Snoozer Bowl \'06.  Screw football, did anyone watch the Puppy Bowl on Animal Planet?

I was flipping between the two.

Seattle almost made me change my mind about the game but I am sticking with, "I was not entertained and personally could care less about the two teams." It is nice that Bettis will end his career with a storybook scenario.

Went to the grocery store for the 2nd quarter. It was so nice to shop in an empty store. Got back saw the Stones play a decent set and now it seems this game is going to be worth watching.  Oh yeah Pittsburgh feeds off momentum. W/ that missed FG by Seattle watch out!
Pittsburgh is finally going to match the Niners w/ 5 wins in the SB. Damn!

Nice interception. Did anyone see the poor big guy that pulled something having to run all that way blocking? Oof!

this game is sucking right now, not really that entertaining. I feel like it is one of those 4 o\'clock games that you really aren\'t sure why the game is being shown in your area. I\'m sure if you are a fan of one of these teams then if might be exciting. Well, I don\'t think some of the folks in Seattle and that area are enjoying it, since power has yet to be restored to many homes.

The spread: Steelers -4

I figured it would be around Steelers -2 or maybe even a pick\'em.

Mike & the Mad Dog just said they thought it would be around Steelers -6.

So who knows?

I know I picked Seattle to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl back in September and am sticking to my prediction that they will lose in the big game (although my predicted winner-Kansas City-is nowhere to be found).

Ok how about this. You suck @ parallel parking.

Actually, I\'m good at parallel parking, I\'m just obsessive/compulsive and won\'t feel comfortable in a spot till I adjust the car a few times and get the perfect park, annoying the passengers in the process.  By the way, I hear from my source that you are an intense/wreckless driver.

.

I believe there is a fan in each city, Dan K registered in Erie, PA and someone from Seattle, though I have no idea what his/her name is.

Doubt either of them will be online to talk **** this week.

The guys I hung out with in Huntington Beach last weekend are lifelong Socal dudes and also lifelong Steelers fans.  It was weird eating Breakfast in a bar/restaurant with such avid Steelers fans last Sunday morning.

Way to go Mike Holmgren and the Seattle Seahawks. I have to admit as a Niner fan I am not a big Seattle fan but I have to give kudos to Mike H. This guy is a genius w/ quarterbacks. I never really thought he would be able to pull it off but w/ the huge decline in the NFC West of late, his and the Seahawks time has arrived.
This Super Bowl is really going to be fun to watch.
Oh and congrats to the Steelers. **** DENVER!!

yesterday, Mike & The Mad Dog had on Colts President Bill Polian, and it was one of the funniest/best/worst interviews i\'ve ever heard.. he ended up hanging up on them, after agreeing with Manning (O-line blew the game), and not answering ANY of the tough questions he was being asked..

there\'s a sound clip on wfan.com of it. i\'m not sure how much of it, or what part it is (can\'t check at work), but definitely check it out:

http://wfan.com/chrismikeaudio/local_audioclip_018175504.html

post-interview, mad dog said something along the lines of "jeez, the other day Peyton throws the offensive line under the bus, Polian comes on here and basically throws them under a 747!"

under a 747... wouldn\'t that be in the air? :hscratch:

wolfman, you should have been in that NFL network commercial.

jets have a new coach.  mangini.  friend already has a nickname for him.  i\'ll pass on posting it...

and the steelers are going to the superbowl.  even though i was passed out for most of the 2nd and 3rd quarters that was the most entertaining football game i\'ve seen since the jets/steelers playoff game last year.

go steelers.

As I accurately predicted in the first post in this thread, the Minnesota/Philly NFC Championship game next weekend should be a barn-burner...

Too bad the Pats finally lost a playoff game.  But don\'t worry folks...the Pats will not win fewer than 10 games in a season until Belichick retires, and that\'s not for another 15 years.  Good luck with your "I-wish-we-had-what-the-Patriots-have" franchise of your choice.

This week: Steelers over Broncos 17-13.  Seahawks over Panthers 13-10.
Super Bowl XL: Steelers over Seahawks 21-15.

well this game just got more exciting.. 21-18, 4 minutes to go..

i do NOT agree with the overturn on the Polamalu interception.. thought it was quite clear he caught the ball, but i\'m glad the play went the way it did as it made the game more exciting, and i don\'t have a dog in this race..

but someone explain to me what happened with 11 minutes left in the 4th.. 4th and an inch, steelers go for it.. they go to the line, and half the indy defense comes across, pointing at a pittsburgh lineman, then the entire steeler line stands up, but there is never a flag or a whistle.. ref comes out and says there\'s no penalty, replay the down.. what? how is that possible? how do both teams go and line up for a play, and NOTHING happens?!? there\'s gotta be either a play or a penalty... right??

weird..

manning sacked at the 10.. under 2:00 to play...

all-out blitz, manning down at the 2, game over...

wow.

bettis fumbles, indy ball... WHAT?!?!?

colts in FG range... holy ****...

