In Africa I\'d look like a tribal leader!!!!
-
but it would certainly look funny.

Dancing in 19 is easy.....

"You try dancing in 19."
-Tim Palmieri
He makes a good point. But I\'d like to hear some Mahavishnu tunes from these guys, only because I know they could do them justice. Hopefully they\'ll break down and give us what we want.

I know my musical education basically began in earnest when I began listening to Jer and the Boyz.
I have received a lot of music education from seeing the band over the years (and also from you people). They don\'t have any excuses not to play Miles Beyond at local shows such as Daniel St., where the entire crowd wants to hear those tunes.
-
I know why it isn\'t played, but I wont divulge...
Then why post? That\'s just mean. :drew:
-
i have heard sylvia twice. once was at a toads doozie that they opened for leftover salmon and went on before the doors were supposed to open. another was at cafe zaquor in 2004. i guess they will play it if either no one is at the show or if everyone is so **** up that they don\'t know whats going on no matter what song is being played.
Heard it my 1st show and have been begging for it ever since!

Exactly... It\'s a poor copout!!
-
I\'m sorry I should\'ve been more specific. The general public doesnt know them, that\'s how he put it to me...
The reasoning that nobody knows the songs is a crappy reason.
I will tell you what.
If Trey thought that way the general listening public would have never heard some of the amazing covers that Phish played or GD for that matter. I know my musical education basically began in earnest when I began listening to Jer and the Boyz.

Tim is a Focus ****. You should see how jealous of Todd he was when I handed Todd the Focus VCD..... It was CLASSIC!!!
-
Hmm there are many other covers I could do without, and many covers I want back.... Tim really wants to bring back Sylvia, they just dont have the time to practice it. :(
I wonder if that has anything to do w/ me asking for Sylvia every show I attend?
Probably not.
-
I think we were all thinking that Joc... thanx for pointing it out.....
-
that just sucks for the general public then, they should listen to a band involving john mclaughlin and billy cobham cause they are true masters of their instruments.
Not to mention those two musicians are stylisticly (is that a word?) a great match for Tim and Adrian, respectively.... McLaughlin with his 10gazillion notes and Cobham with his out of control energy (and chops...)

Well just post threads asking for them to be played non-stop.. Stir up some noise!! I for one miss BOTH of those covers and would gladly trade Shakedown St and Fire on the Mountain for them anyday!!!!
since when does the breakfast play fire on the mountain?
:ducks:
3 times for psychedelic breakfast.
6/29/00

You\'re preaching to the choir my friend. I have spent the last few years ardently trying to expose people to fusion and progressive rock, BUT they just dont seem interested. At least this fanbase doesnt, the Umphrey\'s fanbase on the other hand ;)
I just think people have a lot of misconceptions about progressive rock and fusion (which are blanket terms, just like jamband), or people dont want to listen to better music or dont care.....
My thought:we\'re allowed only SO much time on Earth, why wasting it listening to mediocre music when you could be listening to GREAT music!!

I remember Tim saying something to the effect as to why they dont cover them, "no one knows those songs. We play covers to get the crowd going."
:(
At least us fusion heads have our drums and guitar fix...:)
I would say this is a dbl edge sword. Music afficianados (sp?) would instantly know them and it would be a pretty big deal to someone like myself to hear a band try to do it justice, but i understand what Tim means by the above.
-
yea they should cover bring some of those covers back, even if you dont know any mahavishnu songs when you see them being played i dont understand how you couldnt be amazed, i know the band is def capable of churning out a great cover of any of their songs...
-
they should cover anything off Inner Mounting Flame!

wish they still played em.. :(
-
damn i wish i saw them jam out those tunes live im sure they wer awesome...
-
The Breakfast has played "Hope" and "Miles Beyond" off of Birds of Fire. Tim and Adrian have also played "Miles Beyond" as well as "Be Happy" from Visions of the Emerald Beyond.
-
i know tim and adrian jammed a mahavishnu tune on one of those dvds they were handin out on new years... but i dont know what it was... it might have been from porters
-
I was just reading that one of their many influences is the great jazz improv group the mahavishnu orchestra, does anyone know if the breakfast have ever covered any of their songs live???
Miles Beyond, though it has been much too long since the last play. Can\'t think of any others off the top of my head.
