Don\'t I get any say in the matter? And I thought Freddie would be the one to start **** (he always is), not you Steve( putting my name in red no less). Any way, I\'m honored, I just want to make sure Pete the Fan stays Pete the Cousin to me.
Seriously though, I knew Jim Mc Donald for a long time (we always called him Elvis) and I was really saddened at the loss, he was good people. I should\'ve been at BAR on Monday; sorry I missed it.

I have to say that it was great to see so many people there last night. Everywhere I turned I saw a friendly/familiar face. In spite of the way the evening ended, I had a good time playing with all the other artists.
Beth Patella went on first doing all original work. She dated Jim for 2 years prior.
Kelly Kancyr was next doing some originals and covers. I knoe she finished her set with "Angel" by Sarah McLachlan.
I was next doing All Things Must Pass, Dry Your Eyes, San Francisco, Ripple, and Forever Young
Rick Landino and the Criminals did Ain\'t No sunshine and a kick ass version of Rocky Raccoon. He was joined by Derf on keys and Schumacher on bongos. The line-up also contained Mike Koperwhats, Kelly Kancyr, and Marty & the Fox (Roxanne) on percussion.
Alex Foglietta went on after and did a version of the Beatles "Oh Darling"
Schumacher was next. 41, Redemption Song, some originals, I joined him for Don\'t Mess Around with Jim, Me & Julio, and another original.
Paper Chaser took the stage (Rick Landino, Sean Miller, Mike Ferrara, and Bob Ferrara) and we did 4 original tunes from back in the day.
Murder Van topped the night with 4 blaring originals and finished the set with Dancing in The Moonlight by Thin **** Lizzy. I joined them on guitar and vocals for that one.
All in all, Jim would have been proud.

Nice reprise zing on The Hat, but last night cant be compared to the freakout...... Last night was special in it\'s own way. And the music was truly inspired, but almost as SER as the Freakout???? COME ON now ;) !!!!

Wow! Is it Wednesday again already? TGIW :)
I had a BLAST @ the gig last night... Freezing my ASS off in my new pseudo-rabbit attire, meeting molly, and losing my laundry $$ to Roger made it a night that will not be soon forgotten.
And the music was indeed phan-tastic. Seanaldo plays a SER Forever Young, and Shroommacher did a great job on Redemption Song.
It was almost as SER as the Freakout...wish you\'d been there, Pete - maybe next year ;)

35 if I\'m not mistaken. Just a young pup
especially compared to you.dirty old man@!!!@@@@!!

That sounds right from what I remember. I did an online search for an obituary but could only find people from the early 20th century named Jim/James Mcdonald.

Conga Jim Show Recap:
Jedi all up in your face last night. there were a bunch of musicians playing originals and covers. The bittersweet night of music was well received and well attended. There was a true vibe of love, compassion, and life in BAR last night.
Some memorable moments:
Solo Jedi: All Things Must Pass, a SER Neil Diamond tune, Forever Young
Scumacher and Friends: Ian on congas for a fantastic rendition of Rocky Raccoon
The last band to play was a heavy nirvana-esque trio who were raging loud. so loud that when Ian went up to them during a tune to tell them to turn it down, the drummer, threw his drumsticks up in disgust, got off his stool, and flipped off the entire place. It was an emotion packed ending to a very emotional evening.....

Jim played congo with the band at one of the butterfield shows.
I helped run that open mic w/Rick at 50 Fitch Street Pub. That was where Jim made his name so-to-speak...

he was never a part of th eband but i certainly do recall him playing with the band on several occasions...ill see ya there jedi!
-
He played with the breakfast the first couple times I saw the band in 1999 so I thought he was part of the band for a month or two. I remember him as being a very friendly and energetic guy.

I wanted to send out an invitation to anyone and everyone to attend the Memorial Show for Jim McDonald, who passed away suddenly on Halloween. Some of you knew him, and some didn\'t. But he was a conga player who frequently jammed with several local musicians, including Tim and myself.
The event is being held Monday, November 8th at BAR; 254 Crown Street, New Haven at 8 pm. It will be held in the back room, there is NO cover charge to get in. The evening will feature the following musicians:
Rick Landino
Kelly Kancyr & her Band
Jim Harper
Sean Miller
Brother Diggs
Ian Schumacher
Beth Patella
Fred Di Leone
Murder Van
It should prove to be celebration of a man who brought a smile to the face of everyone he knew. He was a friend to me, and he always made me laugh. I encourage all to come by.
Peace
