Ant, some small places you gotta get a beer in your hand asap...like corner pocket I had like two beers, showed people (door guy, bartender, owner) my face with a beer in my hand. Then I didn\'t drink for the rest of the evening. Richters is a different story.

...which would have been great when there was a gigantic hole in the floor and you could see upstairs... but of course, the wall came after the hole was gone...
ahhh...the hole....I will NEVER EVER forget watching Tribal>Mommy>Tribal from 3/12/04 Porters down on the first floor looking up through the hole....I could see TPalms and Save ROCKING!!!! It was a most amazing moment for me in my Breakfast life....
camera crew shoulda got a shot of that.. that show is so f-in good, i watched it again yesterday.
Sundance, HLH, No Quarter, Mooboo\'s, MFD, Tribal, Papa Tramantano all in one show?
Now that\'s what I\'m talkin\' about!

I remember a show, I think it was last summer or even the summer before at Porter\'s that was 18+. I know this because i had people from school who were visiting CT and under 21 come to the show. One of them was 21 and purchased drinks for the others, and they got caught and were shown the door no more than 25 minutes after arriving. My guess is that stuff like that was happening at most of their shows and they didn\'t feel like tolerating it anymore. Or maybe the wall/separation thing wolfman mentioned went into effect afterwards. I don\'t really blame places that make their shows 21+, because the majority of underage kids are going to find someone buy them drinks anyway, not saying any of you here do that, but I know that many do. And don\'t take this the wrong way as I may sound like a prick for saying it; if you\'re under 21, deal with it.

I had a talk with Scott (one of the owners) the other night, trying to get Bezerker, et al to get back in. They screwed themselves by walking upstairs. Nothing I could do!
i didnt have a problem staying in, just the my friends from NH decided to order downstairs. no matter what - twas lamer than balls

Porter\'s WILL allow 18+ downstairs. That\'s why they built that wall between the "restaurant" area and the bar DOWNSTAIRS.

Porter\'s WILL allow 18+ downstairs. That\'s why they built that wall between the "restaurant" area and the bar DOWNSTAIRS. BUT, when the bar is open upstairs, it\'s 21+ only. Ya dude, hang in there your almost there...I\'ve got two years.
-
I feel like I should have been in on this thread a while ago.
I have never owned a fake I.D. Though I have been to several 21+ shows, I have only snuck into one, as I was not carded at the others (via being with the band/showing up early/looking old enough). I don\'t drink at all when driving and I don\'t drink at shows (\'cepting TP 232 Wooster shows).
I think I\'m the oldest of the under 21 crowd here (Bday=11/22/84) so I have the least to complain about now. Although I have been dealing with 21+ (and even 18+ for a year) Breakfast shows since early 2002.

In CT, the bar area must be 21+. The "bar area" must be enforcably seperate from the rest of the venue. In bars that allow 18+ people, the enforcably separate "bar area" usually has only one or at most two ways in and out to the rest of the venue and is walled off as much as possible. (Walk into any TGI Friday\'s or Chili\'s and you\'ll see what I mean.) It might be possible that Porter\'s could legally run 18+ shows upstairs if they did not open the upstairs bar. They certainly didn\'t need it on Thursday night, they could have made up the 15 extra drinks they probably sold on ticket sales to 18-20 year olds. But I don\'t know if they can run an 18+ show or not...they never have, it\'s very grey-area. I\'m sure they could if they payed their protection dues, but they probably can\'t pay those right now.
Now that you mention the way chain restaurants set up there bars, it all makes sense.
Oh, and Chris, you\'re a Nutmegger. Get it right!

My fake worked great until once someone asked me whether in Delaware we call ourselves "Delawarites" or "Delawareans." Guess I should have thought about that one. he he
that sucks! trick question. both are actually correct. but how does not knowing that blow your cover? i don\'t know if i am a connecticutian or is there is even a term for it.
Well it never REALLY did blow my cover. I think the guy knew it was fake but had every intention of letting me in. He just wanted to mess around with my head a bit. He also asked me if it was real nice along the shore, etc.
Now that you mention it, I don\'t know what I am called being from New Hampshire.
I never had any doubt growning up in MA though. Masshole, obviously.

cops busting into porters = ser false scare..........there was no need for anyone to be kicked out of a place where some dude is wailing on drums. just plain bullshit
False scare? Porter\'s is practically out of business as it is. There is no doubt that one raid and they\'re toast. Maybe you\'re not scared of the cops raiding the place, fine, but Porter\'s management most certainly is, and it\'s their house. I completely agree with you that it\'s retarded to raid a bar where some guy is just wailing on drums for a bunch of hippies while the club down the street has 23 year old dudes slipping roofies to 18 year old girls, but we all know that the cops don\'t give a ****.