Good luck today to the New York Football Giants!

In a perverted kinda way I started liking the Giants this year, just like I kinda started liking the Mets when I lived in New York.  The Giants are fun.  They played a bunch of zany games this year that were fun to watch.  The Breakfast crew digs \'em.  Picking up Eli off waivers in week 6 saved my fantasy team.  Let\'s do it G-Men!  Super Bowl XL against the Pats!

(https://thebreakfast.info/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fespn-att.starwave.com%2Fmedia%2Fnfl%2F2005%2F1029%2Fphoto%2Fw_eli_372.jpg&hash=362289f626a4bea0df8727a1729b6e387b76d2e6)       I like this picture.

Oh yeah, Pats win.  Business as usual.  See you next week.

They\'re keeping Brees. Philip may be on the way out if they can get a good deal otherwise he sits and waits.

problem is Rivers makes way too much money to sit the bench. if they could find a buyer for him it makes sense to get rid of him. no need to have that much cap invested in a backup QB; it\'s not like Brees is old and Rivers is in the position to develop as his replacement ala Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay. Plus, if memory serves me correct, Brees signed a one year \'franchise\' contract, doesn\'t that mean he is a free agent at the end of the year (I could never understand the whole franchise tagging thing in football). And if not, they\'re gonna need to pay him well to keep him in southern cali.
Oh yeah. The Chargers are gonna have to pay Drew what he deserves. Thing is the Spanos don\'t mind wasting $$ it seems so they will play hardball and wait for a deal on Rivers. Believe it. Drew will be the Charger Quarterback in 2006 and on. Philip got screwed when Drew decided to become a real quarterback.

Chargers literally outplayed the Colts. Chargers had there back to the wall and were forced to come out swinging and landed just about every punch they threw. After watching the highlights from the Colts game last night, I question if they will be able to perform to the level they need to in the playoffs. Someone from Tampa Bay said this after Saturday\'s game, "Until New England is beat in the playoffs, the are still the best team in the NFL".

Anyone see the Bears/Falcons game last night? When did the Bears defense become so good. Offense really isn\'t there but the defense gives them the opportunity to win. If Grossman comes back and the offense clicks the way it looked when he play last night, the Bears could make a good run at the SB. I\'d just like to see Bears/Giants and let the defenses go-off.

If the Colts did indeed look past the Chargers, it cost them a chance @ History. I doubt they did. The game was contested until the last couple of minutes.
The Chargers knew they had to win and set themselves up to win the last 2 games of the season against division rivals and repeat as AFC West Champs.

Not really the word I was looking for, so I went with the first word I thought of.

Chargers need to win out the rest of the season to get into the playoffs? Not sure but next week definitely looks like a big game for them vs. Kansas City in Missouri. With the Giants victory over the Chiefs yesterday, it kept the Chargers chances alive and when they won today they gave themselves a well needed boost before the end of the season.

Are the Colts going to lost this afternoon? That would be a huge victory for the staggering Chargers.
So they lost to the Dolphins because they made the mistake of looking PAST them.

I think the Colts looked past the Chargers this week and were thinking Seattle and the playoffs.

Staggering Chargers?
Up to last week they were in total control of their destiny. So they lost to the Dolphins because they made the mistake of looking PAST them. Well now the real Chargers showed up and have done what no one else could so far this year and that is take out the Colts. 2 Mannings and 2 victories this year. Gotta love it!!!!

Giants looked real good yesterday beating up on the Chiefs. The Giants defense looked well tuned and very dominate. Tiki very well might be the MVP in the NFC. I personally don\'t think the NFC has the what it takes to win the Super Bowl, but I would like to see the Giants/Seahawks rematch in the playoffs.

I didnt want to say it but you are totally right MVP. entire game was all tiki. If his momentum continues and he can have efforts like that combined with some passing game we are shoe in

incredible day for tiki. possibly the most underrated player in the league. could not believe what i was seeing.. play after play, turning short gains into bustout runs.. felt great to watch the best rushing performance in giants history, and best in the league this year.. great game!

