I can\'t compare the two since I don\'t have both, but I know people who have switched to Sirius from XM and not the other way around. Yes, Sirius has NFL, NBA, NHL, and lots of college football and basketball, basically everything but MLB. I got it just in time for last year\'s NCAA basketball tourney and it was great, they had all 65 games. They both have very similar channel listings. As far as jam stations go, I\'ve never heard King Crimson or Genesis on Sirius JamOn. JamOn plays too much Panic, Cheese, moe., and Allman Brothers, but at least there\'s no doubt that those are jambands. They get everyone else in there too, even The Breakfast. And they play a live set of Phish every night at 7PM which I\'ve become a devoted listener to.
There is no doubt though, the more remote your location, the better it will come in. It\'s not beamed from towers that you have to be close to like cell phone service. It comes straight down from a satellite. The only things that can mess it up are tunnels, very tall buildings, and if every radio station has a station on it already leaving you nowhere to receive it. If you live in Montana, none of these will be a problem.
although this doesnt really affect me since niether of them are on the radio in bumblefuck montana
Another beautiful fact about Satellite Radio: The more bumblefucked your location, the better Satellite radio comes in. Time for you to get Sirius!
is that really true? if so now i only have to decide which one to get. they are both almost equal on amount of channels (xm has like 25 more) but sirius has stern starting on jan. 9th. xm has opie and anthony, who are shockjocks from across the river in rockland or orange county maybe? with xm you get every game of mlb, spring training through world series, and sirius you get every nfl game throughout the season. both at 12.95 a month, i think i would end up gettin the sirius so i can hear unadulterated stern.

whoa. yikes. Look what happens when you don\'t type anything for days and days. I have to get back into this gently, folks. Bear with me.

Can\'t stand Stern anymore. His show is way too redundant. Same old **** all the time, lesbians, midgets, etc. Funny sometimes but gets old. I also don\'t think Robyn is very funny at all. She doesn\'t do much.
I do like Imus and his grumpiness. I also think he\'s a pretty good guy, unless the deal with that woman is true. Who knows. Anyhow I find him entertaining although a bit annoying sometimes.
I\'m an O\'Reilly fan myself. Oh my god yes I said it. Leith don\'t go crazy on me here. ;) I never said I agreeded with him, I just like his show. LOVED that **** Jay Severeign\'s show... wish it hadn\'t gone off the air due to contract issues. He is great. Such a smart man, and quite the wordsmith, not to mention he\'s a real bastard which makes for great listening.
wait, did you just say agreeded? ;)

I have XM and I love it. My only complaint is that their "jamband" station plays too much Prog rock. I wish they would seperate the two cause I\'m not a fan of early Genesis or King Crimson. But I do enjoy the XM NPR and the Comedy stations.

Now how can you not like Stern who is very upfront about his ludeness yet like a guy that is obviously a slimeball misogynist hiding behind the facade of being the voice of the "moral majority".
I\'ll give you that Stern is watered down but that was due to FCC interference. With the move to Sirius I think the Stern most of us remember will return in full force. God help us if Fartman ever returns!

I have called them about 20 times and requested they play something off of deuce, but i have yet to hear anything other than Bona Fide tracks.
Everyone who has Sirius should give a call and ask them to expand on their breakfast menu...or even if you don?t.
1-877-33-SIRIUS...I think
channel 17

i have serious at work, and theyre always playing \'Hot Lanta\' from Bonafide on the jamband station. Man, of all the songs they could chose from? how do we stop this?

i love when they come back from commercial, and imus has no clue they\'re back, and there\'s just dead air.. bernie: \'hey... hey dickhead... yo! penisbreath....\'
definitely makes the first few hours of work go by faster..
-
Which Doesn\'t Belong And Whyyyyy?!!!
have you ever heard bernards impression of Mya Angelou?
"I said 2 egg mcmuffins ya dumb white ****!!"
-

whoops.. my bad.. i actually didn\'t even know bartlett did any of those until the first time i caught the show on msnbc..
some people think that Imus going to MSNBC has ruined him, but I think that having those guys, "get into character" adds a lot. Barletts B. Wilson impression slays me.
"Hi Opey!"

i\'ve been listening to imus daily for about 7 years now. love it. it\'s not just imus that makes the show great, it\'s everyone else he has with him.. Rob Bartlett is on daily as Brian Wilson, Dr. Phil, Jack Nicholson, and more.. Bernard McGuirk is probably the funniest on the show.. his Cardinal Eagan bit is absolutely hilarious.. have a listen:
http://wfan.com/imusinstantreplay/local_audioclip_321101456.html
imus also has a wide variety of guests on, and is a great interviewer... i also like the fact that when i\'m home on fridays, i can catch the show on msnbc..
Barlett doesn\'t do Nicholson or Kennedy, Larry Kenny does them. Kenny is not as quick @ improv as Barlett, but his impressions are dead on. I think McCord does most of the writing for Kenny.
As thanksgiving approaches, I eagerly await the appearance of Wilfred Brimley and his ongoing love affair with turkey and stuffing.

