Title: RADIOHEAD??
Post by: FrankZappa on October 11, 2003, 05:03:57 am
they could very well be following set guide lines while varying the setlist. if there is no jamming and the song is preformed the same way night after night, as long as the crew knows what order the songs are going to come in, they can still do things by the books. eith way its a sic show

wow. it\'s safe to say that they blew me away.. this was my second time seeing radiohead - the first being in 1994 at Toad\'s Place, so it\'s really like apples and oranges..

definitely one of the best live bands around right now.. great energy.. while i\'m still sort of a radiohead noob, i knew most of the songs they played, and was quite happy with what i heard. i thought 10 songs off HTTT was a bit much, but i wasn\'t disappointed. 2+2 was a predictable opener, but i wanted to hear it in that spot badly - what a way to start a show...

other highlights for me were backdrifts, the gloaming (incredible live - blows the album version away!), idioteque, HtDC, and KP...

the crowd was really into it - a lot of **** (radioheads? readioheadheads??) there.. i was very surprised at the number of hotties there - didn\'t expect to see as many as i did.. unfortunately though, we were in that section.. you know, we had that couple in front of us (the ones that made out through the entire show), that girl in back of us (the one that should have thought twice about wearing a shirt that didn\'t cover her gut, and had an ear-piercing scream that she decided to use every 5 seconds throughout the night), and those kids behind us, who thought it was a good idea to talk to each other about the islanders the whole time...

all and all though, it was great, and i\'m looking forward to tonight. got to bed at 2:45, and woke up at 4:45... if i\'m not in great shape right now, i should definitely be feeling nice by tomorrow morning.. ugh.. oh well..

Dave if you look @ the setlists u posted closer you will see the similarities. L.A. was set up for, well L.A.  The lighting board used by Radiohead\'s LD is a Wholehog II. It has the ability to store a gripload of shows. Most LD\'s myself included, like to keep maybe 10 full shows in a Wholehog II w/ no expansion pack. This seems to be what Andy is doing as he can have set shows and Thom can tell him what show it is that day. Now this is not to say the LD is never surprised but there is a set # of songs being played on this tour for sure. The setlists in L.A. are probably what will be played this tour.  Just so u know if ya go :)

Just so everyone knows, my post was not meant to dis Radiohead I am just giving a clear look @ what I experienced. Radiohead have even admitted to playing their songs a certain way with little to no improv playing so I can see how this lends to a scheduled type show.

I was Thom Yorke\'s spotlite guy last nite. He is so energetic. It was my 1st time seeing these guys. IMHO,they make great albums, live they need work. I only got into them maybe 5 years ago and love the newer work. The songs they played off Hail to the Thief were absolutely insane!!! I have a bunch of friends that were working also who r INTO this band and they were blown away by the chances being taken during the show. Songs from KID A were torn down and recreated in an torrid cyclone of sound.
The lighting was crazy:) I love to see live shows and for never seeing thse guys I thought overall it was probably worth what people paid . If I knew the music better I would post a setlist. Suffice it to say, the same show is played except the choice to start the encore is a choice of 3 songs. If this band ever decided to open up ANY of their songs, I think many people would be surprised @ what came out.
Thom Yorke is a wiggin\' tripper!

how could you not like amnesiac and hail to the thief? I think those are the best two. I am not really into pablo honey either, or the bends.  in  order my favorites are hail to the theif, amnesiac, kid a, ok computer, the bends, pablo honey. i would be pretty hard to rate them if i just started listening to them  recently and got the albums all at once., but i pretty much got them as they came out.

i wish i had tickets to msg, but i blew it when they went on sale. i didnt get to see them in august either because i think they were playing around here a couple days before berkfest and the day after berkfest and i could not afford to spend that much money in such a short amout of time. it would have been fun to go see radiohead > pb > berkfest > radiohead with no days off though.

I did make it to that show in june at the beacon that mtv taped and gave away $2 tickets for. people were out front willing to spend over $1000 to get tickets that did not even guarantee admission. A lot of people were turned away because mtv was using up the whole second floor and part of the lower level and upper balcony for their camera crew. i got inside before the doors opened without even having to wait in line because i knew a guy who worked down there. I got walked in past security while leonardo decaprio and other famous people actually had to stand in line, so that was a pretty cool. We also got free beer all night too and leo probably had to pay $7 a cup.

It was kind of wierd since they were taping for mtv. Some guy from mtv got on stage and annouced the band and had everyone cheer, but they did it an hour before the show and told everyone what to do. They did a few takes and i guess they used the best one and edited it so that it looked like everyone was cheering as the band walked on stage. It was a cool show though. They played one set and then several encores that were at least as long as the first set all together. It was probably my favorite show of the summer after the flaming lips at berkfest or PB at toad\'s.

I can\'t believe I actually said I don\'t like The Bends. It\'s great. Since that last post, I\'ve listened to it many times and I must say that it\'s a tremendous album. Currently, my list goes Hail to the Thief, Kid A, OK Computer, The Bends, Amnesiac, Pablo Honey. But there\'s more research to be done. I need to hear all of them, except the new one, many more times. And I will. Thanks to Tim for letting me borrow Computer, Amnesiac, and Pablo.

First off, Chris,  a) you should be impressed I am enlightening myself with this forum board because it will give me a chance to actually talk to people who understand music other than TOOL.  (plus my DC forum board does get a bit boring, i must admit.)

b)  I finally bought the new Radiohead album, all in part to your pitching of it.  The sample you played in your room one me over.  So I purchased it.  And I have been listening to it 24/7.  (I needed something now since I have no 104.)

Anyways, I also would love to hear some feedback from the show.  I think I\'d be willing to travel to see them if they played somewhere else on the east coast.  Does anyone know where the tour is headed?

Glad there was some positive feedback. My experience with this album will force me to buy all of their other albums--besides Hail to the Thief, I have just Kid A. So over the next few weeks, I\'ll be researching. I\'ve heard OK Computer and like it, but do not like The Bends. Any opinions on other Radiohead albums? Also, and I have no idea no long it will be, but I will definitely see Radiohead the next time they come around. I have a feeling you guys are gonna get your ass kicked by them live. Please review.

I am SO pumped for this Radiohead show on Wednesday!  I\'ve never seen them.  Just got my tix on EBay a couple of days ago.  Went out and bought "I Might Be Wrong" album yesterday, it\'s all live Radiohead, and man it sounds SWEET!  Looks like they\'ve got some MSG shows in October (sold out already).  Also, intruigingly, there is this one site that lists a show at the Brooklyn Academy of Music on October 14th, http://www.greenplastic.com/gigography/index.php?year=2003

but EVERY other Radiohead tour dates listing I can find does NOT list this show.  Weird.  Radiohead.com does not help at all either.  If this is a real show, I want to know about it!  Man, I am more pumped for this than I was for any of these Phish shows!