MVP right there, for a back who is small and couldn\'t hold on to the ball a few years ago, MVP for TIKI.  When Eli can\'t throw a screen pass Tiki has been there to carry the team.  Very rare to see a player do so much (even though the Chiefs couldn\'t tackle to save their lives today!)

tiki starting to get the credit he deserves tho dont you think dave, This will obviously help too.  I cant wait for sportscenter :D

here is some stats

• Tiki Barber set four team records and tied another while rushing for 220 yards and two touchdowns on 29 carries.

His 220 rushing yards set a franchise single-game mark, two more than Gene “Choo Choo” Roberts’ 218 yards against the Chicago Cardinals on Nov. 12, 1950. Barber’s previous high was the 206 yards he had against Washington on Oct. 30. It was the third 200-yard game of his career. Barber rushed for 203 yards against Philadelphia on Dec. 28, 2002.

Barber increased his season rushing total to 1,577 yards, breaking the team single-season record of 1,518 he set last year. Barber has two games remaining to add to his mark. He is the first Giant in history with back-to-back 1,500-yard seasons.

It was Barber’s fifth consecutive 100-yard game, another team record. He was tied with Morris (1986) and Gary Brown (1998) at four in a row. Barber has 29 career 100-yard rushing performances, 10 more than Morris, who is second in team history.

Barber’s seventh rushing attempt late in the first quarter was the 1,824th of his career, tying Rodney Hampton for first place in Giants history. With an equal number of carries, Barber had 8,290 yards to Hampton’s 6,897, a difference of 1,393 yards. Barber broke the record with a five-yard rush on the Giants’ next possession. He finished the game with 1,846 career rushing attempts. Barber has 313 carries this season, the second-highest total of his career. He had 322 a year ago.

Barber’s two rushing touchdowns increased his career total to 49, enabling him to pass Joe Morris (48) and tie Rodney Hampton atop the Giants career list.

Barber also caught five passes for 29 yards. His 249 total yards were the second-highest total of his career. He had 276 total yards on Dec. 28, 2002 against the Eagles (203 rushing, 73 receiving).

not to mention he has only made ONE FUMBLE all year!

if eli could just learn how to throw the bomb to plaxico and toomer and shockey could stop droppin the ball we would really beunstoppable

Great day for the giants and tikiiiii!

that larry johnson clown is a hair on tikis ass.

I said before he even set the career high game yardage \'i think this is the best i have ever seen tiki run!\'

he was a total mad man out there. breakin tackles left and right, side steppin, runnin in place and just gettin serly jiggy with it!

also the highest single game preformance in the nfl all season and last too!

and all this vs with a make shift offensive line and defense that is very good against the run!

gotta give it up to em. tiki owned face today.

cant wait for the play offs.

I honestly think we got a really good shot at winning it all or at least get to the super bowl if things go our way.

I think its time the giants get some respect too.

Granted eli is still very young and makes a lot of bad throws and interceptions but we can overcome that.

Giants trying to instill some confidence into their kicker for the postseason?

The Colts are damn close to having an undefeated record this season. Three games to go, San Diego next week at home, then the Seahawks in Seattle before heading home to finish the season against the Cardinals. Seattle is hot this year, that game will definitely be worth watching.

The NFC at the moment in my eyes is between Seahawks, Giants and Tampa Bay. Bears and Minnesota could make a few surprises. Indianapolis is clearly the dominate team in the AFC at the moment and it wouldn\'t be to far fetched to see an AFC title game between Cincinnati and Indianapolis. However, the Broncos have had a decent season. Unfortunately, I don\'t see the Pats doing much this season, since they have been inconsistent at times this season and really don\'t have that dominat figure that they showed in prior championship seasons, but they are the Pats and stranger things have happened.

Thats Drew Bledsoe having 0 fantasy points as well, so not much consolation there.  I am a Giants fan who happened to have Bledsoe on my fantasy team.  But I would much rather have the giants win than Drew to have a good team.  Missed the playoffs in my league because of it too, oh well.

Glad they did but they didnt look that good.

Actually the defense looked GREAT but the offense looked like shitty.

One of eli\'s worst games this year if not his worse.

Not a big day for eli, tiki, plexico or shokey, luckily the defense and a few other people stepped it up and we got the W.

We are still the best team in the nfc no doubt.

how long was that one that feely hit off the post like 30 yards??? SHEESH!

