I have informed the Band that it is in their best interests to move the website as quick as possible. I have done all I could to try and convince Gray to return the domain. To no avail. Gray\'s father has passed but I believe this is no longer an excuse and he now just has grudges against certain non band individuals which he seems to be using to delay transfer of the domain.
As none of us have anything to do w/ this transfer I suggest we leave the topic be  and let the Band\'s management deal w/ this as it falls to them now.

I didn\'t realize Gray\'s father passed.  The last time I spoke with Tim regarding the website he was less than thrilled about the lack of communication.  This was almost a month ago.  Did Gray\'s father die within the last few weeks?

Now the great big fiery ball in the sky is hitting all corners. Oh, he\'ll hand it over alright...for a fee that will never be payed.
Think bubba and his buddies are gonna take a ride to Fairfield soon. :slap:
Thing is, it should have been transferred over ages ago. He was asked to obtain that domain while the band was on the road....while he was working FOR the band.

So wait a minute... I think I am just now catching on..... is the whole issue that Gray owns the domain name (http://www.thebreakfast.net) and won\'t let the band have it?  If this is the case, that is a major dick move.  Plain and simple.  Personal troubles or not.  I mean, business is business, but I always got the impression that he was more like a friend to the band... does he own the site as well?

if Gray wants room and doesnt want to come around, whch is totally fine by me considering i could see through his \'life is war\' mentality, he should free himself from this by selling the band the domain and letting them continue on with their business and him his. And not responding to anyone is a typical Gray move. I do feel bad and tried calling him to express sympathy but theres only so much you could feel for the kid when he drops friends like a prom dress

We\'ll see...every website ever that "hoped to be up by the end of the week" wasn\'t up for at least 3 more months.  The Agency Group has gotta have some hired muscle waiting in the wings...maybe they could go have a little chat with the former grassroots coordinator.

TheBreakfast.net is hosted on the same server as my site was up until a couple days ago. Fortunately, I OWN my domain and was able to transfer to a reliable server (cough, cough). Unfortunately, until the band is able to acquire what is legally their own, they are **** out of luck.

Love watching her put those juvenile deliquents in line!

However, the fact that he won\'t give the domain name to the band is really, really wrong. Definite **** move; hard to excuse that.

Ok, enough of this! Moving right along....

anybody who has ALL the facts can go ahead and hammer anybody who deserves it WITH the facts....but the facts as i perceive them are that EVERYONE involved with this whole thing has been acting like spoiled children. half of this **** would never have happened if things were done proffessionally, not emotionally or impulsively (like children do). i havn\'t stuck up for anyone, only called em like i saw em. the groove was clearly grays passion and for him to be so erratic about it lately, only shows me that he\'s hurting and confused at the moment about bigger things. if saying that he deserves some room on that means i\'m sticking up for him....then so be it. has the breakfast organization even acknowledged his loss?the facts are that i don\'t know....but i doubt it.

Gotta agree with leith - before everyone starts going beserk, give gray a chance to explain all as/when he can.

As a result, looks like we got our wish - pbfans is now the prominent link on the site!!

looks to be back up at the moment. i just pulled a mirror of the entire site locally, in case anything happens again, so all the content is safe..

got this email last night (etree mailing list).. a bit of an explanation i guess:

Code: [Select]
[b]Subject: [bt-easytree-org] STG gone. ...Letter
Date: Tue, 21 Sep 2004 18:12:16 -0000

Hi all, I wanted to post here because I am really at a loss as to
what to do. In case you don\'t know, I\'m Andy, the short-lived new
server admin for the Groove.

The real reason the site went down less than a day after coming back
up was due to lack of payment of the $500+ server bill, and the
Planet pulled the network cables. This morning after giving Gray a
generous amount of time to pay, The Planet submitted a ticket to have
the server department reclaim all three STG servers, which I assume
also means they are going to completely wipe all data from the
servers. There are no backups of the forum database on any external
servers. Perhaps I should have done that, but I had no reason to
believe the financial situation was anything but OK.

I wasn\'t working for free and Gray had promised to pay for my admin
services. Of course, I\'m too trusting and failed to have him sign a
contract, so I ended up working over 30 hours on the site for
nothing. Gray won\'t return my phone calls, emails, or IMs.

I\'ve called the Planet and the final word is that unless they receive
the full amount by 4pm Central time today (9/21), all the data will
be gone. They wouldn\'t tell me exactly how much is owed though. Gray
is aware of this deadline; the account manager told me she spoke to
him this morning.

Oh also I wanted to say... I have been trying to stay out of the
politics of this community as best as I can. I\'m really just a
neutral third party here and I\'m sorry for anything that might have
pissed you off at me. I was only doing what Gray wanted.

I\'m sure the story I\'ve heard from Gray isn\'t the whole story, and
maybe no one knows the whole story, but the reason I\'m posting now is
that I feel the community deserves some explanation.

Even though I don\'t have any real vested interest in the Groove, I
think it\'s very sad to see a site die this way, especially one as
huge as the Groove. I couldn\'t believe how many people logged on
within minutes of the site coming back online. I couldn\'t believe how
hard that server was getting hammered by over 800 people logging on
to the forum. At the very least, I think the site needs to be
transferred to someone who has the time and dedication to run it, if
Gray is no longer willing to do it. I can understand if Gray wants to
let it go, but he owes it to the thousands of members not to let it
die. Pay the final bill, get the data off, and give it to someone
else. That\'s all I want to see.
