I had the good fortune to see Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder a few years back...check out Live at the Charleston Music Hall (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00008NRKJ/qid=1127268813/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl15/002-1559421-6204029?v=glance&s=music&n=507846)

That is why all the bands that play his stuff always give props to him b4 they play one of his songs...HBRSB has that "High Bill Medley" awesome stuff...YMSB are fanatical about Bill Monroe.  The real genius of bluegrass is John Hartford though.  Trust me.  Slim and Gencs(and Seanaldo and whoever...) Hot Buttered Rum is coming back soon and so is Yonder...ahhhh bluegrass!!!

grab a pen...

1. Chris Thiele from Nickel Creek
2. Definitely Sam Bush
3. Jesse McReynolds (only mandolinist to ever record w/the Doors)
4. Frank Wakefield
5. and, old school bluegrass legend Bill Monroe

try those on.

Jef Austin from Yonder Mountain is one of, if not the best mando players out there right now.  From soulful renditions of Dead tunes to all out crazy strummin\' bluegrass, this guy is where it\'s at...and he is sssooooooo young.  Check out YMSB and his duo stuff, both on Archive.org.

Between the rise in popularity of Seanaldo as a Breakfast/Timmy guest, and my recent purchase of "The Pizza Tapes", I\'ve been on a bit of a mandolin kick.  Any recommendations other than David Grisman as far as good mando artists/albums?
