Yea, MWC is Chicago. The open of MWC starts with a shot of some famous fountain in Chigaco.
Unfortunately, my poll is by no means an exhaustive list of all Chicago-based comedies. If I didn\'t rush to submit my thread and poll, I probably would have remembered some Chicago essentials. Can\'t believe I forgot Married With Children, which I rank higher than both of the shows in the poll. Sorry Mark, I think I missed Newhart by a few years, though my parents were fans of it.

Um, Bob Newhart...
most people here are going....."wait...who?"
Yeah, but what about the popular drinking game that swept the nation based on this show? For those who don\'t know it, watch an episode and drink everytime someone says "Hi Bob". You will be hammered in 30 minutes!
-
def urkel, remember when he would do that transformation thing into some other character who could do all kinds of athletic ****. i bet he would whoop balki\'s ass

I\'m all about the National Organization of Men Against Amazonian Masterhood. Married w/ Children was in Chicago. Peg was from **** County.
-
not to mention, where the hell is MARRIED WITH CHILDREN????????????
did this show take place in chicago? i have only seen it a couple times because i dont find it entertaining.
Roseanne took place in lanford, IL. I dont know if its a real town, but its in IL. Thats one of the few shows i dont mind watching. mainly because everything on tv sucks and this show is on all the time on several channels.

watch Balki on the Surreal Life. this guy is fuct!
-
Wisconsin, go figure...... Wasn\'t Laverne and Shirley in Wisconsin as well? This calls for another poll.
-
Since we\'re on Midwestern shows, whats up w/ Step by Step? Where did that take place, Minnesota or some ****?
I so had a hard on for one of the chicks in that show. not the smart one, not the dumb one, but the other one, yeah thats the ticket. the sporty badass chick.
Step By Step was set in Wisconsin.
I wanted to do some stuff with that chick back then too.
-
Married w/ children all the way. The Bundies ruled my face for as far back as i can remember.

Mark, I just had the strangest dream...
not to mention, where the hell is MARRIED WITH CHILDREN????????????
don\'t get me wrong, I love PS, but it can\'t hold a light to MWC. Between the two listed though, I agree with Chris and Dave - FM was good when it started but got really stupid really fast, and PS is the better of the two, hands down.

edit: nm.. that\'s false..
Mr. Belvedere was the other show..
-
oh god, PS by a mile...
easily my favorite show growing up. there\'s just no touching the duo that was larry & balki..
though there is a little bit of a generation gap on this one - PS ran from 1986-1993, while FM ran 1989-1998..
What was the original TGIF lineup?
Full House, Perfect Strangers, Just The Ten of Us, ???
(keep in mind that Family Matters, Step By Step, Boy Meets World came Later)
-
not a huge PS fan, although it was alittle before my time
-
Um, Bob Newhart...
-
PS for me. family matters was great, but i definitly enjoyed perfect strangers wayyy more.
edit: i\'d like to see PS dvds come out. i\'d buy \'em.
-
the question should be...what show had an uglier mother than good times?
yeah, she was freekie looking. the little wise ass from What\'s Happening was pretty ugly.
this thread has spawned a total 70\'s/early 80\'s TV conversation in my office.
I just remembered that I idolized Bill Maxwell from The Greatest American Hero when I was a weee chap.

family matters is actually a spinoff of perfect strangers. harriette worked in the chicago chronicle in both shows. carl was in it too playing a police officer. i guess after perfect strangers ended they decide to make a show around the windslows.
yup, but see the dates above - FM started while PS was still less than half done..

A few seasons of family matters are pretty good. but it ended up getting very stupid about halfway through the shows run. it was good when steve was just a geek, but when they turned him basically into a mad scientist the show no longer seemed realistic and just got very stupid.

Coming off the heels of a great Breakfast performance at 10,000 Lakes and in the hopes of a growing contingent of new fans in the Midwest, I have created a randon sit-com poll. In addition, since Kyndkate and Gordo have dedicated their blanks and efforts to spreading the Breakfast tunes (and vibes) in the midwest, the poll focuses on two old shows that were based in Chicago:
Family Matters vs. Perfect Strangers
Am I forgetting any other shows that were centered around Chicago life?
