Title: Do Opposites really attract?

There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something more bizarrely inexplicable.

There is another theory which states that this has already happened.

Don\'t ask Paul Ryan questions like that.  I mean we really shouldn\'t even be talking about this.  If we ask questions the terrorists win.  :sarcasm:

this is a question that will riddle the Chinese civilization for centuries and empires. you are now placed right behind the ancient question, "if a tree fall in the forest, and no one is around to hear it, does it make sound?"

or "how many licks does it take to get to the center of a toostie pop?"

are you talking from experience? or have you heard this fable once before?

Never licked a tootsie pop, usually just bite and wait for that cracking noise.

Things a person must have in common:

Love of Breakfast
Love of Sex

Thread closed ;)

I agree with the Love of Sex! Anyway, I enjoyed my last girlfriend....we were pretty much opposites, but I liked it. I learned things from her that I might never have even thought to consider. I enjoyed going off to shows alone and not feeling like I had to make sure she was OK..thats just one example....my point is..Yes..If you feel connected, then go for it! Not everyone is into the samething...just like humans do not look identical....its what makes life FUN!!!

plain and simple, yes, but i think this is an oversimplified way of looking at it.

there is grey area here.  not so black and white.

i believe that love is one of those unexplainable things that goes far deeper than the human drama we create in this world.  therefore yes, a couple can seem to have very little in common but still be very much in love.

^my 2 sense.

Wait...Zurflue cannot even watch soft-core ****?  Leith, if you and Zurf are happy, like Fred said ...GO FOR IT!  I mean you do live close and it is Cali...you should be able to make it work.  You guys could move to San Fran and be happy, course you\'ll never see the Breakfast unless you move to CT or upstate NY, but what the hell...at least Me, Steve and Freddie would be far away from you;)  Plus there are always people on the steps of 710 Haight St "smokin\' joints", you guys would just be "smokin\'" a different kind.:)

slim = wrong person to give relationship advise.

now that I got that outta the way.

I don\'t think its an all or nothing kinda thing, but certain things are tough to get around.  I know plenty of folks on opposite ends of the political spectrum that have very successful marriages.

But your not gonna get around the fact that you dig S&M and your significant other blushes at the mention of softcore.  In the long run, that\'ll catch up to ya.

personally i don\'t know if i should give advise, those that have talked to me recently might agree. But given my present situation i would say, if you want it to work you\'ll have to sacrifice but don\'t do it if your partner isn\'t going to do the same. and no matter what anybody says you can\'t change otherwise you wouldn\'t be you anymore. Sacrifice isn\'t bad until it starts to compromise who you are and what you like to do. differences are good but like it was said before you need common ground in order for everything to be harmonious. there are plenty of fishes in the sea. oh and unadulterated honesty is the only way to make the other person know what you really want, don\'t sugar coat it woman see right through that ****. if they can\'t take you for who you are or how you think and feel then ****\'m. my 2 1/2 cents. but don\'t listen to me

If you can find no common ground it isn\'t gonna last. It is great to have differeing opinions but if there is no neutral ground to agree on or the argreement to disagree isn\'t met, you will end up loathing the person.

Fred that is one of the funniest posts I have seen for a while. Then again, I haven\'t really seen many posts in a while, so...

Leith I think it can work. But keep in mind that for something to work long-term you guys are probably going to have to have similarities in lifestyle, or what the hell are you going to DO all of the time?

Differing views may be easier to work with than differences in how you like to spend your time.

However I can say that constant clashes in opinion are fun and challenging at first but eventually can get exhausting if the two individuals don\'t know when to hang it up. (But since you are not at all stubborn Leith I\'m sure you wouldn\'t have this problem. ;) )

I guess the key is balance, as always.

If your mate isn\'t into your lifestyle (music, politics, nightime activities) it\'s not gonna work. IMO

Now never say never If you work hard enough and you care enough about the other person, yes it can but it\'s gonna be hard

Can a relationship in which the 2 people differ in just about every viewpoint last?

You enjoy their company and the physical attraction is there but when it comes to politics, music, religion etc. your views are total opposites.

Being w/ someone that shares all your views is boring but can the constant conflict of views be too much?

Discuss please.
