I know this is the samplers thread, but I thought I\'d share an email with you on the subject of Breakfast samplers/freebies given out by us diehards - it definitely works.

I passed on a copy of the Sully\'s DVD in a recent trade with a guy who runs the Mickey Jones (of Man) website. Just got this back:

"Thanks for the discs and the bonus DVD from "The Breakfast" which I
enjoyed, some great musicianship there! I\'m going to pass the DVD on to a friend
who likes that kind of stuff to have a listen to help spread the word."

I know that doesn\'t help over there, but we are doing our bit here for one when the great European trip ever happens! :)

I haven\'t heard much of their stuff, Jocelyn, but I like it. And I\'ll finally get to meet Gordo! :) They say there\'s strength in numbers, so maybe if there are 2 Breakfast diehards present at the same time, we can talk the owner into getting 2 nights at LBC (not happening, but whatever). If any of you are in Indiana for some reason or another, this venue is a gem and is a must-see.

i think the change makes it a lot lot better. i let it spin in my car yesterday and it has a much nicer flow, and all songs have top notch sound quality. it was hard to listen to escher\'s and LOTG after hearing four studio versions of unbelievable songs. trust me, i think it does a lot more justice to the word EPIC.

id actually like to send a copy out to anyone who wants it so they can spread.. i know a decent amount of people already have the other one but a change now wouldnt hurt anything. maybe it\'s different for me cuz i made the first one and wasnt happy with Escher\'s and Language. also the lack of Buquebus was called out, and rightfully so.

Chris, did you still want me to send you copies of the original 3? I can have them in the mail on Friday if you want.

"Breakfast Sandwiches"
perfect.
off the top of my head id go with some Score>Crosstown>Score, Mooboo\'s>No Quarter>Mooboo\'s, orrrrrr the Gladys>Score>Gladys>Score and Puppetry>Mooboo\'s>WUIAC>Mooboo\'s>Puppetry..  sooo many great tasty sandwiches though, so many.

good thinkin Spacey, itd show off their unmatchable jamming abilities.

I was thinking, about making a sampler, just for Breakfast Sandwiches from the past tour, entitled, The Breakfast, Sandwiches, Tasty grooves from the Real Radio tour. Kinda cheesy but, you get the point. I have a bunch of considerations as to what will make it on the disc but nothing finalized.

Has anyone else attempted to make a Breakfast sampler disc? I know the original idea was Gordo\'s but I believe that if more people attempted to make a disc and pass it out we could cover more ground. I am currently working on a sample disc, with the motivation and influence from Gordo, but nothing like his because it wouldn\'t be fair to him.

thanks buddy. it would be fair though, and i take it as a compliment. i agree, more people should come up with their own samplers with material that really grabs them personally, drop a line to the people you dish it out to like "track three 5 minutes in.... holy **** youll flip!" i also found that people need to hear EPIC first, or at least the big tunes, to grab hold when listening to their simpler (but not by any other band\'s standards!) rock or funk songs. Rufus still seems to be the undeniable noob favorite.

oh and kate, picked up my burner two days ago, they will be in the mail on monday morning.. i was gonna do it today but i broke my face last night.

Start looking for cheap blanks in the weekly flyers/advertisements for stores such as Office Max, Staples etc.

Last week I bought 200 blanks for $26 at Office Max.  I\'m considering the idea of using 100 of the recently purchased blanks for Breakfast promotion out here.

outstanding reception. people are telling me that Rufus is the best song theyve ever heard. EPIC gets by far the most talk, but im starting to struggle buying spindles constantly just to give em away. im going to High Sierra next week and i was hoping to bring about a hundred copies of EPIC and just dishing em out, but i also cant drop $60. by the way, i wanted to make a change on epic for improvements. i agree that Buquebus is a must, so i figured i could take out a jammed out version of Escher\'s, replace it with Bona Fide\'s version, then throw on a sick Buquebus and obviously remove the \'filler\' of Language. can anyone out there save Escher\'s parts 1 and 2 as the same track off of Bona Fide and then share the file with me? my burner puts a gap in between every track and that pause would **** me off.

for sure, the rhythm that Tim plays is funky too, along with his singing. ill just put the first half pre-jam as the last track on the funk cd and the jam>beyond as the first track on the rock cd!!

(joking, obviously)

Yeah I\'ll agree with you on the Gravity jams.

I was thinkin bout the bass and drums in the verses- undeniably funky.

