I\'m annoyed with my computer. I have been trying to burn cds for the last week so I can bring some music to people at the Porter\'s show. They haven\'t been burning more than 50% of the contents of the disks before failing. Any suggestions or explanations?

:banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:
just got home with my computer. i know i\'m jinxing myself by saying it is running better now than it has for at least two months. my buddy is the man!!!
-
paul - don\'t worry about it. i don\'t even know the status of that drive yet, cause i\'m more worried about my C drive right now. didn\'t have time to do much with it this weekend either.. ugh.. hopefully tomorrow.
-
hey peck, remeber a while ago I burned tons of stuff off your mp3 drive to disc? still got those discs, so you havent lost everything! I\'ll be down that way monday evening if you want me to drop them off.

i finally gave up on my piece of **** and just got back from dropping it off at my buddies house. he\'s an nt guy with loads more knowledge and resources than me. if anyone can fix it, he\'s the one!! hopefully tomorrow night can be a productive night of working on photos.

well i\'m looking to be pretty fuct on my c drive.. here\'s what i\'ve been through...
i unplugged cables from everything, except my C drive. same error.
i tried using BOOTCFG, even though the ATTRIB command wouldn\'t work on the boot.ini file.
---
first i tried BOOTCFG /list:
There are currently no boot entries available to display. is this bad news?
---
i then tried BOOTCFG /rebuild:
Scanning all disks for Windows installations.
Error: Failed to successfully scan disks for Windows installations. This error may be causef by a corrupt file system, which would prevent Bootcfg from successfully scanning. Use chkdsk to detect any disk errors.
Note: This operation must complete successfully in order for the /add or /rebuild commands to be utilized.
---
ran chkdsk:
The volume appears to be in good condition and was not checked. Use /p if you want to check the volume anyeay.
---
ran chkdsk /p
got up to 50% (took a long time), then returned the following:
The volume appears to contain one or more unrecoverable problems.
****.

boombox if u need a copy of win98SE or win2k or XP pro let me know
-
well, i\'ve narrowed my problem down to a boot sector virus (i think anyways} rebuilding right now......(keeping fingers crossed)
-
Guess what - mine\'s playing up too, has been for a week or so. Must be a Hallowe\'en thing!!!
Got it running now though my os is corrupted somehow and won\'t reload properly. As I don\'t have any of my driver/system discs (2nd hand pc from my dad who lost them!!) have had to persevere with a corrupted version of Win98. At least it works, though I get Explorer crashes regularly, which do little other than to p*** me off - I can download and burn so at least I\'m operational. (Can\'t use Nero or Smart FTp though, or any download manger at all) Oh for the cash to replace this machine.

GET A ROOM!!!sorry dave!
-
yup, ntfs.. probably won\'t even look at it again till tomorrow. delaying the inevitable i think..

LAME.
Was it NTFS or FAT32 ? My guess is NTFS
That really sux

here\'s my situation, in depth.. haven\'t messed with it at all today yet.. too frustrated..
XP Pro / SP2
came home yesterday to one of those \'delayed write failure\'s on one of my secondary drives. rebooted.
drive was clicking, and gave me an error message (primary slave failed, etc). removed drive. rebooted.
XP booted ok, but was acting weird - some programs wouldn\'t run.. rebooted.
XP won\'t load at all. i get an error message saying windows\\system32\\hll.dll is missing or corrupt; windows cannot load. please reinstall this file.
i cannot boot into safe mode.
i took the drive out and put it in my wife\'s pc (as a secondary drive) to try to copy hll.dll over. however, i get the old \'this drive is not formatted. would you like to format now?\' clicked no, put it back in my pc. same error message about hll.dll when booting.
ugh.

seems kind of coincidental that both of you having windows problems. Dave any idea what would have caused both HDD\'s to **** the bed ? Kind of unheard of to have 2 fail so close to eachother.
Do you have a 2nd machine that you can put the HDD\'s in as slaves to see if u can even get in to the drive at all ?
Hope it wasn\'t virus related etc.

Ha, very, though unfortunately ironic, I came home from work today myself and rebooted my computer to do some heavy photoshop work on the freakout band shots and my computer wouldn\'t load winows............ugh............gave up after 3 hours of trying to fix it, went to a friends house and then to pencildick\'s show. Now it can\'t even get past bios loading. If it wasn\'t for my laptop, I\'d be **** outta luck.
Well, tomorrow\'s another day. Hopefully I won\'t spend my entire friday night dealing with yet another bill gates nightmare!!!
-
Luckily my last computer crisis occured at work so my company had to deal with it. Hope you aren\'t up all night. Good luck!
-
just for the record.
long story short, came home today to what looks like a crashed hard drive (not my main drive, BUT, my mp3 drive with ALL of my cds on there), but before i could even look into that problem, my main drive is now giving me balls about booting. working on getting it figured out now, but ugh... i don\'t need this.
just wanted to rant a little. carry on.
