The Breakfast has lost momentum in your region? Join the club. Man I feel your pain. Last time The Breakfast came south, Tim told me they may never play Atlanta again. so I was honest and I said, I don\'t blame you, because ATL is too tough a place to play, cause there\'s too much competition. I think Los Angeles is the same way - it\'s a brutal place for out of town bands to play. As for playing bumfuck towns, that\'s not such a bad idea because every time I\'ve seen the breakfast in a small town down south, it was way better than any shows they\'ve played in ATL. Places like Aiken, SC, Clemson SC, and Athens, GA packed out while it was dead in the bigger cities. I think that college towns - not big cities - may be the key to gaining momentum. College towns have a better vibe and a better mindset for grassroots type bands.
Well I\'m lucky in that when they do come they only play small places which are packed w/ Bfast fans but with the loooong time since they last came out I can only hope the crowds are still there.

When I talked to Tim about promo stuff, he said the an LA radio station has given them great airplay and actually has sold out shows there because of this DJ. I don\'t know about any other part of the country, whether or not radio play comes into effect or not. I agree that college towns are more receptive to the band but, you need to conquer some big cities or you may never move to the next level.
Our fellow member Wayne Stielau is proof that the L.A. has provided some decent radio exposure.
From what I have heard, the shows at 14 Below in Santa Monica have been very successful.
College towns (preferably heady ones) definitely work for grassroots. Look at Amherst from 2000 on. That place was hooked on Breakfast and the argument could be made that shows there were better than hometown shows for a couple of years.

Animal Liberation Orchestra def. takes the cake for being one of the dumber band names out there.. a step under Hypnotic Clambake, but one above Killswitch Engage.
talkin\' about stupid band names on this board? LOL If you understood that the animal they are liberating is the one inside all of us maybe it would not seem so dumb.
d00d I am aware of what animal is being liberated.. I don\'t need your schooling, brah, opinions are like ****...you all know the rest
toss in Hairy Apes BMX for more dumb names.
I guess you are a bit more touchy than me "brah" sheesh lighten up "d00d"

You are crazy Walsh ....
the breakfast playing for free....Ha....That is the funniest thing i have heard all day
There used to be a band named Psychedelic Breakfast that would play for free and/or tips at Fire + Water Cafe in Northampton, MA and The Meadows Parking Lot in CT.
I saw nearly 10 "free" shows at Fire + Water Cafe as well as at several other places (Amherst Common, Quadfest x 2, Hawk\'s Nest x 3 etc.). PB was often cheaper than the "All-items-for-a-Dollar" stores. "The Psychedelic Breakfast Bargain Basement"!!!

i find it mildly offensive that Galactic shows up on these gigs and TB doesn\'t
-
You are crazy Walsh but, you are also genius. Amazing how that works, huh?
-
\'06 is already announced:
1st Weekend: Biscuits, Yonder Mt., Galactic, New Deal
2nd weekend: Umphrey\'s, North Miss. Allstars, The Duo, STS9
That is why I was saying the Breakfast should get over there for late-night shows. **** they could play in the Leidseplein(open street/park in downtown) for free/tips during the day too, the place is CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!
-
"NO BLOODY PARTICLE!"
lmfao. cheers, mate
-
Breakfast in AMSTERDAM would be SICK!!! They should try to get late-night shows over there for the first or second weekend of Jam in the Dam.(Preferably the first so I\'ll be there) WOW, that woud be CRAZY!!!
boombox\'s Amsterjam 2006 Dream Line-up:
breakfast, biscuits, sci, tlg, moe, k-dub
(Organisers, please note: NO BLOODY PARTICLE!)`
Now that would get me there NOOOOOO problem.
Can\'t see it happening though. ;)

i didn\'t even know what ALO stood for until i just googled it..
Yeah because I only post crap no one wants to read I guess.

oh i definitely remember them being mentioned here before, i just couldn\'t tell you what ALO stood for.. and honestly, even after googling it yesterday, i didn\'t remember what it stood for, so there. :P
i just keep thinking of ELO when i hear it, as Al Z. mentioned in one of those threads you linked..

We plan to be out west in the fall. And yes, both the van and agent thing suck.
Then again, as I elaborated in the Chase forum, I do think that finally dealing with the van thing with Josh Kroop will be good for all parties, and the agent thing will hopefully be resolved shortly with a really, really good agency...one that really understands how to step this thing up here, and that also has a great rep in Europe.
Anyway....we really want to get west.
Europe???

