-
yeah, i saw that, it was like trying to **** in a trashcan when I went there. kids got no respect these days.
-
Also, last time someone put some things in the toilet that shouldn\'t have been there. It cost me hundreds of dollars out of my security deposit for a plumber to fix it.
Must have been someone from the Slow Gopher crowd.
Hopefully no one ruins the possibility of future UAC shows next time.
Hope the next bash is a great success!
Have any of you heard of turbine before?

Alright, apparently the word has spread in Fairfield that the last UAC show was a great night so people are already leaving me checks in my mailbox for this next one and spots are filling up much faster than last time. So I better open this up to you all before I reach capacity.
Same drill as last time. Either paypal me at terryob@optonline.net or mail me a check at the address below.
Terry O\'Brien
40 Exchange Place
Fairfield, CT 06825
(203)520-0311
PLEASE MAKE SURE TO INCLUDE YOUR NAME WITH YOUR PAYMENTS!!!!!
This show is 21+ ONLY with ID required at the door. Any help you can give me by letting me know if you see someone sneaking in without a wristband will be appreciated.
Also, last time someone put some things in the toilet that shouldn\'t have been there. It cost me hundreds of dollars out of my security deposit for a plumber to fix it. We almost got banned from this venue as a result. Don\'t let that happen again. I had to talk our way back into this place and don\'t know if I can pull that off again.
Just be respectful of the UAC while you\'re there and remember that it\'s a club that the members take seriously. So if you see anyone else ruining it for the rest of us then either stop them or else come find me so that I can.
OK, now that we have all the formalities out of the way....on to the good stuff. What kinds of beer should I get this time?
Last time the Sierra held out for the first set. The Bud keg was done by the middle of the second set but I brought in three 30-packs and that lasted through the rest of the night.
Thanks, everyone! Looking forward to seeing you all again!
-
the ink is dry on the contract with the band and with the hall. so now you can all mark your calendars. Saturday, April 9th it is!
There\'s no way I\'d miss this show! It\'s marked in blood right now on my calendar... I don\'t care what else comes up on that date, the UAC is where I\'ll be :disco:
-
the Breakfast and members of Deep Banana Blackout all on the same bill.
-
I\'m also trying to put together an all-day summer gig there as well. I\'m thinking of getting the Breakfast, Raq and members of Deep Banana Blackout all on the same bill. I\'ll keep you all posted with more details in the coming weeks.
Now this show would be ser!!! (did I just use ser???, now that\'s a sign i\'m reading this board too much)
-
Urban Fletch?? poor typing/brain skills
could have been worse. Urban Feltch doesn\'t exactly have a nice ring to it.
this new message board layout is going to take some getting used to. but I\'m digging the new look.
as far as opening bands go, the Breakfast made my decision easy for me. they requested a specific band to open for them. so now I don\'t have to deal with it anymore. :)
their name is Turbine. they look pretty good. here is their web site if you want to check it out: http://www.turbinemusic.com

I might have a solo guitarist play in front of the stage. But we\'ll see....

This seems pretty cool....
I am not a fan of camping shows. I just dont have the gear or the outdoor savvy. However I always entertain the possibility of hitting one, and it would definately have to be a northeastern afair...
To those who have been here before, is this a camp by your car thing or do you have to hike to your site?
I am still hoping upon hope for the TerryOB Breakfast Weekend..or show....or whatever....I drove past the UAC the other day just thinkin how amazing that night/show was......
-
I agree , what a great idea! How can we petition them just go and suggest?
-
Sounds like a good idea. Breakfast definitely needs more prominent spots! Let me know what I can do to help as the plans develop.
-
as for Break - Fast I see from the e-mail i got from Wormtown that the boys are playing strangeCreek on memorial day weekend. Why dont we all go (its only 35 bucks) and prior to that we petition to get the guys a headling spot on 1 of the nights. If we can get a large contingent there it would be a lot of fun.
I know that there are a few fans that go anyway so we already have a decent size group there now. Also perhaps Tim / a side project could do a morning set in the pavillion like others do. Striped down breakfast w/ the breakfast etc
http://www.wormtown.com is their website.
The festival is small and the camping is in the woods. It is held at a Boy Scout Camp and I go ever year. It is a lot of fun and I highly reccomend it. Oh it is in Greenfield, MA
-
Ditto-Need any help let me know.
-
Thanks Terry- You Da Man!!!!!!!!!!!! Just got home from work and saw this post. Let us know when to send the money, and I\'ll get right on it.
-
Alright, April 9th it is!
-
Oh, and I just realized April 30th is out of the question since I\'ll be seeing Trey at Jazzfest the next day.
-
dammit!
I forgot about the Bisco shows. Some of my friends will be there too.
I\'ll call tomorrow and see if I can switch back to April 9th. But the guy who rents the venue is getting pissed at me constantly switching back and forth so we\'ll see.
Glad I posted here. But that\'s why I started this thread...to make sure I pick the right date.
-
there would be no time to get from sayreville to ct after the biscuits leave the stage at 2 am.
Looks like i will be missing this party too. Hope the April show happens.
-
NOT BAD.AFTER BISCUITS ARE DONE,HOP ABOARD!
-
These are the only two bands that matter to me, but at this point I would have to be at the Biscuits show. I\'ve been seeing PB since \'01, but i\'ve been seeing the Biscuits since \'99. I\'m sorry to say this on this site ( I love you, Tim ) but.......... #1 biscuits, #2 Breakfast.
-
Biscuits Breakfast hmmmm. Not really a choice. Biscuits are EATEN for Breakfast.
-
WHINEBERG,NO NEED TO EXPLAIN..TELL YOUR BOYS TO RESCHUEDULE THE SHOW,OR COME TO TERRYS PARTY...
-
I\'ll be at the Biscuits that weekend, too. Already have the tickets, and it looks like they\'re gonna be Sammy\'s last shows, so... It looks like I\'m gonna have to miss another great Breakfast weekend
-
I can\'t help it. Me, Brownstein, and John The Barber go back a long way. Terry\'s last party was great, but I would have to miss it if he has it on that day. :( Rufus, Tribal, Karn Evil is quite a trifecta.......I would not want to miss the next installment.
-
WAIT,THE WHO?????
-
That is so bad. The Biscuits are playing in Sayerville that weekend. Those weeks in April sounded so much better!!
-
for those of you playing along at home, it\'s now looking more like March 26th. just giving you the heads up so you can plan accordingly. more details to follow in the next week or so.
-
i hope i can make it to your party(ies) this time around, terry! good call not having it same weekend as toads. i think it\'ll definitely boost attendence.