The Lions have a lot of talent. There doesn\'t seem to be any consistent chemistry amongst the team. Personally, and this might be my hatred for Millen, I think it\'s time for him to go. The Lions have been perenial losers since Sanders left (I believe, when was the last time they had a solid winning season with a playoff win?) Millen seems to have no answers for turning the program into a winning one, so far.

Dick Jauron is a Yale Alumni and a Bears former coach (of whom I am a fan of the Bears), so I would like to see him do well, but running an entire team is a lot different then running an offense or defense.

he made the playoffs. but you are prob right, but who knows who they will have next year. as a lions fan i am surely disappointed with this season and have no idea what to expect next year. i mean its not all moochs fault, millen is partially to blame along with poor play.  k.jones never had the year he was projected to have after leading the nfl in the final 8 weeks of hte season. c. rodge got off to a rough rookie season, hasnt recooped and is not addicted to pain killers, j.g. broke his leg and screwed up the season, since he was goign to start. j.harrington playa role in this too, but this was more than mooch. maybe its time for the fords to sell the team or something.

i mean their is supposed to be a super bowl in detroit this year, and since we all kmnow detroit most likely wont be playing, you\'d figure they would want to represent themselves well in hopes of getting another one in the near future, but outlooks is just not so good. this really sucks...

I don\'t think Dick Jauron is the answer here. He had a tough time in Chicago. While he is an excellent coordinator, I don\'t believe he has the qualities for running a team effectively at the moment. Only time will tell though.

Lions fire mooch. dont know what to say. heard of this the days after the turkey fiasco but didnt buy in them.  jauran is good for hte remaining 5 games and maybe next year. if we finish 9-7 then we may take the division and make the playoffs.

The 10 offsides/illegal motion penalities can be tied to Eli. He is the center os the offense, everything revolves around him. If the tackle can\'t hear him then it\'s his fault. However, if the tackle can hear him and still jumps offsides, well its completely different story.

if the tackle can\'t hear him, he needs to maybe think about making an adjustment after the first 3 or 4 times he jumps offsides, like maybe holding hands with his guard. you canNOT blame eli for not being loud enough in that stadium. he can\'t really say \'HIKE!\' to one side of the line, then turn his head and say it to the other side..

The quarterback is at the helm of the offense. He is the player responsible for making the adjustments when necessary. Blame it on inexperience of not playing many professional games, this may have been the loudest game he has ever played in.

The fact is, no professional football team should make that many mistakes and I believe they made 4-5 in a row on the same drive.

Yet, no football team should blame a kicker because no game really should come down to making the kicker win the game. Lack of offense is usually the culprit. But, the kicker sucks and I agree with Gordo.

huh? no game should come down to a kicker having to win it?? then wtf is he there for??

well, it\'s obivous you didn\'t watch this game.. 21 points, 25 first downs, 490 total yards, and time of possession domination = lack of offense?? no. eli manning and the offense MARCHED down the field FOUR times late in the game and in OT, 3 of which set up a would-be game-winning field goal, which were all missed.. so by your logic, with 20 seconds left in regulation, from the 23 yard-line, the giants should have rushed to the line and threw to the end zone, rather than attempt a field goal? give me a break.

I did watch this game for the fact that I am anti-giant and anti-jet. So to see a dominate team lose like that made me laugh. If you read my previous post, I stated that no team should blame the kicker for losing a game.

By my logic, They should have won the game prior to having make the place kicker who missed 3 kicks try to win it. Everybody on that team should have sucked it up and put the ball in the endzone knowing that Feely would miss a field goal. And yes, lack of offense is usually the culprit, in this case, the Giants sucked and had a lot of penalties, which will kill any teams attempt at winning a game.

hate on Eli all you want but the kid is a great qb and is going to be better than payton eventually.

He is so clutch it is retarded.

Even if the giants lose in the first round of the play offs this year I will be happy because the team will win it all in the next 5 years gaurunteed.

between eli, plexico tiki and shockey they will have the best offense in the leauge soon enough.

they need a bigger better offensive line and a lot of help in thier secondary and a NEW FIELD GOAL KICKER and we will be UNSTOPPABLE.

So, T.O. is in good shape.

Will any team pick him up? Does he have a chance to play in the NFL, I mean every team he has been on, has had serious problems. NFL should take a stance and not let him play again. He is poison. In a game where team chemistry is so important you can\'t take a chance, or can you? I mean the dude is seriousily talented and when he wants to play he is great, but his attitude and his mentally are disasterious.