I just don\'t like Earache. So my opinion on that one should probably bed disregarded.
Title: TB Samplers.. thoughts?
Post by: Gordo on May 31, 2005, 11:10:05 am
Score-- definitely couldve been on funk.. but timing let it fit on the rock.

Gravity-- i think it fits the rock cd better, plus timing i guess, again. the jam isnt so funky to me.

no Earache for Sir Psycho? after i listened to the 3.4.05 version of Earache i thought that it should DEF replace Sir, but hey i like the opinion--- esp. w/a no way involved.
 >>>ill stay then. i like to live dangerously.

now when im playing Gravity in my head though, the verses are really funky. i guess i was just thinking about the ridiculous jams lately that have a more prog-rock feel to em.
Title: TB Samplers.. thoughts?

Would have thought both Gravity and Score would go on the funk disc. Esp. Score.

after typing i realized i was definitely biased as far as the Lafayette show goes, buuut if youve downloaded youll understand that it was **** hot. i obviously wasnt at the Baja Bash but its one of my favorite shows and both 4.29.05 and 7.31.04 have excellent sound quality which played a major role. im going to make a switch though. taking out SirPsycho Sexy and throwing in the Earache My Eye from 3.4.05 ....   i know that it goes into May Fly so should i replace that one too?? have a seg? the thing is i considered the 3.4.05 May Fly originally but thought the Star Wars and Punky Reggae teases (from 4.29.05) might grab a noob very well. once again>> more thoughts?

oh, and if you didnt realize, Deuce/Bona/RR were mostly chosen for sound quality/tightness/vocal/horns(Score) purposes. thats why theyre so frequent. STL was especially chosen from Deuce b/c i like the UNinverted version much more. didnt go with studio Doughboy, Sleeping Beauty, Gravity versions b/c the jams i chose from them are waaay too good to pass by.

also just realized that the studio Garcian Fishbowl fits on ~EPIC~ in place of Language. yes or no?

whoa. was busy yesterday, didnt check the board. they call me Gordo -- the turkey jivin muff divin man -- here in chicago.. NO bj\'s from this cat.

dave-- buquebus wouldve gone on the EPIC most likely if it fit. it didnt, and i contemplated taking off a few songs on the other two discs to fit it, but after thinking i decided i couldnt throw on every mindblowing tune, this way whoever listens to these discs will later hear a Buquebus and think "holy ****, there\'s even more epic tunes?! yyyyyyyeeeeesssss....."

spacey-- i will PM in a moment. 10KL isnt looking so good, but im definitely gonna work at getting there as best i can. by the way, i raved about em on the 10KL board for a few days and people seemed intersted. there was some band called BUMP who posted on the board, after fans brought them (bump) up, and they were described as prog/funk/rock. they offered a free live sampler, i emailed them asking for a copy and put a note "hey people are saying youre prog/rock/funk. ive never heard ya but if thats your style you should hook up with the breakfast theyll be there and theyre **** sick."  reply: yyyeah, we know all about the breakfast. we\'re gonna send you a sampler but please dont expect anything mind-blowing. ummm, hope to see you there.                          ha!

freddie-- what do you mean? send copies through IM? i dont know, not good with that kind of **** but if you send me your addy ill send you copies.

zurflu-- good call on the Son Of Simpleton. point me in the direction of a good 1.5 minute i can download off Llama.

i will find out shortly what the peeps at work think of these tunes so far..

Breakfast Strategy but, I will take the BJ too.

People gotta see the Breakfast at this festival or it will be a failure. I mean people really have to be told to see the Breakfast at this festival.

This event obviously has the potential of being a major success for the band.  Good thinking on the promotional efforts to boost attendance and draw in new fans.  Attendance was a little light on the swing through \'middle America" and we would love to see more packed houses on the next run.

Throw in a 1.5 minute Son of Simpleton to close one of the disks with remaining space.

Hope the disks get a great reception from all the newbs.

i chose the best live version/sound quality/jams that fit all 3 categories as much as possible, i did use some studio versions which i know is breaking the rules but i had to (tunes like TFA, Mooboo\'s, Grand Scheme) so they got the point. im going to make a lot of copies and pass them out to people at shows in this area, im also gonna bring a batch to High Sierra and pass them out. so before i do that id like to consult with my fellow Breakfast Eaters and see if there is anything i absolutely should put on that isnt right now. please, give me your thoughts......... thanks.

by the way, all discs run at around 78 minutes total. i made sure to maximize the open space.
