I was @ the NYE show and had an incredible time.
Glad to hear it was worth the $1800+ price of admission;)
I had an incredible time AT the show but after.......

John Mayer Trio can rip **** UP!!!!!!!!! They can also play musically solid but Boring ****. He DID NOT play the Hendrix tribute and did not play w/ Phil and Friends. Based on what I heard, I would not pay to see the Trio alone but would most def. check them out in a fest or on a good bill. I think it was B.S. for them to advertise the Hendrix tribute. As for the Phil show. I had a freakin\' blast. I was totally amazed by Ryan and totally loved what he brought to the mix. Here is my post from yesterday on Tooboard :

I thought other than the lyrical screw-ups Ryan kicked ass. He even jokingly put his hand up to his head in the shape of a gun and shot it after screwing up Ripple.
He knew he **** up and who can name a show they went to where lyrics were not screwed up by Jer or Bob.
Hypocrites!!!!!!!!
Ryan smoked those songs musically and when he DID hit the lyrics he killed it!
I did not hear boos neither did I see people leaving in droves other than the folk there only for Mayer and realizing he would not be playing in the after midnight set.
Phil AND his friends kick ass.
I hope Phil\'s "True Brother" sticks around.
Now all the haters can stick it as Phil has given some insight to the idiocy.

I\'ll definitely be interested in hearing the JMT trinute set. There are many of songs that I really like from the Band of Gypsys.
I heard prior to the Utica discussion about John Mayer. I believe it was in a magazine and may have been reiterated by Wah, not sure.
But if the dude can shred then he is worth the listen.

thanks leith for postin this, cause i bore witness to the jmt and it was way beyond anything i could have imagined. He really is a sick guitar player. People are goin to be blown away when they finally give this guy a chance... mark my words
If the guy didn\'t make wimpy-ass hits for the radio and took his talent into the studio with the venegeance of T.Palms on guitar, more of the masses wouldn\'t dismiss him as garbage.
My impressions of him are pretty bad.

Funny because I actually posted this FOR you on the chance you might peruse the board. I will most def. be early for this set. After hearing you talk abt them in Utica latenite I was stoked to be seeing them AND then to hear they are gonna pull off a Jimi tribute....

John Mayer Trio will reassemble in San Francisco to play a string of 3 dates with Phil Lesh and Friends on December 29, 30 and 31. The first two shows will be similar to the sets that were performed on the Trio\'s fall tour, with the third being a song-by-song tribute to the classic 1969 New Year\'s Eve performance by Jimi Hendrix\'s Band of Gypsys.
Not sure but most likely the tribute will follow the more widely known album Band Of Gypsys:

John is then going to join P&F for the 2nd set.
I am very interested to hear the Jimi Tribute. When not playing Pop, John can shred the guitar. His trio is pretty damn good also.