I decided not to have it on March 5th because of the Toad\'s show that weekend. don\'t want to hurt the attendance for that show.

this wekend is upstate all weekend if im not wrong..
-
any word on this weekend gathering?? Bring me back to the Ukranian Hall of Wonders...please
-
just my two cents, I have been to many festivals and none interest me anymore. But I must say a break-fast one would be great, I would think maybe somthing outside? camping? A nice family atmosphere??? just a thought maybe a different approach.
-
No.

that would be cool. but the summer festival market has been flooded the last few years. I don\'t know how well a Break-fest would do and wouldn\'t want to be the one to find out the hard way if it turns out to be a bad idea.

that\'s a big part of it. I\'d say about 40-50 people who showed up last time were friends of friends from the area who probably wouldn\'t have come just to see the band.
$20 open bar is a good deal in Fairfield County. I think I could get a fair amount of people there even without a band as long as there is unlimited drinks.
so I will need to have the band and the open bar. that\'s the only way I can draw enough people to pay for the hall.

if I cut out the open bar this next time and the same amount of people showed up then I\'d still need to charge $17 per person just to break even.
-
Not that you sounded it, but if you did you would be stepping on my toes a bit. You see........that\'s my job!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hmm i did sound a little whiney there. i dont mind paying any amount of money to see the breakfast. it was just a thought.

I wouldn\'t want to subsidize the costs of Freddie and Steve\'s booze if I was straight edge.

Mel, That is a great idea. The idea of having an open bar is great, but if people are gonna whine about ticket price for a "privately funded show" just because they don\'t drink, then why not cut out the booze all together?
Wild 30-Pack of Bud Cans Tour!!
Jim Cobb, I am not trying to be a dick regarding your post, however in my head the open bar is not even a factor. For someone to throw a party at a hall and have the breakfast play 2 sets is worth $30 whether they have a fully stocked bar (like last time) or if he only gets 2 bottles of Coke and a pitcher of iced tea. Yeah, regular breakfast shows are $10-$15 bucks or whatever, don\'t you think it\'s worth the extra money for Terry? He is taking all the risks....
-

granted, seeing the breakfast is worth any amount of dough i\'d have to dish out, however, i dont drink, so the open bar means nothing to me, and i would feel a little jipped paying thirty bones and only getting half the deal. maybe a slightly lower price for us nondrinkers (i know... few and far between), and then no wristband for us, maybe just a handstamp, and then the bartender can actually check the wristbands. just a thought. not sure if that adds too much hullabaloo.
-
Thanks guys, but can\'t do anything for a few months - looking like later in the year. Nice to see some support, though.

Awww, there she goes, throwing the curve off. sheesh

uh, youre wrong on one account stevie!

