killer lead that makes you want to smoke some PCP, run around town naked and sell watermelons to old ladies in walkers...

Gorgeous vocal harmonies as nauseum, a killer hook and blunt lyrics about the state of today\'s music industry.

"Engel Der Gegenwart"
By Popol Vuh
A personal description about this album/song wouldnt do it justude so I\'m outsourcing it to Amazone.
Product Description
The soundtrack to Werner Herzog’s 1976 film is one of the true masterpieces from Popol Vuh. Coeur De Verre (Heart Of Glass) is based on traditional East Indian classical music and from there Florian Fricke takes the listener (viewer) on a slow and concentrated blissed out trip through the spiritual and emotional psyche of the human heart. Features Daniel Fichelscher (guitar & percussion), Alois Gromer (sitar) and Mattias Tippelskirch (flute). Sheer beauty and often citied as the finest of Popol Vuh’s works.
Popol Vuh was founded by mastermind Florian Fricke in Munich in 1970 and are known as pioneers of electronic music as well as the predecessors of the 90\'s ambient and trance genre. Florian Fricke was one of the first German musicians who worked with a MOOG III, an instrument which created a very new and special sound which was profiled on Affenstunde. This album quickly became a milestone and practically created a whole new genre. The name and the book Popol Vuh stems from Incan mythology and is the memory of the evolution of humanity. Florian Fricke doesn\'t like to catagorize his music; "Music is a form of law for me." He died on December 29, 2001 in Munich. Kraut Rock at the highest level made by, and for music fans !
All Popol Vuh re-releases are manufactured as high quality collector\'s series with stickers indicating the bonus tracks. The Digipak spines have a design and when all are put together they form one big picture.

"Tommorow Never Knows"
By 801
801 was a 70\'s supergroup formed by Roxy Music members Phil Manzanera and Brian Eno. The live disc they released is some of the best live music I\'ve ever had the pleasure of hearing. Tight, funky, rocking, ambient, you name it. Here is their version of "Tommorow Never Knows", a version I feel gives The Beatles a run of their money!!!

To celebrate the initial launch of Joe song of the day thread I have uploaded two songs to yousendit ( thinking abot keeping it a 2 fer Friday )
As always I encourage everyone to buy the albums. Below each description is a link to the album on Amazon or another website that offers it for a cheap price!
"Babs and Babs" by Daryl Hall
This 7 minute masterpiece was included on Daryl Hall and Robert Fripp\'s collaboration "Sacred Songs". "Babs and Babs" is the prizewinner off the album featuring a thick bass groove coupled with Hall\'s haunting soulful falsetto and the precise placement of Fripp\'s ripping solos and Frippertronics ( guitar>tape loops).

and the song:

"Marvellous Moses" by Nektar
I wanted to share the namesake of my handle with the Bort. Nektar IMO is better than Pink Floyd and most mainstream psych/prog bands of the 70\'s. "Marvellous Moses" is a cut off the concept album "Recycling". This is by far my favorite Nektar song and contains one of the strongest hooks/choruses I have encountered.
