Title: For those that are not going to be out West(TLG content)
Post by: origen on February 03, 2006, 03:42:16 pm
I just saw Kimock with Robert Walters the other day and it was sick.  Kimock allowed Walters to play about 5 minutes worth of soloing over the course of the show, but let\'s face it we were there to see Kimock play.  Original music is way better than dead cover anyway.

And how does anybody hate TLG?  It\'s not that bad.

A. Bobby and the Midnites wasnt a **** jamband Leith, they were crotch rock. ANd I got a great Bobby and the Midnites song for you, "TOO MANY LOSERS"!!!!

Yeah, I know he has played with Kimock and the Other Ones, thats what I was referring to as the sad jambands. I\'m a huge Kimock fan, but Kimocks songs dont give **** for Alphonso to work with except for the standard generic jamband bass grooves.

The last time I saw Kimock play I felt he didn\'t give room for ANY of the other players to really do much. It was kind of annoying- it wasn\'t so much the composition of the songs- he played all over them. But in his sweet, pretty way of course. :P

Sad to hear him playing with "jambands", oh well, better than not hearing him at all :)
Hmm you find it sad. Well dude he has been playing w/ jambands for over 25 years.
He was a member of Bob Weir\'s band in the early 80\'s and also a part of The Other Ones in 2000.
Also played w/ Steve Kimock and Santana along the way.

I actually had both his solo albums on vinyl  (stupidly sold them along with the rest of my fusion greats), they weren\'t AMAZING, but they weren\'t anything to ignore.  I dont think they EVER existed on cd media....

The only time I saw JID was at Toads around 5 years ago. With Jimmy and Alphonso. Probably about 20 people in the place. One of the best shows I\'ve ever seen by anybody anywhere.

During the set break I bumped into Alphonso at the bar. He asked me how I thought it sounded. I said GREAT!. He said "really?" like he was really surprised. What a nice guy. And Jimmy after the show just hung out talking to everyone. Def some good folks there.

Edit: Referring to Jimmy. Joe beat me to posting so I wanted to clarify.

I would like Herring and Pevar.... Cobahm and Johnson back in the mix....
I hate Blues For Allah, (cept for Help>slip and Sage and Spirit), would rather hear them cover Red Baron for 2 hours...

Its hot regardless what Leith says....
featuring...
-Jeff Pevar (Crosby, Stills & Nash/Phil & Friends)
-T Lavitz (Dixie Dregs/Widespread Panic)
-Jeff Sipe (Phil & Friends/Aquarium Rescue Unit)
-Dave Livolsi (John Scofield Band/Tower of Power)
-Tom Constanton (original Dead keyboardist)
I would rather see them w/ Jimmy than Jeff and hear something other than Blues For Allah again that\'s all.
Oh and Cobham over Sipe.
No doubt about it, Jimmy makes that band.

I\'ll be seeing some TLG, per usual.

They have some NYC dates lined up as well.
Yeah I think 2 nights in a row @ The Knitting Factory w/ U- Melt opening near the beginning of the month.
They really seem to kill in NYC so if ya get a chance.

Leith have you seen Broken Social Scene yet?  Now THERE is a real band buddy!!
No but I read a blurb on Live Music Blog that really pushed them so I think I will be checking them out.
Oh as a matter of fact they are on Conan tonight!
Enough w/ the hijacking though.

If anyone is not doing anything on the dates in the first post, I really suggest going to see TLG. If only to accumulate ammo to shoot me down with.;)

LOL
Little Feat has sucked for the past 15 years and Jazz is Dead is played out. Doing Blues For Allah AGAIN!!!!!!!!!

I do have to agree that I have not been impressed with anything Little Feat has done recently... 15 years might be extreme but.. yeah they\'re aren\'t something to go crazy about these days.

Tea Leaf Green the best band this side of the Rockies is coming into Bfast territory.
They are playing a bunch of dates out East in March but these 2 seem to be closest to most of you.
Mar-15-06 Northampton, MA @ Iron Horse
Mar-19-06 New Haven, CT @ Toad\'s Place
