Yeah and cripes look at the dresses those poor girls were wearing. I think I may have worn a dress like that when I was like 6 and was going to see the nutrcracker... but some of those girls look pretty old and when they show up for college wearig one of those dresses...
;)
I saw a movie once where a girl had a dress like that and everyone made fun of her:

Holly I truely have no idea, but I bet playdates could be pretty wild.
-
i wasn\'t trying to crack on home schooling as a whole, i have friends that have been homeschooled and they are the same as any other kid--but it seems like everything this family does is family oriented. how do you have a playdate with someone who has another 15 siblings around when you guys are trying to have fun? or what about a sleep over? what happens if the buddy system is broken because one kid wants to go to a movie with a friend? is that even possible in the household??
-
I think homeschooling can be great as long as the kids have plenty of exposure to social situations with other kids.
A lot of homeschoolers have no problems with this because they seem to all be in some sort of homeschooling "network."
No factory education? I\'m all for that idea. It just has to be done right. And I think it just so happens that a lot of the people who decide to homeschool their kids tend to be religious fanatics or overly protective parents, or both. It\'s really too bad.
-
the thing is, i think they know that and do it on purpose, as in, is it so bad that we\'re depriving our kids of "exposure" to the rest of society, that they may never learn about sex, drugs, and rock and roll... will they actually be less happy for what they dont know or will what they dont know not hurt them? i know a lot of people that homeschool, it seems to be some sort of underground movement lately, and their reasons are pretty much that and also "custom tailored" education. yah its a little creepy in 2005. im not sure its necessarily bad. i for one could never tolerate having my 4th grader home all day, as i cant wait for that bus to come in the morning, but those mothers are different. they make this their whole life. they want nothing more than to be with their kids all the time forever.

On a side note, my little brother was homeschooled for the last 2 years of high school and I really wish I had done the same.

as much as this is a part of her religious beliefs, i can\'t help but find it eerie, selfish and irresponsible fora parent to do this. i am #2 in a family of 4 daughters and that\'s enough. not that having 3 sisters took away from my childhood at all, but there is always competition between siblings for attention/love from parents. the fact that these kids have the responsibilities of basically being babysitters to their younger brothers and sisters at such a young age along with them being home schooled (that just adds to the strangeness of this family), they must end up having such a deprived upbringing.
-
they had the whole family on good day at like 7 this morning. they interviewed the oldest one aout the "buddy system" where an older kids is responsible for a younger one, right down to the homeschooling. good that theyre not leeching off society so much as, for example, that couple that had septuplets who are all special education at over $80K/yr/kid, but the older kids wont have any childhood of their own! matt\'s mother is the oldest of 8 and she still resents her mother for making her take care of so many kids!
one thing i dont get about all these jesus freaks who feel its their duty to overpopulate the planet, is why dont they at least give natures best birth control a shot- breastfeed! statistically when a woman breastfeeds exclusively for 6-12 mo and continues up to 2yrs, her chances of delivering another baby in those 2yrs is less than 2%. so this lady could have ended up with only 1/2 as many kids that way! or maybe shes just some sort of fertility goddess, since i cant see how anyone could afford to bottlefeed 16 babies.

Yeah my dad is from a family of 7 and he still eats his food like he is terrified someone is going to grab it right off his plate. I have never seen anyone eat so fast. I guess if you wanted more you had to finish fast before everything was all gone.
I do that too, but im just a fat boy

Paul you didn\'t need to defend her because I wasn\'t REALLY attacking her. I was just saying what her logic was, and then leaving it to you guys to make whatever you wanted of said logic. As a matter of fact, I don\'t even think I mentioned what religion she was, did I? Maybe I did. I\'ll have to go back and check that out.
Wowsers that video is something. I really get a kick out of the father\'s name: Jim Bob.
Really cute kids though. I love near the end of the video when one of the little ones comes out from behind them all and just takes off with the cute little peanut run they have at that age.
-
i can\'t get the link to the video to post in here, but go to http://www.cnn.com/ (http://www.cnn.com) and click on the "watch 16 kids, 2 bathrooms; mom explains the math" link and take a look at this clip...these people are nuts, i feel horrible for these kids.

