first time seeing sci was with mmw in troy, ny. my buddy, his girlfirend and I scored an eighth of buds and a quarter of shroom before we even got out of hte car. the highlight of hte nite was b far mmw, but that could of been b/c I was tripping my face off for their set, and was winding down middle of sci set. although i agree they are good live, thats why ive seen them like 3 or 4 times, but not tix are getting a little too expensive. nothing like see the breakfast for $5.
i was thinking of catching sci in burlington on 11/11 despite the $25 tix price, although the other nite i noticed michael franti is playing that same nite in burlington for only like 10 bucks and since ive never seen him i\'ll prob see him instead.

That\'s cool just wondering if it was only becuase you don\'t know how to hulahoop.

Space...how if you have never seen a band live do you know it is not your scene? Just wondering?
because I have been to the lots of SCI shows, know plenty of people who are into SCI.
I am not putting down what they do or the scene. I am simply saying it is not for me.

I am going to see them tomorrow night... can\'t wait.

Not a huge fan of SCI but they have had their moments when you just need to listen. I have never seen them live and honestly never plan on seeing them live but respect is due to a band who has just about made it. Not my scene but they must be doing something right or were they just in the right place at the right time?

I saw them in Ithaca last week and it was SICK. Best cheese show I have seen since probly 01 0r 02. I lost my taste for them for a long time but they were amazing the other night. Just like walsh said, great blend of the old and new style. They have gotten much better at the \'new style\' i.e. jam rock. It no longer sound corny and cliche but rather its very rocking, inspired and tastefull! The place was pretty packed but seemed to be less of the typical annoying hoolahooping wacko scenester cheeseheads too. Just a lot of happy people dancing thier asses off having a good time like it should be. Really glad I went on a whim. The jams are still mostly up beat and happy but they having a MUCH harder, progressive edge to them.
ps> All the haters can suck it if you think you know all there is to know about cheese and think your too cool for them i recomend you clear your mind and give em another chance and check out a show. You may be pleasantly surprised. I was.

So is the Hepatitis;)

I am looking forward to my dose of Cheese in Vegas in Oct. Never a big fan until the Wiltern last Dec. SCI kicks some major butt to me. As for the fans I have found them to be courteous, generous and fairly knowledgable about their band. I have seen more pretty ladies @ 1 SCI show than any 10 random jamband shows. That is a BIG plus! :) oh and chocolates are nearly free!

There fans suck though... way too peace, love, & happiness for my taste... plus the chicks have hairy armpits and, evidently, it\'s cool if you stink... got trapped in an elevator with a bunch of wooks after a show, and goddamn, I nearly fell out...
there are many beautiful women who choose not to shave their underarms. open your mind.
sorry, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder....
-
They are the only band lame enough to release a single disc live show.
Well with the exception of the Breakfast of course. ;)
I guess phish is lame too then :(
I could\'ve told you that.
i saw that response coming a mile away;)

wow. what a great new way to measure a band\'s level of lameness! thanks!

I personally have never seen them live and I have a friend who is so in to them it is not funny. So needless to say I will check them out in portland. After all it is in my state down the street?

SCI is weak. The disgrace of the jamband world. They did some good stuff with keller, but alone they just suck. They are the only band lame enough to release a single disc live show. They just dont get down like the rest of the scene.
-
While I don\'t listen to them on cd very often, I love them live. I\'m seeing them in Birmingham and maybe Atlanta next month. The last few shows I saw in 2004 were the ****...

last time I saw the cheese was @ "the big summer classic" in Danbury they were the headliner and I thought they were the least impressive of the day, IMO

IIIIIIIII still waaaaaant a hooooooooooooola hooooooooooop.
i wanna go to the show wearing pixie dust and fairy wings on stilts and ask people for free hugs and miracles
I\'m gonna go ahead and make the assumption that their fanbase is flaky.
-
^^That is funny I just want to go for the music but to each her own;)

10/8-9 Hampton Beach, NH (hopefully)
damn! i woulda done this show w/ ya, but I\'ve already committed to Detroit Rock City for that weekend.

It seems as though once they get into a \'jam\' its the same premanufactured jam no matter what the song is
It\'s funny...I\'ve heard this criticism applied to EVERY jamband. Cheese, Disco Bisuits, Soulive, The Slip, The Breakfast, Particle, New Deal, the Allman Brothers, you name it. Funny how that works.
-
I used to like them; their show this summer at the BSC at Great Woods did absolutely nothing for me. It seems as though once they get into a \'jam\' its the same premanufactured jam no matter what the song is, I\'m over them completely.

I used to love these guys and then somewhere in the Late \'02/early\'03 I lost the feel for the style they were going for. Maybe it was the ticket prices too, way too pricey too quick(imho).
Lately, however, i have been hearing rumblings from older fans of the band that held my opinion as well that the Cheese had found a great new blend of "Old"and "New" that was once again...gouda! Sorry, I had to do IT.
So, with the help of the LMA, I have been checking out shows from the Summer \'04 Tour and on(and some moldy oldies that I used to love) and I think those old jaded heads might have something here. The sound the Cheese has evolved to is once again interesting to me.
Now, do not get me wrong, there are still some things I think they should have stayed away from(**TRANCE**), but it seems they have forged some sort of new(to coin a phrase) "Earthy Trance", that surprisingly seems to work. Also they have began to bring back some of the bluegrass that drew me in back in \'97-\'98. Along with a concerted effort to continue writing good songs and form a STRONG community, I might have to do a run with SCI this fall.
My possible run would be:
10/6-7 Portland, ME (doubtful)
10/8-9 Hampton Beach, NH (hopefully)
10/10-11 Ithaca, NY(doubtful)
10/13 Scranton, PA(probable)
10/15? Lindale, NJ(probable)
I gotta see how work, the funds, other plans(BP in CO & FLA) unfold. I thought I had to air this because I am bored.
