mama, those are both excellent choices
-
i have never read a harry potter book or seen one of the movies
i think all that the harry potter hype is kind of cheesy...
as for movies that are better than books, here are some toughies:
one flew over the cuckoo\'s nest (ken kesey) then made into movie with jack nicholson
the shining (stephen king)
can\'t decide if the movie/book is better
-
Honestly, I have never seen a movie that was better than the book.
A couple of close ones that come to mind:
A Civil Action
Jurassic Park
-
all movies (in english) are better than their respective book counterparts because you don\'t have to read them. ;)
Very true. lol

Very true. I can\'t think of one movie that was better then the book. I am reading Stephen Kings Misery right now and that movie, is excellent but his writing style is captivating.

well im glad to see there are hp fans on this board. I too feel that the books are better than the movies, have you ever seen a movie that was better than the book that preceeded(is this even a word?) it. THe third movie was by far the best, the visual style that cuaron brought to the series was great. I dont know who is doin the fourth movie, but it seems as though it will follow suit and be the best thus far as each movie was better than the one before it. Anybody goin to the midnight sale in a month for the 6th book?

movies about the past/future,scifi,sports,underwater,outerspace,wars,religion,politics=suck
Well that cancels out about 80% ofthe greatest movies of all time.
Sounds like Fred is a romantic comedy kind of guy.

i\'ve read them all and eagerly await the next

I only read the the first one so far, loved it. Liked the book much better than the movie because it\'s your imagination creating the characters, not the hollywood geeks.
Truth to that. Nothing can be an imagination.

What was the first Potter movie? Was it Prisoner of Azkaban?
-
Im gonna go out on a limb here and declare myself the biggest Harry Potter fan that posts on this board.
Unfortunately I think I take the nod on that one, heh.
Do you think that the movie ruins the book? or does it do justice? Many times movies become to Hollywood and they destroy the basic fabrics of the movie. I just wondered what you thought since you probably have read all the books and watched the movies?
I left the theatre on opening night of the last two disappointed both times, but after watching them numerous times since I can definitely say that the Potter movies have done the books justice thus far. There are certain parts of the books that I felt were important that were left out, which led to my disappointments, but thats the case of any book turned movie. I thought Prisoner of Azkaban was the best movie to of the series to date and really captured the maturity of the characters very well. I am also very interested to see what they do with Goblet. Not sure how you can fit that book into a two and a half hour film, but I guess I\'ll find out in November.

I have heard from numerous people that have read the books said they are very entertaining and flow well. I just have never read one of those books, so when I watch one of the movies, I can not honestly tell what is being followed from the book. Thanks for the reply KindM\'s.

Having read them all myself (and I dont really consider myself an avid reader) they are really good books. I found the writing to be very entertaining and was quite surprised by the adult themes that run through the story.
The 1st movie was very much like the first book pretty close and probably about as close as you could get with a 2hour movie etc. They left out a lot of stuff and sort pf trivialized Hermiones part in movie 1.
Since the 1st movie each subsequent movie IMHO has strayed further and further from the books. They do touch on a lot of the main themes but like most books, the books are always better than the movies.