The mother also believed it was her "duty to god" to keep having babies.
In defense, this is a valid argument according to many religions. Almost all religions taught to have as many children as possible. Exceptions are with secs like shakers and the sec of jews that left the dead sea scrolls, both of which didn\'t believe in sex per say and died out within a few generations. There were multiple reasons for having that many kids:
1. labor force for your fields
2. Most children died due to the poor health conditions before growing up, as well as the average age at time of death being between 25 and 40 depending on your generation up through the 18th century.
3. Most societies passed down ownership to the first born son, so if you keep having girls, keep trying. This used to cause huge debates when you had multiple wives - if you have 2 wives who each gave you a son, which one is entitled? Exception: ancient natives of India where family was traced on the mothers side and first born daughter.
That all being said, modern science and health services have pretty much debunked all these arguments. However, if dogma has taught us anything, it\'s that people will believe scripture based on blind faith irregardless of what evidence is presented against it. To each there own, just don\'t look to me to pay for your child services when you can\'t afford it.

My dad is from a family of 9 kids, and he\'s number 5 (smack dab middle). Family reunions are heinous - I have 33 first cousins and 10 second cousins. I cannot keep track. And that\'s just my DAD\'S side!
per usual midwestern family

and the kids decided it was a good idea to serve pancakes, bacon, eggs, etc. The aunt was so upset by this that she called child services.
In comparison to what most families feed their children these days, I think bacon and eggs would be a very healthy alternative.
I hope you father still encourages a bowl of cereal as a midnight snack... or at least a bowl of something. :)

wait til the holidays come when they all grow up. this kid russell i knew in high school had 9 older siblings and they were all between ages 20-35 and almost all of them were married with multiple children of their own!!! A couple of my buddies went to his house for thanksgiving dinner, and told me there mustve been 40 people there in just the immediate family.
-
my ex was from a family of 9 (plus one that died young). the dynamics of those huge families are just INSANE.

Funny story about their family... my dad\'s parents died when they were really young and the oldest kids were old enough to legally take care of their siblings. One night their aunt and uncle came over for dinner, and the kids decided it was a good idea to serve pancakes, bacon, eggs, etc. The aunt was so upset by this that she called child services.

Now that you put it that way. It isn\'t such a bad business idea.
No kidding, it\'s gotta beat the re-estate in Little Rock

The Learning Channel is doing another show about the family\'s construction project, a 7,000-square foot house that should be finished before Christmas. The home, which the family has been building for two years, will have nine bathrooms, dormitory-style bedrooms for the girls and boys, a commercial kitchen, four washing machines and four dryers.
They failed mention the basement set up with 18 sewing machines and their new business fabricating soccer balls for ebay... sweat factory anyone?
i cant say i know ya,but i can say i like ya..

Rain is a gift from God as well... but when we get too much of it we wear our rubbers!
This woman will put her self into a comma if she has many more! She won\'t even be able to enjoy all the tax write-offs they\'re recieving.
I say stop while you still have a chance to pay attention to at least one of your children. This is how bad parenting comes into play...

that just proves that she\'s not mentally right.

She is just under the average of 1 child a year. She\'s been doing this since she was 21. My question is about the budget. How the hell do you afford this? They should live on a farm and work the land.

There was a family who lived up the street from me growing up that had 10 kids. There was another one as well which died as a baby; if you asked the kids how many of them there were, they would say "10 plus the dead one." !

This family is semi-famous for doing this. I remember seeing a PBS or other TV channel special about them
They have like a Bus they truck the family around in etc. All the older kids take care of the younger ones etc. They live a **** small house as well. They had all these elaborate schedules for when they could shower and stuff like that because there is so many of them lioving in that small house.
I think they may even all be home schooled as well. They are mormons if I remember correctly

What do you think this guy is thinking about right now?
"How the hell could I get myself into this mess. Oh, boy, I worked my entire life to take care of 16 ungrateful children. Damn ****, these kids can\'t be all mine!"
Just the beginning to a story we\'ll see on Cold Case Files.

Mom delivers 16th child, thinking of more
LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas (AP) -- Michelle Duggar just delivered her 16th child, and she\'s already thinking about doing it again.
Johannah Faith Duggar was born at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday and weighed 7 pounds, 6.5 ounces.
The baby\'s father, Jim Bob Duggar, a former state representative, said Wednesday that mother and child were doing well.
He said Johannah\'s birth was especially exciting because it was the first time in eight years the family has had a girl.
Jim Bob Duggar, 40, said he and Michelle, 39, want more children.
"We both just love children and we consider each a blessing from the Lord. I have asked Michelle if she wants more and she said yes, if the Lord wants to give us some she will accept them," he said.
The Discovery Health Channel filmed Johannah\'s birth and plans to air a show about the family of 18 next May.
Jim Bob Duggar, who sells real estate, previously lost his bid for the U.S. Senate. He said he expects to run for the state Senate next year but isn\'t ready to make a formal announcement.
Michelle Duggar had her first child at age 21, four years after the couple married.