Ant\'s statement about giving wine to minors with parental consent got me wondering, so i started looking through the CT Liquor Codes
Sec. 30-86. Sales to minors...
(b) Any permittee...who sells or delivers alcoholic liquor to any minor...shall be fined not more than one thousand five hundred dollars or imprisoned not more than eighteen months, or both...
however there is a fake id provision that protects the bar owners:
The provisions of this section shall not apply to a sale, shipment or delivery made in good faith to a minor who practices any deceit in the procurement of an identity card issued in accordance with the provisions of section 1-1h, who uses or exhibits any such identity card belonging to any other person or who uses or exhibits any such identity card that has been altered or tampered with in any way,
oh, and Ant was right, the parental consent provision:
(3) to a shipment or delivery made to a minor by a parent, guardian or spouse of the minor, provided such parent, guardian or spouse has attained the age of twenty-one and provided such minor possesses such alcoholic liquor while accompanied by such parent, guardian or spouse.
By no means did I go through these codes with a fine tooth comb, but I did find it strange that I saw no mention of it being illegal for someone under the age of 21 to be in the establishment.
-
If you read the previous posts you would see that I said it was more of a statement. That I would go to shows with an ID and I\'m done \'sneeking\' in.
-
it\'s not worth it for me to go to one 18+ show out of the month.
Why? That doesn\'t make sense at all. It\'s what I had to do when I was underage. Does it have to be all or nothing? Why not go to the one show a month? I don\'t get it.
no ****, try only having 1 chance every 4-6 months to see them. no offense ant-man, but please remove your melon from your brown hole.
personally i think if you can find a REAL i.d. from someone who really truly resembles yourself, go for it. most places i go are looking for real id\'s, they arent crazy about the picture unless its way off/opposite sex/etc. its a long-shot for places to get fined for someone using a genuine state issued i.d. thats \'arguably\' them or not.. however, i know of some places in college towns that get paid to pull i.d.\'s from people. as for buying booze with a fake i.d., same thing, if it\'s real and it looks like you just find a liquor store with Indians running shop... they NEVER give a ****. i shot 100% for the 3 years i used my brother\'s i.d., only got denied from a couple bars (always for shows btw) in that span and they still let me leave w/the i.d. its all about confidence and staying calm when they question you.
i do realize, though, that im speaking on behalf of the greater Chicago-land area, a lot of posts make me think that out East theyre stricter.
-
i dont drink until after breakfast. the fake i.d. would just be for getting in. :deadhorse

As much as I hate to admit it, if I owned a club/bar/21+ venue, I would be pissed if underagers were coming in all the time and drinking. Fake IDs maybe, since it\'s hard for the bouncers to identify that sort of thing, but I understand why they would be paranoid. It\'s in everyone\'s best interest. Yes, I have a fake ID that I use at Lafayette Brewing Company all the time, but usually I only make one visit to the bar or else I give my money to a friend and they get it for me. Plus the cops never show up there because it\'s a really classy place and it\'s better known for its formal restaurant downstairs. It\'s a townie bar across the river from campus and the campus bars, so it\'s hardly ever the target of underage drinking.
-
I think at some point it is out of the club owners hands, laws do fall into place restricting such things as it.
As the owner of Side Street explained to us when he wouldn\'t let Genc\'s in to see Fuzzybox, cause he lost his license. the owner faces a minimum fine of $750 for allowing underagers in also has to drive to hartford to explain himself at a hearing... didn\'t really make sense to me since SideStreet is a restaurant... but he didn\'t want to hear it.
There are different laws for restaurants.
You can serve a child wine by the parents request.
You can sit at a bar if your 18 or older, if that is the rule of the bar.
BTW, anyone here TIPS certified? I forgot all the laws they teach you in the class....lol

it really sucks for those of us who dont drink and therefore would pose no risk to the venue.
These are the people who get hurt the most by the situation, IMO.