Congratulations Vikings on being the first team ever to have a kick return, punt return, and interception return for touchdowns in the same game.  That is truly amazing.  At halftime, the Vikings had 7 points and 6 yards of offense, that is one of my favorite stats ever.  It\'s kinda like a baseball team having a run with no hits, only way way harder.  Not to pick on the Giants though, I think they\'ll rebound to take down the Eagles.

Actually, that places him tied for 7th, but who\'s counting? That is, unless you\'re counting Eli\'s picks, in which case you\'d count 4. Or the amount of times Taylor got busted, in which case you\'d count 132.

Week 10

Vikings 24, Giants 21

oh.. my.. GOD!!!

ugh..

in a giants season full of sloppy, disgusting, hard-to-watch games, this one takes the cake..

defense hasn\'t allowed a TD in 13 quarters now.. great.. but they let brad johnson and the vikes march down the field at the end of the game for the GW field goal.

...which, by the way, would have never happened if Eli (who definitely had his worst game of the year) hadn\'t spiked the ball, leaving the vikes with plenty of time to do so..

i felt the exact same way i felt in the Dallas game, where the giants came back at the very end to force OT, only to lose the toss and lose the game on the first series in OT.

Eli was horrible, as was the Special Teams.. a kickoff and a punt run back for TD\'s.. :sigh:

i really wanted a win with the Eagles coming to town next week.. now the Giants pretty much have to win that game..

ugh.. i didn\'t even want to watch the FG attempt at the end of the game, cause i knew he was gonna hit it..

i hate sports.

oh let\'s just calm down, now..

is the offense a little shakey? sure. were there a lot of retarded penalties yesterday? sure. but the last time i checked, the last touchdown scored against the giants\' defense was 9 quarters ago. their D has given up a total of 3 TDs in the last 4 games.. if the D continues to perform like this, and the O can do just enough to squeak by, i\'ll be happy.

bad? no. bad teams lose the sloppy games.

Great time at the Pats game last night, but very weird game.  The Pats only showed up for the last 8 minutes of the game.  But hey, when you outscore the opponent 14-0 in the last 8 minutes, that\'s reason enough to win.  The defense actually did a great job limiting the Bills to 4 FG attempts after 4 long drives and no rest in between.  The D was out there all day.  That kept us in the game.

Where are all the Giants fans?  Is this team for real?

lawrence taylor is considered by many to be the greatest defensive player of all time, certainly the best linebacker. he would dominate the game and NEVER touch the ball. tomlinson has a long way to go to be considered in his caliber. he\'s had a great start to his career, no doubt, but the history of the league is littered with players that had a great start. for the record....i\'m NOT a giants fan.

Pats season in a nutshell:

Whether you\'re a fan of the team or not, any NFL fan has to wonder what happens to their 2-time defending champions.  It\'s pretty simple this year:

They will just enough to win the AFC East, whether that means 9-7 or 10-6.  They will have the 4 seed, and win their first-round home game.  Then its off to Indy, and Indy will finally have their year, toasting the Pats secondary for a 31-17 victory.

i\'m gonna go ahead and agree with wolfman about what he wrote to me in a PM last night: yesterday\'s Giants game was one of the worst games i\'ve ever seen in my life.

defense forces 3 turnovers in the first half, and our offense is absolutely SILENT until late in the second half, when they commit 2 turnovers themselves on would-be touchdowns.. then as soon as i\'m ready to throw in the towel, they march down the field and score a touchdown in 33 seconds to force overtime and give me hope, only to lose the coin toss and lie down defensively to lose on the opening drive of OT.

Eli\'s youth was definitely showing yesterday though.. he\'s yet to win an away game..

the new york football giants are 3-1 heading into their bye week. at 34 PPG, they have the highest scoring offense in the league. their defense has been a little shakey, but this is a giants team i haven\'t seen in a long time. this team has a LOT of weapons, and the big picture is this: Eli Manning. he is maturing VERY quickly, and he\'s been damn impressive so far, using all his available weapons, and throwing a lot of passes without being picked. Eli is the future of this team, and hopefully there will be great things ahead.

How do ya all feel about that? I know how I feel about it. The rest of the NFL betta recognize this Charger team is no pushover!

the chargers have an absolutely disgusting offense when used correctly (as it was the last two weeks). LT needs to touch the ball in all aspects of the game at least 30 times a game and there is no stopping them. If their secondary can pull it together (from what ive seen their run defense isnt too shabby) they have a legitimate shot at being AFC champions, unless they run into the turnaround team of the year (the aquatic mammals of south florda - add sarcasm tags around this last sentence)

How do ya all feel about that? I know how I feel about it. The rest of the NFL betta recognize this Charger team is no pushover!

the AFC east took some real shots this past week. Spikes, Harrison, and Pennington all out for the season. They are all impact players on their teams too. I personally am crushed by the loss of spikes...being a bills fan and all. The bills could be dead in the water now.

