Well, just driven back the 150 miles or so and will give you my thoughts (reaching for a fire-blanket;)):

Keller Williams: :jawdrop:

He only got a measly 45 minutes, but man did he use it well. I expected a more acoustic stripped down show, but we had 4 guitars, bass, keys and theramin. I knew it was going to be good when he broke into a mental Groove Is In The Heart second song. Other highlights were Sultans of Swing and a fantastc Boob Job, complete with theramin. Crowd lapped it all up and were bouncing along, with the result that when he finished the love, as they say,  was huge. Unfortunately no time for an encore. It was great for me to actually see how k-dub puts together the loops and I would put him up there in my list of top three solo performers I\'ve seen - alongside Daevid Allen and Tim Rose.

Particle: :sadban:

Where do I start? Talk about an over-rated band. Their opening piece - I hesitate to call it song as they didn\'t play one proper song all night and it was hardly a jam as it was based on a two chord vamp, going down to a one chord drone, only spiced up by some fairly good guitar work for the last few minutes - went on and on and on and on... and on for over 20 minutes (I know, I timed it!); there was no tension, no real direction, no variety of tone. That could also be said of the guitarist, who at times reminded me of when Dave Gilmour still played with some edginess, but after a while his sound was monotonous.

The rest of the set followed in the same vein - very average keyboard work, with lots of oscillators - I think the guy would love to replace Harvey Bainbridge in Hawkwind - and he was often out of time with the drummer, who to be fair was pretty tight, but uninspirational - workmanlike, is the term. The bassist rarely moved out of one position for each piece - Ron would rip him apart!! I left after one and a half hours as they were announcing the last song just before 10 pm. Maybe they played an encore, maybe not - frankly I don\'t really care! I wasn\'t the first to go by a long way - many started leaving after 45 mins or so. As I left I said to the security guy, who didn\'t look impressed with particle, that I\'d only come to see kw - he replied, "Most people did!!"

At least I had the RR party to listen to in the car on the way home - got me most of the way back, then followed that up with some vintage k-dub.

Interestingly enough, talking to a girl from Chicago  in the queue to get in, she reckons Umphreys are now bigger than the biscuits and will be the next big jamband. But then again, she was a big Particle fan!!

i wouldnt be surprised if they did some later set somewhere..pretty predictable jammin, but a good band. You know youre spoiled though if you enjoy the Breakfasts style because there arent too many acts out there that can compare. Enjoy your Euro jam band expreience !

Have fun Andy. Just clear your mind before Particle. The last 2 shows I saw from them were really good. Pleasantly surprised @ how much dancing I did. Service Charges Suck there just as much as here. Bummer.

Well, I\'ve decided I may as well go and have bought my ticket. Can you believe a service charge of 11.2%??
Will let you all know what I think sometime on Sunday.

LOve the earlier biscuits stuff, but not too sure these days - bit too techno at times and longer jams which don\'t go anywhere (no doubt they do if you\'re there and have ingested  something). In some ways, Particle seem to remind me a bit of early bisco, hence the request for bisco fans\' comments.

i agree, early bisco was definitely better. i havent seen them since 03 and those first couple tours that year were really good, but i just recently got some late 04 shows and was really disappointed. just like id do anything to go back to 91-94 to see Phish in their prime, Biscuits in 99.

but by far the most important ingredient in all of this is that The Breakfast is a reality, and theyre so good it makes me sick. soooooo happy that i missed the Bisco boat and not this one. my countdown for midwest dates is dwindling! :hehehe:

Will probably go anyway, and while I won\'t be taking gabe\'s advice to take some breakfast tunes for the troughs, will definitely be wearing my Breakfast t-shirt to spread the word. Just hope my copy of RR has arrived by then so I can wax lyrical about it - nah, will say it\'s great anyway - not going to be disappointed am ?? ;)

As for the first two items on the recipe for an evening with Farticle, can\'t see me needing them - doors are 7 pm with a 10 pm curfew. Yes, you did read it right, I said TEN pm curfew! :hscratch:

Still waiting  on a few of the bisco fans\' comments.

i personally love the biscuits... theyre different. first time i saw them i was really really surprised. i heard some of their studio stuff and never really liked it, couldnt get past barber\'s voice. but live it all seems to make sense. theyre as patient as any band and it usually works because they peak so well together. they also have written some pretty amazing songs (i.e. Haleakala Crater, Spaga, Hot Air Balloon, Morph Dusseldorf, Mulberry\'s Dream) just make sure youre physically prepared for a long, drawn out dance party, lots of peaks and valleys. dont get toooooo **** up off of that amster-stickyness, i was their last summer and the herb is -obviously- phenomenal, but with the legality and easy access i was basically just confused by about 9 or 10 pm every night.. did you know they sell peyote off the shelves?!?!

I guess you don\'t like them, Todd??

Thanks for the Particle critiques so far - keep \'em coming. Still waiting  on a few of the bisco fans\' comments.
When I saw them, I really liked them for the first three songs. Then I started not liking them....good musicians....just had build ups that just never seemed to go anywhere. Got to the point where I was expecting them to go somewhere really cool with the jams...and it just never happened. I will give them another chance next time I\'m able.

definately go man. particle is sick. i hope to catch them this summer with mickey, they\'re called hyrda. funny story actually. a few yrs ago i worked for a college radio station wgfr and a few of us went down and interview them for our station. they are really chill guys. we hung out with them before and after the show. charile is the best. anyways the thing is the guy who was supposed to tape the interview forgot to turn on the mic. so a couple weeks after we went and saw them again and them gave us some liners. tell ya the truth that radio station is probably the only one in that area who plays jamband type music, which means, a lot of the breakfast is getting some airplay.

For all that loot...
I suppose to you guys, $20 a ticket seems a lot for an unknown band, but here that\'s about the minimum for any band with even the smallest recording history. SCI cost me $25 and $30 a ticket. If The Breakfast came over, they\'d be the same amount, or more per ticket. You lot are spoilt with your $5-10 a show rate. (Not that I\'m jealous...)

\'Bout what I thought - not a band I could listen too that often probably, but I\'d be going more to see k-dub than them.

As for the second bit - suppose the wife wouldn\'t know!!! ;)

Don\'t want to start any major arguments here, but as I may be able to make it up to London next weekend for the Particle/Keller Williams gig - warm-up no doubt for their Amsterjam appearance - need to get the inside track on the band. It\'s only ?10 (c.$19) + booking fee for the gig but the diesel costs and bridge toll will be triple that. (Yeah, there is a ?5 toll on the main bridge into Wales!)

I know k-dub is pretty consistent from the various shows I have, but what about Particle? Have been streaming a bit of the most recent show on lma which doesn\'t sound too bad at all (guitarist seems pretty good - quite bluesy), but this show might be a one-off.

[I know I could have put this in the Amsterjam thread but figured a title like this might get some reactions ;) and I need to know by the end of the weekend for tickets etc]

TIA
