Seeing Ornette play w/ Tim would be sick.
Maybe as sick as Jerry and Ornette jamming was.

Enough "jam bands" are experimenting with horns lately. I think I\'d be pretty dissapointed if I showed up to a B-Fast show and had to listen to horns instead of the heady jams and sick funk I\'ve grown to love more and more with every show...

Right because horns are never involved in heady jams and sick funk.

When I think of funk I think of horns most of the time. And then I think, man, I wish more bands could play horns without feeling like they have to play funk. he he

Depends on your definition of "heady" ;)

Personally I\'ll go see a Fungus Amungus show (which I won\'t unless I happen to wander by their tent at a festival) if I want to listen to horns. I really don\'t think adding more instruments to the lineup is gonna make Breakfast any better.

I guess I am biased against the sound of horns trying to compliment a sick guitar jam.

I dunno, why mess with a good thing?

Gladys Pimp with horns... sounds terrible to me. What horn player can keep up with Timmy playing at full tilt anyway?

There are plenty but I think it would be impossible to get ost of them to play with a band like ther Breakfast. No offense meant to the breakfast at all; it\'s just two different worlds that are unlikely to merge.

I agree about messing with a good thing. I don\'t think horns are really agreat idea at all. I was just saying, if it WAS going to be done...

I see a couple bands with horns.

Yeah me too.

rotfl rotfl rotfl

If I were to hear Breakfast with horns I would prefer edgier, more broken up, less melodic playing than I have heard from Breakfast horn attempts in the past. I don\'t like the floaty predictable stuff I have heard in the past.

The horns on Score (I believe) on Real Radio, for example, don\'t do it for me at all and I think alost detract from the band\'s playing. That type of horn playing actually sucks out energy instead of adding it.

I see a couple bands with horns. This chic that plays with Scott M from MaxCreek plays in a side project band (the Depth Quartet). this chic plays the alto, tenor, flute and something else (no not at the same time) through pedals. i think the spacey **** she plays would be kind of freaky in a silly synth out jam. and the other person plays in Fungus Amungus one with a peddle set up and another with out. there are a couple bands up here with horns.

You can\'t toot your horn in your own cube? Poor Guy.

(disclaimer for moderators) Sorry for contributing to the overthrowing of the Breakfast Horns thread as it becomes the Spacey and Joe employment thread, though I\'m curious to know what you\'re doing in a cube on a Saturday.  Must either be something urgent or customer service oriented that requires round-the-clock staffing.

1) My thread, my rules!

2) Not customer service, but I will PM

I have a connection to the Fowler brothers......

Pretty much the only horn section that would do TB justice would be Zappa\'s 88 band. I say 88 and NOT Roxy because the Roxy band actually were VERY, VERY quiet, contrary to popular belief. We need a loud raucous horn section for the boys... I\'ll get on the horn and try to wrassle these old fogies down to CT. We can literally have a "Best Band You Never Heard In Your Life" show, videotape it and sell it as The Breakfast DVD.

The diesel experiment Junk included a Spunk with sax.  I like the idea, I just don\'t know if we could get all the horn players from all of Zappas bands to sit in for a show!

i think horns could/will eventually be really cool. it might seem like there isn\'t enough room for horns in the already busy music of the bfast, but i highly doubt the band would play like they normally do. they would make room. tim could trade solos with a ser sax/trumpet player. i\'ve heard funky breakfast jams where there would definstely be room for horns. i\'d like to hear WTF, gladys would be interesting, honeybutter?, Merge, the chase, taboot, and obviously score!

oh yeah and spunk!

Breakfast can barely get their sound levels normal as it is, imagine horns trying to play over Timmy and Drian.  Plus I just dont hear any horns in my head when I think of a Breakfast song.  When I first started listening to Phish I had horn charts in my head, and that was before i knew about GCH. Breakfast just doesnt have the musical blueprints for horns...
...just to play devils advocate... are you like some kinda of super genius music producer.  Or is it possible that some musical vision exists out there that\'s beyond your scope of musical possibility?

I often wonder what a few of the Breakfast tunes would sound like with a funky horn section. Does anyone else have this?

I personally would like to see Buquebus, Rufus, Score, FBCC, Gladys Pimp and Kangaroos With Me, May Fly Disarray, Gravity, GBFBITS, Hard Luck Harry, Inner Glimpse, LDZ, Phaddy Boom Baddy, Taboo Or Not Taboot, No Regret, Superfly Phaddy Fat, What The Funk? with horns.

Some of them definitely might not work but some of them could definitely work.

Just some boredom at work that I am trying to fill.

Discuss...

Also, you can add covers to the list that you would like to hear with horns.
