i think e-rock from rezi started it. So i guess you can blame trb for that one.  It was obviously in bad taste but at that point we were all FACED and desperately wanting more sizzlin hot bfast ...not more boring moe.

As far as having fans that are vocal about their band it can be a double-edged sword for sure.
Take moe.down. I know having fans chant moe.sucks! for more than a minute because The Breakfast ran out of time may have been funny as it WAS moe.down but I would think it may not have been the best thing for the band.
The thing I do find great about the chant is I do not think it was started by a .infoer. This tells me there is a spark that just needs to be ignited w/ the flame of a TOUR!!

Remember I am not arguing with anyone, i just got excited with actual discussion on this baord that didn\'t revolve around face ownage or being owned;)

i like AOD, I\'ve taken pics for them a couple time. some much needed folkie/soul music with a damn good sound track. the same with TLG. i didn\'t care to much for their latest studio album but there live sheet is pretty decent. the keyboardist is pretty damn good, but Sequia would toast \'em. it\'s all right to like another bands sound but all in all and push come to shove it\'s all about the Breakfast period. and i still dislike UM

I am not saying that at all...most fans are thick skinned about their fav bands anyway.  I am just saying that music shouldn\'t be considered a competition.  Why does everything have to be "mine is better than yours!"?  I just think that if band members get along why do fans have to constantly try to "prove" that "their" band is better?

I don\'t think that they will be offended, but why have to hear that every time a band other than the breakfast/Timmy Tour/GTB are mentioned?  Even on the TFA part of this board which is for "other" bands than the Breakfast...there is ALWAYS a they suck, they aren\'t as good as the Breakfast, etc.  Why is there that need?  If you don\'t like that band why post and try to compare them to the Breakfast?  Let people have some other bands that they like and discuss them where they are supposed to without haveong to "defend" their choice on bands that they listen to.

And I know this is the GSOT board, I am just making a point in a thread it was warranted.

It is really not a good thing for a band who is trying to get a stronger foothold in the jam community to have fans that constantly put down other bands...period.   Guess what these people might actually like some of the bands that get shot down here frequently...and if they aren\'t "crazed" about the Breakfat yet; they might say F**K It!  It\'s not worth it to stick around...bye, bye new fan.

WALSH

Your right to some degree walsh. Obviously some people will be turned off if they hear every bfast fan saying..."The breakfast is the best ever...everything else is poop"

However I am not going to pretend shitty bands don?t suck to avoid scaring off new fans of the breakfast.

If some idiot is SO offended by the fact that I think brothers past are whiney and corny and boring, that they give up listening to the breakfast, then I say **** them. We\'re better off without fickle people like that around anyway.

It\'s just an opinion. If some weak minded fool is scared away by the fact that I think thier favorite band blows then good riddance

I know those polls are bull. I was using this to spout about something I feel very strongly about and figure the band would agree, I would think.

I lose.  I\'m sure they\'re all good bands.  I\'ve never heard any of their music, so who am I to say.  I still put absolutely zero stock in these polls though.  That\'s my only point, I have nothing against any band.  We need some "drunken poster" tags.  I think I\'ll go insert those now.

Yeah once I learned one could just set up a Bot to vote over and over I realized the poll is just a time killer and fluff for bandfans.

I challenge everybody and anybody on this board to present to me ONE fan of Green Lemon.

Well Seth I guess if this is a challenge you lose. Green Lemon is a great group of guys w/ a really unique sound. I own about 10 of their shows and they are really fun in concert. They play mainly out here in the West, midwest. Flight of Manwe and Shoestrings are 2 of my favorite songs. I have run lighting for them twice and yeah they are no Breakfast but they are fun.
Moonshine Still is another band that is ripping it up out here and other places not NE. See People The Breakfast is not the only band that deserves WIDER recognition.
TLG and UM being on top I have no problem with as they deserve it for their touring efforts.

Oh and what WALSH just said.

Alright, let\'s not get crazy.  Brothers Past just got signed to SCI fidelity and also got a booking agent that helps some of the largest electronic bands in the world...they are trying to forge a new genre basically and draw crowds of jamfans and electronica and Indie...let me tell you from personal experience...it is working.  It is funny how a few years ago, when BP was opening for PB, people liked them and wanted a co-tour when I brought that up; yet now that they have gotten themselves a MUCH larger fanbase than the boys...now they SUCK!!!  That will help tB, putting down other bands, very good.

Tea Leaf Green...haven\'t seen them due to the lack of East coast shows(hmm maybe people on the west think that of Breakfast???  Funny how the guys like them and have played together but the fans feel the need to mock.

Licorice...used to be part of Grandfather Ridiculous.  Played at the Sunfire Fest in Portland 3 years ago with PB.  Now they have started playing religiously around the east coast, most in NYC and have been featured in Relix\' bands to know.

Green Lemon just won the JamOff put on by Relix and voted on by fans and music industry folks...the gig was in NYC, where was the Breakfast?

Moonshine Still plays to crowds 6-8 times larger than the Breakfast in the south most of the time...They are slowly moving their width of shows as they staurate and area.