In the afternoons, I listen to another local, Michael Savage.
.
too each his own, but this guy makes me want to tear my ears off.
-
I really enjoy the IMUS show. Been listening to him since I was knee high to a grasshopper. It\'s a nice mix of politics and comedy. Rob Barlette is definitely a comedy genius. Plus the crotchetty ol\'man Imus routine fits right into my own vailed disgust for most of what I see around me every day.

I hope the Breakfast never plays Inca Roads!
well, your safe cause it aint gonna happen. :P

My prediction: Mamalakabubadaya is a major fan.
you better believe it!! i am a huge stern fan and have been for years. "Mamalakabubadaya" is from the morning traffic report scene in Private Parts-classic movie!! as much of an egotistical jackass stern can be, i have always had such respect for him and loved his radio show when i lived in ny, love his tv show-gotta love baba booey, beetlejuice, robyn, the list goes on.
i never really listened to imus much, the level of his being a dick didn\'t match/outweigh his humor, IMO.

-
much like in the baseball thread, your opinion doesn\'t count, cardinals fan. ;)
-
Can\'t stand either one.
-
I really cant stand IMUS but Bob and Tom are the worst! All they fuckin do is laugh, someone says something not even close to funny and the room explodes with like 10 peeps ROLFL. Stern rules. I listen to 3 hours daily. Great wake up call./
-
Ive been a Stern fan for like 15 years now... At least since 89.... He is the best.. Hands down !!!
Imus is so bad.. He is an old man... Not funny at all.. If I want the news I can turn on cnn.... I like gosip and celebrity stuff and current events not dry political talk.. Especially in the morning...
You know your getting old when you listen to Imus or as I call him Anus....
Bean

while your intitled to your opinions, I gotta agree with the moe.ron on this one. Imus is horrible. I can\'t stand him.
I like stern but never get to hear him. I work 4a-noon and can\'t have a radio, so I miss him. I\'m always asleep by the time E! comes on. I occasionally catch him on mondays when I\'m off, but thats it.
say it ain\'t so devo!
-
imus sucks!!!
-
i listened to Stern on the radio for my entire 2 hour cab ride to LAX a couple weeks ago. it was interesting. stern has always **** me up and its been awhile since ive given him a listen. he had joe frazier on. although most of the time the cab driver and i were cracking up, there were a few moments we looked at each other in amazement at his total disregard for respect. i mean, i know thats how he makes his living, but when he says **** like, "muhammad ali is probably going to die in the next 4 months... are you going to go to his funeral?... for all the horrible things the man said to you, joe, you should bring the sexiest woman you could pay for and have sex on his casket with her... and say hi to ali\'s wife while doing it." ill still listen to him when its on, and yeah, its still real entertaining. its just sometimes you wonder how someone can deliver such crazy talk with such confidence.. it blows my mind.
-
imus is great, he is on msnbc at like 5:30 in the morning. i forgot that savage is san fran, he is probably the best serious radio show in the country, imo.
-
Sounds like I should check out Imus. I\'m surprised that I\'ve never heard his show, though Stern definitely gets more publicity. To be honest, I don\'t think I knew much about him till I stumbled upon Private Parts.
-
i gotta say i liked imus a bit more, rob bartlett is friggin hilarious, the grizzeled old imus is great, i used to work like five mins from his studio in queens, silver cup studios i believe now he is in jersey. i still love howard but imus is the man, even if he did that **** to the woman who worked at his ranch or whatever. as for michael savage i used to listen to him too, 6-9 in ny i think. i forgot about him since ive been out here and i cant find him or rush or anybody to listen to, its all country stations and ****. are any of the other guys (imus savage rush) on satellite because if they are i may have to make a purchase.
-
So im sure most of you know that howard stern is moving to sirius satelitte radio, he has a channel that is completly news about him, as soon as his show ends they start with news about the people on the show and **** like that. when i worked in the city it was a ritual to switch between him and imus (don imus of imus in the morning) every morning. although this doesnt really affect me since niether of them are on the radio in bumblefuck montana, i was just wondering if anybody actually listens to the radio anymore. the only reason i start this thread is because he is on david letterman right now. i totally forgot how funny the crazy egomaniac is, let me know what you guys think.
I do really like Stern\'s show, though I have been listening to a couple local guys (Armstrong & Getty) on my 12 minute ride to work. In the afternoons, I listen to another local, Michael Savage.
I\'ve never actually heard Imus, though I believe he is Peck\'s cup of tea.
Good thread - it serves as a reminder that I haven\'t heard Howard in a long time. Time to set my dial.
My prediction: Mamalakabubadaya is a major fan.
