do you have to pay a monthly fee?

yes and no...

you have to buy 1 cd per month (though you could join up, order a bunch of stuff, and cancel right away if you wanted to).. you can create a queue, and put a bunch of cds you want in there.. every month, yourmusic will just send you the next CD in your queue, and bill your card $5.99 ($6.99 starting 1/1). there\'s no commitment though..

also, here\'s a tip - yourmusic requires only a unique email address to create a new account. if you cancel your account, you\'ll get an email soon after, asking you to come back, and they\'ll give you a free cd if/when you do.. so for those of you who are members and have multiple email addresses, it might be worth it to cancel your account, open up a new one with another email, and wait for that free cd email to come.. then just cancel the new account, rejoin, etc. you\'ll also end up getting that email at your *other* email address.. :)

only downside to that is, if you have a lot of stuff in your queue, you lose it..

Everybody better stock up before New Years!! $5.99 is going up to $6.99.

yeah, i was kinda pissed when i got the email, but i\'m not going anywhere.. you still can\'t find a better deal than $6.99 shipped per disc.. i still have 30-something cds in my queue.. i\'ll probably pick up a few of those before the price change, but it doesn\'t bother me too much..

though it would be wise to go after any box sets you might want before the price increase..

After not posting for a few months one forgets that just because a thread is at the top with a reply of today does not mean it was started within the last week, whoops.

just wanted to give this thread a bump for this dangerous website. ;)

they actually have really good prices on box sets too, and they carry some SACDs for $5.99.

check this out:

The general consensus seems to be that the best deals on YourMusic.Com are the boxed sets, since those normally cannot be purchased as enrollment selections in the normal BMG deals.

In the interest of finding out what the best deals are on yourmusic.com, I\'ve compiled a matrix of the boxed sets, their prices and a comparison of the prices vs. the Amazon.Com CD Club pricing (the best online competitor I\'ve found that isn\'t fly-by-night).

Here are the notes I put on page 1:

Quote
These matrices display the savings on boxed sets from YourMusic.Com. I checked several online vendors for pricing, including BestBuy.Com, DeepDiscountCD.Com, and CDConnection.Com, and found that almost universally, the best online prices came from Amazon.Com, if you signed up for their CD Club, so rather than expend extra effort for higher-priced vendors, I opted to use Amazon as a "best case" comparison.

Even then, YourMusic.Com beat Amazon by a large margin on the vast majority of titles.

The pricing I\'ve provided from Amazon for comparison is current as of February 5, 2005. I only used pricing from Amazon itself (or its CD Club where cheaper). I did not use pricing from the "used and new from $x.xx" affiliated sellers.

Yes, you may be able to get this merchandise cheaper by buying used merchandise on Ebay, Half.Com, or Amazon, but that\'s not really a fair comparison. I wanted to compare new merchandise from an established vendor only.

The number in parentheses behind the title is the number of discs in the boxed set (or at least the number that YourMusic.Com uses to calculate their price). The leftmost column of prices is from Amazon.Com; the second column is YourMusic.Com\'s price; the third column is the raw dollar savings;
and the last column lists the YourMusic.Com price as a percentage of Amazon\'s price (lower means greater savings).

NOTE: The YourMusic.Com prices assume you got in at the special $4.99 rate, not the $5.99 rate. If you missed out on that deal, you will still
see extensive savings, just not as much. Add $1 per disc to the YourMusic.Com total.

The YourMusic.Com prices include shipping, but not sales tax (where applicable). With Amazon, usually if your order is $50 or more, shipping is free,
so the overall price comparison is valid.

The first listing lists all of the box sets in semi-alphabetical order.

The second listing is sorted by raw dollar savings, highest first.

The last listing is sorted by percentage, lowest first (greatest savings).

I hope you find this useful!

If I only had some cash... this would be a poor decision for a college student who is sans job when at school.  Maybe by the time I can afford it, they will all be down to $2.99.

I don\'t know what you mean by them not having much of a selection. Just spent 45 minutes on there and loaded up on **** loads of cds. Every time I thought I had seen them all, I came up with a bunch more. I still don\'t think I\'ve seen the whole site. "Just gotta poke around"

Thanks for the link Dave!!

all cds are $4.99 when you sign up thru this link:

For those that already signed up, just go into "your account", go down to the "manage your account" link, then check the box to cancel your subscription. This cancels it immediately. According to the Terms of Cancellation: All orders placed before canceling your subscription will be fulfilled, shipped and charged to your credit card number. No other Music Queue items will be charged or shipped to you. If you wish to cancel any backordered cart items, you can do so in the Order History section prior to canceling your account. It sounds like you should make sure your first queued selection from your original sign-up has shipped already before you do this. After quitting the subscription, come back here and click on the above link again to make everything $4.99! If your cookies still identify you and it doesn\'t show the $4.99 price, just sign out, then reclick the link and it should work. I just re-signed up for a new subscription using the exact same payment info and it worked fine (the only different thing you need to provide is a different email address to register a new account as the site uses your email address as your log-in name).

EDIT: $4.99 link no longer working..

exactly.. it\'s pretty much the same selection as BMG (which has always pissed me off, because i would LOVE to use it to fill in my beatles/zappa holes), but like you said joce, there\'s still a lot there that you could find for $5.99..

Yeah the selection is really bad... But, there are definitely some albums  I will pick up from there. They have a lot of the basics that should be in the foundation of my collection but just aren\'t...

sounds like a good deal, but my god does the selection suck.

searched for grateful dead, all that came up was \'skeletons from the closet\' and \'dylan and the dead\'!
no pink floyd, no zappa - but they do have some of the pearl jam 2000 boots :P

Yourmusic.com

this is a new site by BMG, but it\'s not a club.. all CDs are $5.99, with free shipping. you can either fill up a queue, and pay $5.99 a month, and each month they\'ll send you the first cd in your queue, OR, you can purchase unlimited CDs for $5.99 each at any time. you have no obligation, and can cancel anytime.. cancelling as easy as going to \'my account\' on their website and clicking \'cancel\'..

they also have a number of CD/DVD sets for $5.99.. do an album search for DVD to see what they have..

pretty cool..
