why? would someone do that?  please explain...

Johnny Wu aka Durkin (Jen Durkin\'s bro) used to play the skins in Deep Banana Blackout.

DBB is no longer a band, though they do play a few shows a year together.

DBB should still be a band. :(

i\'ve never heard motet, but i can tell you that vinyl is AWESOME. i was so impressed the first time i saw them that i actually broke down and bought one of their t-shirts, which i rarely do. you\'ll dance the entire time. i\'d love to see them in their home town.

I frequently head out to shows at The Boom Boom Room in S.F., a great club that The Breakfast once played at.  Everytime I have gone there, I have thoroughly enjoyed all the acts I have seen (generally funky jazz grooves).  This Fri. is The Motet and Vinyl plays on Sat.  Since I plan on attending at least one of the shows and haven\'t heard either band, I am soliciting input.  I have noticed that both of these bands receive press on Jambase/bands so I\'m sure some .inforumers are familiar with these acts.

The following descriptions were provided by The Boom Boom Room for each band:

Motet: An intimate evening with the MOTET throwin\' down their signature Jazzfunkafrocubanic Shake Yo\' Ass music ! "Rootsy and steeped in African rythmns and groovalicious funk, The Motet\'s music is sure to infect you. It\'s a convergence of dance music and free-form improvisation that could turn out to be one of the most satisfying musical experiences you\'ve had since the dawn of the 21st Century."

Vinyl: San Francisco Power-Groovers Light Up The Boom Boom Room on this SATURDAY The infectious music of Vinyl blends old-school funk, Latin percussion, reggae and R&B into signature instrumental grooves.
Vinyl shows are high energy and dance oriented with a universal appeal. They play to packed houses throughout the San Francisco Bay Area