RAQ...they also have a relationship with the Breakfast, does everyone already forget the China->Rider with Chris and Stoops?  As all of you mock the band, that self-admittedly used to sound like Phish, they are also carving their niche in the jamworld with EXTENSIVE touring and playing with the likes of,mmmm let\'s see, oh yeah moe.!!!  Their sound, thanks to Stoops, is drastically different now in many areas.  Yes, Chris still gets "Trey-like" at some points; but is that SO bad?  I know it is the in-hipster thing now to diss Trey and hate on "Phish"...but I know that is not gonna help the Breakfast.

And that leasd me to the AODust...this band has Reid Genauer in it.  Really should be \'nuff said, but I know people will retort with a chorus of "He sucks" and "TPalms would play circles around him", etc.  SO, let\'s really take a good inventory in our heads of how many fests this band gets "INVITED"to.  Also, Phil has brought Reid out to sing with the PLQ in the past, bc basically, like him or not, the guy can REALLY sing.  Hard to find in the jamband circuit.  It\'s not "raging" rock by any means but this guy has brought **TWO** bands now to a higher level than our beloved Breakfast...so no offence Wolf, but i think that AOD has more than 2 nerds voting for them.

Now, this isn\'t an affront on the Breakfast, I want them to make it more than anything.  Also, I am not looking to stick anyone out, I am just using the bands that were already talked about.  It is really not a good thing for a band who is trying to get a stronger foothold in the jam community to have fans that constantly put down other bands...period.  All these shows(i.e. moe.down, UVM parties, etc...)are done to bring in new fans.  Guess what these people might actually like some of the bands that get shot down here frequently...and if they aren\'t "crazed" about the Breakfat yet; they might say F**K It!  It\'s not worth it to stick around...bye, bye new fan.

Sorry for the rant, but try thinking about what I said before you type, "Whatever, Wook!"

[DRUNK POST TAG.  LAUGH AT AND MAKE FUN OF POSTER.  DO NOT TAKE SERIOUSLY]

These bands are lucky that their 2 fans are big enough geeks to sit there and program their computers to stuff the ballot.

On second thought, they probably did it themselves.  I challenge everybody and anybody on this board to present to me ONE fan of Green Lemon.

...I just jambased all of these bands and laughed my ass off.  The best is Licorice, with a whopping ZERO shows listed.  They\'re probably a high school band with some geeky friends.  Heck, I used to put my high school bands on jambase, it\'s not hard.  I hate to ruin everyone\'s fun cause I know people think that stuffing these meaningless polls will somehow help the band, but I\'m not going to sit here and vote over and over when some 15-year-old nerd in the Tennessee mountains with nothing to do is going to nullify my votes by stuffing the ballot for Old Union.

well its been a month, and it looks like they finally updated this poll a bit....the list is back on the main page and now directly above the "fan site of the month", currently held by none other than the "dot info".  Would be great to get the bfast in the top ten so they would be displayed in the poll right above the .info link....

here\'s the updated list:

1. Umphrey\'s McGee 9.1%
2. Perpetual Groove 8.5%
3. Tea Leaf Green 7.7%
4. Raq 6.6%
5. Green Lemon 4.8%
6. Licorice 4.6%
7. The Bridge 4.0%
8. Moonshine Still 3.7%
9. Assembly of Dust 3.0%
10. Old Union 2.6%
11. Brothers Past 2.5%
12. Benevento/Russo Duo 1.9%
13. The Breakfast 1.7%
14. The Motet 1.5%
15. New Monsoon 1.3%

Might be hard but we did jump up two spots since the last update so....
If you haven\'t voted yet....DO IT!  :)

I agree that we shouldn\'t be seen as cheaters, but if we can mobilise the entire membership to vote (one of dave\'s emails to whole membership, as in the song poll??), we could bump the band up the order. Winning is unimportant - exposure is what is needed.

I sent an email to Dean Budnick to try and get thebreakfast.info featured in the FanSite of the Month section.  I haven\'t heard a word....

I always send any review I do to jambands as well, but they keep telling me that my reviews are "too inside".  I emplore anyone who posts a review on this site to CC Dean Budnick a copy for submission to jambands.com

I agree with voting, it needs to be done. But, we don\'t need to go overboard and waste our time trying to get the band into 1st because it is a meaningless poll. We should all vote and get the band the exposure of being seen on the front page of the website.

these polls are meaningless. it doesn\'t matter if the Breakfast win or lose.

our goal should be to make the band seen in the top 10 for all of the polls that they put up. Exposure is all it needs.

Here\'s the current question: Which of these groups do think is poised to win over a new and expanding fanbase in the second half of 2005?

Top Results:

1. Perpetual Groove 9.0%
2. Umphrey\'s McGee 8.5%
3. Tea Leaf Green 8.3%
4. Raq 7.1%
5. Licorice 5.2%
6. Green Lemon 4.5%
7. The Bridge 4.1%
8. Moonshine Still 3.9%
9. Assembly of Dust 3.0%
10. Brothers Past 2.6%
11. Old Union 2.1%
12. Benevento/Russo Duo 2.0%
13. The Motet 1.7%
14. New Monsoon 1.4%
15. The Breakfast 1.3%
16. Yonder Mountain String Band 1.2%
17. Ekoostik hookah 1.2%
18. Widespread Panic 1.1%
19. God Johnson 1.1%
20. moe. 1.1%

The list goes on as such for 140 bands but only the top ten are shown on the front page, so i think we all should vote and get the breakfast up in there.