God, I wish I could get over for this. $30 a head for band and unlimited beer would be a steal by British prices (and due to strong ? v $)!! Even a brand new pub band would charge at least ?2-3($5) for their first gig. I can remember the first band I was in after college: we charged ?1($2) in advance and ?2 ($4) on the door and were told we had to guarantee 100 people for a Tuesday night or else have to pay for the hire of the room. We managed 96 and had a good night, but this was 14 years ago.
However, given that most of the band\'s fans are probably not able to find $50-60 within two days ($30 for party plus entry to Toad\'s and beers on the Friday), especially if they are students/unemployed, then it would seem to make sense to do it a different night.
On the other hand, back-to-back Breakfast is what I\'ll be trying to find when I eventually get over there, so what do I know?!!!
-
I dont think the Breakfast has fans that are "light drinkers" or cant hang 2 nights in a row....
A Ser Band With Ser Fans!
-
good ideas todd however remember to 1st weigh the cost-benefit analysis of the price increase; $60 for us, hypothetically speaking, or for light drinkers, would be prohibitive.
-
Make the party what it was last time- word of mouth. No flyers and such- that only brings in possible trash and headaches (ala Annex Club). Maybe flyers with directions only handed out to select peeps at Toad\'s, so then you are not advertising the date. Make the entry 30 beans- still a steal for an open bar with the best band out there. Dedicate a BUNCH of people for wrist band checking, to make sure there are no freeloaders like last time. (And yes, I volunteer) I really don\'t think this would affect the Toad\'s show noticeably at all.
Just my two schillings worth
-
definitely.
ours was a sunday night where the monday was a holiday and had decent turnout, may be another option though does make it more risky for you.

These people would most likely need to make a decision between the two and I would venture to say that most from the lower ffd county area would opt into the party rather than driving all the way to toads. honestly, thinking back to when i was planning matts party, we were not allowed to promote it at all because there was a toads show the same month. now you\'re talking the night before. is it worth the risk that a)it may take away from the possibly higher paying gig at toads for the boys and b)you may decrease your chances of return on your own investment?
so why not make it the following weekend or something?
Yah, i agree for those that can hack it and can make life arrangements to stay out all night 2 in a row it would be a superlatively (thought exhaustive) good time... BUT...
Point taken. I have considered all of those things. And the band and their agent are discussing those issues right now. They might not agree to play the party for the reasons stated above.
And I would LOVE to have the Breakfast play another weekend than March 5th but there isn\'t one free until the summertime and even those weekends I can\'t book this far ahead of time because they don\'t know what their tour looks like yet.
We\'ll see how it works out. It\'s really the band\'s decision so we\'ll have to let them decide what is the best solution.
-
Mel, great point/counterpoint..........
however
Timmy Tour 2004 proved to me that I could go out 5 nights in a row for just about a whole year and still be productive at work and in life.....so I say "BRING ON WHAT YOU CAN DISH OUT...I AM READY"

steevie, because if fans know that theres an open bar freeforall the next night, some wont go to toads...thatll hurt the draw and hurt the bands reputation...get it?btw.645 and counting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

A back to back breakfast weekend (toads>UAC) would be **** sweet. I don\'t understand the whole "this show effects the attendance of that show", but I guess thats why I am not in the music booking business......
I would be at both, flyering the **** out of Toads for the UAC show.
March MADNESS is comin!
Ter, would you get a different opener for UAC?
-
Likewise.
-
terry, ill help and still pay to get in..i appreciate the offer though..
-
Count me in.
-
im just scared that this might really hurt the draw from toads and that wont be good for the boys....however,if its confirmed, ill start wearing the shirt again until the party and well raffle it off!
-
Follow up question....I\'ve been told by teh Breakfast\'s agent that if I do put this show together then I won\'t be allowed to advertise it outside of Toad\'s before the show. However, I was told that I can hand out flyers INSIDE Toad\'s during the Breakfast show and AFTER the show outside of Toad\'s.
If some of you would volunteer to help me advertise at the Toad\'s show then I think I\'d have better luck at drawing a decent crowd the following night. I will offer you free admission the Southport show in exchange for your work.
I\'d like between 2 and 3 people to help me pass out flyers and spread the word to people all night at Toad\'s. Any takers?
-
If you bring it, they will come!
-
back to back is a badass fact, a claim that remains IN TACT!
bring it.
-
:awwyeah: BRING IT ON!!!

Hey Now,
Happy New Year, everyone! Hope you all had a blast at the Breakfast/Creek NYE show. I was at the Higher Ground in VT but a big part of me was wishing I was in New Haven that night. I\'m sure it was a good way to kick off 2005 right.
Anyways, I come to you all again with yet another idea I\'d like to put on the table to see what kind of response it will get. As many of you know, I\'m planning a repeat performance at the UAC in Southport but I\'m wondering how many people would go if the show took place the night after the Breakfast plays at Toad\'s.
The date I\'m looking at booking the boys is Satruday, March 5th. They are already scheduled to play Toad\'s Place on Friday, March 4th.
Would you all rather see the Breakfast back to back nights or should I wait until a different weekend so you\'ll all have time to recover from Toad\'s before you get your second helping? I need to give an answer in the next day or two. Let me know what you all think.
P\'s,
