i let a few people in the side door that couldn\'t get in through the front. i had to do it the last time i was at harpers in september or whenever that show was. if they aren\'t going to let people in who are willing to pay money, i am just going to let them in for free.

i got my first leather biker jacket at a gwar show. dude stated stumbling off, and i hollered, \'hey dude, your jacket\' he unfocusedly looked back at me and said \'fuggid...\' which i translated as \'why sure, jason, enjoy my jacket until someday i see you on the street wearing it and beat you down.\' he never did reclaim it.... :lol:
gencs~its tons of fun, in a spectacle kind of way. you\'ve truly never seen anything like a gwar show. their musicianship isn\'t bad, but the theatrics of it all make it totally worthwhile! (but i may be biased, since their practice space was about 100 feet from where i lived in richmond for a while)

from what i\'ve heard they chop off their puppet costume arms an other appendiges and then spray tens of gallons of fake blood onto the crowd. as well as spit on them, any band that transfers bodily fluids other than sweat onto the crowd does not interest me. but thats just me......

hey hey, lets not condemn **** in general. thats not what its about. old school new york **** was about unity and friendship and about channelling one\'s aggression into music rather than negative behavior, but then again it all depends on what band you\'re listening to. somewhere along the line someone got the idea that **** was about violence, and this silly idea ended up with a lot of really bad bands preaching some really **** up stuff. but originally, a lot of **** carried a positive message, thats what got me into it in the first place.

In particular...stay far away from any Boston clubs that host hardcorw bands.
A few years ago Mighty Purple was attacked twice by **** gangs at the Rat...once during their show, once when they were packing the van. There is a loosly knit group that puts out videos called The Boston Beatdown chronicling mayhem with out of town bands.
Boston has some very deep issues regarding race and class, and it sometimes vents these diffences through violence in the scene.
If you see this stuff...get away from it, these people are lunatics.
the boston **** scene is definitly crazy. i remember leaving a Converge/American Nightmare show in boston having lost a huge amount of hope for humanity. the show was just rediculous. you\'d make eye contact with a person and they\'d run at you and slam their shoulder into your gut or maybe kick you in the face. too much for me, let me tell you...

harper\'s new management is being shitty. they\'re used to dealing with dumbass BU kids and i think they just assume that everyone is a dumbass college kid and discriminate.
i had two friends kicked out for underaged drinking at rane shows a few years ago, and someone kicked out for knocking a bunch of **** over on his way outside to smoke a cig when he couldn\'t even stand up .... but i\'ve heard more stories about people being kicked out of there in the last 2 months than i\'ve heard of the entire 5 years i\'ve been in boston and hitting shows there.
and all of them for stupid reasons too, i can understand the underaged drinking and when my buddy literally couldn\'t stand up as he was walking out of the bar a few years ago... but this is just ridiculous.
and it\'s not like they\'re kicking out the dumbass drunk broke college kids (no offense to any of you) but they\'re kicking out older people who aren\'t even **** up, who spend mad $ there, and it\'s really starting to **** off the show going crowd.
and it sucks that it\'s one of the few decent sized venues that books good music in boston. you\'ve got that, the middle east, and the paradise...

Holly, I can understand why you\'re upset. It\'s age discrimination and it sucks. It happens to all of us. One time Al Z and I and three carloads of UMass kids all under 21 drove 2.5 hours to a show at Plymouth State. But the kids there who were doing the show didn\'t secure a room, so the band had to drive around town asking bars if they could play for the night. So there we are following around the band from bar to bar. Finally a bar let them play, but they wouldn\'t let any of us in, and we drove all the way back to UMass with no show. I know you\'re upset right now, but take a few days to come down from it and don\'t take out your anger towards a club on youself.

I don\'t think this means you have to go on Breakfast hiatus Holly; I think you\'re overreacting. It happens to us all when we are under age from time to time. The risk is always there and you\'re lucky it hasn\'t happened before last night. You can\'t be too mad at them for that, you were breaking their rules after all. :P Not that it sucks any less, and I\'m really sorry!
As for Nikki and Fred, that\'s just **** ridiculous.
Decent show, HLH sounded good.
By the time I got there there seemed to be quite a few people diggin it.

only time you\'ll see me back on the east coast and at a breakfast show is if they are in the NE during february. it\'ll be my 21st birthday and i was hoping they wont be out on tour during that time. i know its a long way away but i can always hope......

Weird night all around. Even though I managed to avoid ejection or towing or any other showgoing disaster, everyone else\'s plights had me down all night. I get there and mamalaka and freddie are out in the van, but it looked eerily like they were in a jail cell. So they\'re pissed and bored and I want to get them over my house ASAP and I\'ve got heads there already with my roomies holding it down. The show starts and it\'s decent enough but only about 20-30 people are really paying attention, so I decide I\'m only doing half the show cause I need to get home to the party. Now I\'m wierded out because I just walked into a Breakfast show and decided in the first 5 minutes that I was only staying for half of it. When the hell do you ever think like that? I saw psign and thought it was ok, but other than that I was just running around talking to people, handing out directions and Digests, and not really paying attention. By the time I left (before Joce even got there) there were maybe 40-50 people really watching the band. It was OK I guess, not a doozie by any means, maybe it got better later. The Spiritual Rez people told me that they had about a dozen fans thrown out last time they played there. I guess that\'s just the thing to do there, get thrown out. But they were invited back anyways, I don\'t think the bouncers take the time to survey what band people are there for as they throw them out. The party picked up the night for me, a lot of people came and it was a blast. The band played well, but if I had to compare the whole scene to an Indy car driver it would definitely be Al UNSER Jr.

the boys def. threw down solid to a typical Boston lamefest of a crowd...I had never been to a show at Harpe\'s before where when I looked behind me I would see rows of people so that alone is a good thing..psygne was executed very well for it\'s second time played and the jam out of it was pretty sick.. personal highlights were of course the raging beast that was Buquebus and his good buddy Hard Luck Harry- it had been to long since I had visited either..Spears was owning my soul all evening esp. during the Taboo breakdown.. no encore because once again Boston crowds are LAME...freddie and mamalaka- so sorry.. I think Nikki made her way back in as I remember seeing her towards the end of the set.. postom and jocelyn- good to see you guys if only for a few....oh yah I was a little drunk but I think the jam with Brian from Spiritual Rez was that of a Lizzie Reed....

Pretty good show I managed not to get booted.....nice sound at the venue, I wasnt really keeping track of the setlist so I\'m not totally positive of everything they played but I heard.....Chase, Doughboy, Psigne, Cut Me Some Slack, Buquebus, Crazy Santana Jam with a crazy tembe(sp?) player from an opening act, Dig, Hard Luck Harry, Taboot,......I know the order prob is a little off and I think I\'m missing a song in there but thats the main gist of things. Couldnt find parking so I was an idiot and parked in the Brooks parking lot only to have my car towed, so I had to walk 20 minutes through projects to pay $110 to get my car back, so it was an eventful night.

Boston sucks. I didn\'t go, I\'m not worried. After last night though, any 1 set show that is lucky to be an hour and a half long is a guaranteed let down.