Well since TLG and ALO never play out here, I guess we\'re even.
Oh really?
A few TLG dates of LAST month hmm in alot of Bfast venues at that. Oh and ALO is only opening the ENTIRE Jack Johnson Summer tour in Sheds.

Starr Hill - Charlottesville, VA

Jewish Mother - Virginia Beach, VA

Buffalo Creek Music Festival - Lexington,

NXNW - Philadelphia, PA

The Funk Box - Baltimore, MD
I am only attempting to put in the group consciousness that there is a major market not being taken care of and those music fans WILL AND ARE going to these other bands to get their live music fix.
Yeah TLG has Dennis McNally interested in them and Jack Johnson is personal friends w/ the guys in ALO so yeah they got a leg up there but I think if the Bfast just freakin\' play more out here and some bigger markets in the midwest, people will have no choice but to spend their cash on Breakfast and will be more willing to wait for the boys to come around. I question the momentum only because up until this past Baja Bash last year they were on a skyrocket of visibility what w/ a Jammy win(which was never truly capitalized on) and now I just think it is petering out.

This is good to read. I am kinda known as the Bfast freak so whenever the question actually comes up of when they are coming back out here I am the one that gets asked and I hate saying I don\'t know with an expression of hopelessness and shrugged shoulders.

I, of course, would love to see them out west, but knowing that they are an east-coast based band I can understand that they are doing what they need to do right now. Props to the boys.
-
East Coast **** Fo Life......
The Breakfast has been notified by the US Geological Survey that if they come out west too often, the ser power and soundwaves of a Buquebus, Mayfly, Score, Merge, Gladys Pimp, Fresh Cut, Tribal Funk and Lit will cause the already unsteady fault lines, which California rests on, to give way....now as much as I would enjoy watching Las Vegas become beachfront property, I dont think there would be enough time to evacuate all my family and friends....
And lets not think about what would happen if they even thought about playing a Mooboo\'s Voodoo (Episode Two-Doo) out there.....
-
I\'m desperately waiting for a western tour for personal reasons (I\'m now located out here). I hope a week or two of CA tour dates may compel some of you to come visit me and go on B-Fast tour. Helluvahat (Mike) is staying at my house in a couple weeks while on a trip out west to the Chili Peppers - Weezer show with Peck and Lele. I\'m hoping that many more of you make it here when the band does finally ink the CA calendar dates.
-
insurance confirmance.
thank god. so why would that have any effect on touring plans? get that mofo fixed and they\'ll be all set.
-
i flipped my ex-band\'s conversion van. the thing tumbled many times and i believe it did a cartwheel as well. i was sure i was going to die. but i walked away unscathed. wish i could have said the same about the van. it didnt even look like a van anymore...
-
at least when the boys do make it out west there seems to be excitement of thier arrival and shows at least in Cali an AZ. I have seen bands such as Tea Leaf Green and Perpetual Groove in the Northeast play ser fuckin doozies everytime. PGroove is HUGE down south, as is TLG on the left coast. just my .02

insurance confirmance.

I haven\'t heard what happened to the van, but please tell me that it was insured.....???
-
it\'s just really hard to do these things when you\'re suffering setback after setback.. now with the latest things with the booking agent and the van, who knows what\'s gonna happen and when...
elaborate?
the booking agent stuff is in this thread, and the van crash is mentioned in this review.

leith, while i agree 100% that the b\'fast needs to get back west ASAP (though, it\'s actually been under a year, if you count the 2 CA Baja Bash dates), they are an east coast based band (no matter how business-smart or unsmart that may be).. the same thing you said about TLG and ALO\'s audiences out there could be said for the b\'fast\'s audience out here. i mean, mention TLG or ALO here, and a lot of people would say \'wait..who?\'. i didn\'t even know what ALO stood for until i just googled it..
but like i said, i do agree that they need to be out west SOON. hopefully the late-july 10k lakes fest could be a nice warm-up for a september-october western tour. as much as i love being able to see local shows, i\'d much rather have them be doing tours in worthwhile areas, and not a bar in bumfuck north dakota..

So the guys have not been out west in over a year and 1/2. In that time TLG and ALO\'S audience has quadrupled out here. It used to be when going to these shows it would be easy to spread the Bfast love. Now I get the attitude of basically The Bfast yeah they\'re good but they never come out so why bother? TLG and ALO are pushing and pushing and making the treks out east. It seems the momentum that was building for The Bfast has petered out. I would be very surprised to see any sell outs when they come back other than Winston\'s
I know they have a booking problem right now but in all sincerity if this band wants to actually make a living making music they have to find the time to nurture the national audience.