i\'ll risk getting into 21+ shows without a second thought
I\'m all good with that. Unless somthing changes where I get a CT ID I think I\'m staying out of the 21+ clubs.
Spacey has a point it\'s bad for the business, the band, and the people you hang around with (your friends). On the other hand I think venues want 18-20 year olds to be able to come into their clubs, of course it generates more revenue. But there are to many variables here, once the 18-20 olds get in there, the 21+ will be serving them, regardless of weather you lable the 18-20 olds (IE ristband, X on top of hand, stamped).
I\'ve got two years, that will come and go reallllll quick, I\'m not too worried as long as ChrisF doesn\'t get a job anytime soon!
OH! I was thinking about this the other day! Bezerker (and the sunapee crew), you get caught out of state you better believe your trucking your ass all the way back to New Haven to go to court my friend. Something you might want to keep in mind. :)

Keep in mind that some of us "of age" folks had the same problem back in the day when the fanbase was pretty much local and the majority of shows besides were 21+.
My reccomendation? Don\'t risk it. The laws are stricter than they were then. In RI if you are caught drinking and are underage (fake or not), you get your license suspended, whether you are driving or not; for some reason I see other stated following suit.
-
Underage kids should not be forced to sneaking into bars/clubs for 21+ shows. If you ever did get caught, and not let off with a warning, it would be bad for the bar/club and the band. Not that I don\'t admire all of your hardwork and dedication. It might be the next time the band trys to book the joint that they are denied to play because of an incident in the past. That being said, I feel for you under 21-ers. I believe that 21+ can cause a rift in the fanbase and even cause some younger kids to get turned off of the band. They need more all ages/18+ shows, but where? No such venue really exists that can cover this, outside of your Toad\'s Place and a few others.

thats a good point, i can get beer if i really need too, i would only use a fake i.d. to get into 21+ shows. i would never be drinking at a 21+ breakfast show, thats just asking to get kicked out, and besides i wouldn\'t want to **** anyone over. Scott from porters was telling me that the fines he would get if the cops were to come and find a bunch of underagers there would be enough to basically put porters out of business.
-
You ask why would I not go to the shows?
Well It\'s more a statement than anything, of course I\'m going to go see TB even if it\'s once a month. They want younger kids in the crowd, they need more all ages shows. (Acoustic Cafe, my buddy lives right down the street, loves TB and was going to bring a couple of friends, it\'s 21+ that leaves me and my friends outside :))
I take too many chances sneeking into 21+ shows, If I had an ID my intenstions would be to use it to get into Breakfast shows, not to drink at the shows, not to buy liquor. On Wednesdays I\'m not going to be drinking anymore down at Richter\'s anyways, could get me in the trouble and others around me. Anyways, If I need booze (when I\'m not at shows) I\'ll have someone that is legit get it for me.
Get my drift here kids?

Here you go. Just print these out and present at your local bar.

 I\'ve never seen the Austin signature before.

My ID is scannable, but there\'s no way I\'d ever risk that. C\'mon, I live in a college town. I don\'t know why my friends ask me to do it...there are 21+ people crawling everywhere.
-
yep. That\'s just looking to get arrested. Especially since a lot of placs that sell booze also scan IDs now.
-
Same here, jocelyn. The only place I\'ve ever used my fake is at LBC (where I saw TB). I go there 1-2 times a week for live music, so most of the bartenders and door guys know me by now and don\'t even ask questions. My friends always want me to buy alcohol for them, and I\'m like ok, then you get to pay my bail too.
-
Yeah I eventually got a fake one solely for the purpose of B\'fast shows. Never would use a fake to buy booze in a store, that\'s for sure. My fake worked great until once someone asked me whether in Delaware we call ourselves "Delawarites" or "Delawareans." Guess I should have thought about that one. he he

Yea, what she said. \'Cept I had the luxury of having an older brother who people seem to think looks like me and turned 21 in 2000.

If there isn\'t more of a balance in 21+/18+ I will be staying home and getting the recordings, it\'s not worth it for me to go to one 18+ show out of the month. Not to mention I can\'t keep promoting for the band seeing that 70% of my friends are under 21.

I\'m under 21.
And I have a fake ID. BWAHAHAHA! ;)