Losing Rodney is going to make this year even harder for the Pats. Man that sucks. I don\'t really root for the Pats but I did watch them because of him. I like many Charger fans were very upset to see him leave and happy he won a Super Bowl. The Pats are known for bench players stepping up but I don\'t know this time.

I absolutely love these guys.  They are simply willing to fight longer than anyone else.  Too bad the Jets are going to the Super Bowl   Jet fans, if you want to see champions play football, try watching the Patriots become the first team in 15 regular season games to win at Pittsburgh rather than watching your perennial underachievers lose at home to Jacksonville.  Remember what happened last time the Jets played at Pittsburgh?    The Jets would have a more productive Monday tomorrow by watching video of the Patriots rather than video of their own game.

Giants/Saints in the matinee game next Monday night, right? Should be a good night of football then, 2 Monday nighters!

The Giants really came together in the second half. 2 quick touchdowns to start it off. A couple of thiings they need to fine tune and the Giants can pull of a really good season. Once Manning gets into a groove and gets his comfortablity going, the kid is going to be unstopable.

Anyone watch any of these games today? Some good opening day football.

The Chiefs looked really impressive today. I now know what Pitchie was talk about a few weeks ago. With Johnson and Holmes coming out of the back field this year, they might be as impressive of back field I have seen in many years.

It was nice to see New Orleans win today. In dramatic fashion none the less.

Larry Fitzgerald had a career day, this kid is probably going to the Hall of Fame by the time his career is over.

The best games of Week 1, IMO, are the Indy/Baltimore game tonight and the Philly/Atlanta game tomorrow.

Title: Jerry Ric Retires from Football
Post by: Spacey on September 05, 2005, 02:53:03 pm
Quote
Sep 5, 2:15 PM (ET)

By EDDIE PELLS (AP)

DENVER (AP) - Unwilling to be a bit player with the Broncos, Jerry Rice retired Monday, closing a 20-year career for the most productive receiver in NFL history.

Rice, 42, made his decision over the weekend at home in San Francisco, then returned to Broncos headquarters and met with coach Mike Shanahan. He played 20 NFL seasons.

"This is a happy day," he said. "I think the tears that you see basically is that I have really enjoyed this ride."

Shanahan confirmed what Rice already knew - that he would be a fourth or fifth receiver, at best this season - and Rice confirmed what many figured - that he would rather call it quits than be a bit player with the Broncos.

Rice signed with Denver over the summer, reuniting with Shanahan, who was his offensive coordinator in the 1990s in San Francisco. For Rice, the idea was to play for a coach who was familiar with him and for a team that could help him go out a winner.

Shanahan made it clear he would not promise Rice anything, not even a roster spot. Behind the scenes, though, Shanahan said he knew it would never come down to him having to cut the league\'s best all-time receiver: He figured if Rice knew it was time to go, he would step aside himself.

Early in training camp, Rice moved into Denver\'s third receiver spot and things looked promising. In retrospect, the promotion was more a reflection on Darius Watts, who struggled catching the ball, but improved as the preseason went on.

By the time preseason ended, Rice had only four catches for 24 yards and had been pushed back down the depth chart. As expected, he wasn\'t released when the Broncos announced their final round of cuts Saturday, but he was already in the Bay Area deciding his future.

His agent, Jim Steiner, has said if Rice retired this time, he would not try to come back with another team. If that\'s so, Rice will close his career with 38 NFL records, including those for career receptions (1,549), yards receiving (22,895) and touchdowns receiving (197).

The Dolphins would be best off tanking the entire season and getting another year\'s worth of high draft picks.  I think they will show moderate improvement from last year, but being in a division with the invincible Patriots, the up-and-coming Bills, and the not-bad Jets, they\'re still a long way from any legitimate contention.

Seth, yes, and I am not ashamed of it. I do agree. I think they should tank the season to draft Matt Leinart #1 overall next year. Pretty-southern cali boy, he\'d fit right in on south beach, not to say he doesn\'t have a damn good arm either. I\'ve been saying it since they first got Ricky that they were a quarterback short from contending. I am still pissed off they passed on Drew Brees when they had the chance a few years ago.
