You will be able to buy CDs at the Toad\'s show. The March 15th is street date for retail stores.
There are no cover songs on the CD. the two on the sampler were stricly done for that CD. There are no plans for them to appear on any other official CDs at this point, so get one for your collection if you are into that.
The BEST cover song...(IMHOP) that we cut has not been released. We will probably release it to the web site soon. We almost put it on the CD, we didn\'t think it was up to the rest of the CD.
For the most part we do the covers for fun and to give fans something that they wouldn\'t get if they didn\'t follow the band pretty closely. We know that some folks might like this better than that, but what\'s new...people always have fav songs and ones that don\'t work for them. Hell....there were some Beatle songs I hated.....
Whatever....we appreciate your support and plan to bump this thing up a whole bunch with the release of this record. We spent far more time on the writing structures and vocals than ever before, and I think it shows. The cover is also killer.
Those of you with comments on Bona Fide. When the band was with Sonance they called the shots as to what we could and couldn\'t do. They really didn\'t want to do much of ANYTHING....Josh Kroop and I got them to go with the record because I basically did it for free to make sure the band had something to keep it afloat, figuring that they would drop the band at some point. In the immortal words of The Stones, "you can\'t always get what you want, but if you try sometimes you get what you need."
Now that we control our own situation, we can hopefully resume upward progress. I\'d like to sell 10,000 or more copies of this CD, which will enable us to promote the band like crazy. But really, its up to us to make this work the way we think it should.
Cyaallsoon.

Time to dust it off the shelf!

I agree with you Mark.
I do think Hot Lanta totally rocks on Bona fide though. I think I remember PB having to cut Love Lake from the final Deuce lineup due to a shortage of disk space. Am I remembering correctly or is my memory getting foggy over the years?
I wonder if any other songs were recorded for fun in the studio?

Might be a bit late on this discussion, but I too am with gencs on this - voted for EME on the poll too. Though it is great to see they had the balls to give it a go. I know it\'s been done (by Dweezil Zappa), but they probably would have done a better job of Stayin\' Alive if they wanted to do a Bee Gees cover.
If freddie were proved to be correct and Earache is on the album, would it be a different version/mix?
-
no,but earache my eye definately is..
-
Jive talkin isnt on Real Radio..is it?
-
vic, great job on question mark and the mind at the benefit!!
-
so Vic, am I reading your post right? March 4th 2005 The Breakfast will be at Toads Place?
That is great news....
If the album is being released (per timmy on Friday night) on March 15th, does that mean we can purchase advanced copies on March 4th?
Peck, you doin another Post Toads **** Party? or should I book my room at the Holliday Inn now?

I grew up with a lot of punk influences but always liked plenty of other music genres, though I tried my darndest not to listen to jam music. I got into it accidentally when I had my first Breakfast experience back in \'99. Breakfast definitely opened some doors for me.
-
Hey ...that was my point ...everyone can voice an opinion. We just record what we have fun with, and hopefully some of you like it.
Its easy.
-
one of the reasons i do like the song was the Balls to sing/play it. No matter the genre Sick musicians know good music. Flat Out.

I really like Jive Talkin as well. I have always enjoyed the Bee Gees and was glad that the Breakfast was bold enough to try one of their songs.
-
as much as we bash bonafide,we need to keep in mind that not everyone gets to see the band as often as we might, and not everyone has the luxury of being able to get ahold of live shows like we do...
-
Hey Joc no worries u r in the majority. Last I looked @ the Poll I was the ONLY one who voted for Jive as their favorite track on the sampler. I personally love their take on it . Then again I am partial to gravelly voiced keyboard players being a big Brent Mydland fan so Jordan rocks it for me.
oh and Disco is not dead just hidin\' from all the heady kids.

Pretty much every song the Dead ever covered they weren\'t ready to do....but they did it anyway.
No matter....the official CD party is 3/4 at Toads. Real Radio is a major step up for The Breakfast and the general anticipation in the real world tells us the band is ready to go to the next level.
Someone said something about suits..........that\'s pretty funny.

Alright, I guess I must be lookin to get torn apart, because I am going to make this comment:
I don\'t like Jive Talkin\'. I really don\'t think they are ready to pull that one off vocally. I don\'t think it sounds good.
No complaints about the other tunes on the sampler though!
ok, commence yelling at jocelyn.
-
Thanks, guys - but February is definitely a no, no. Hoping for later in the year - maybe FF.
BTW, cut out the ageist comments!! ;) (Don\'t know the roll eyes smilie!!) Don\'t know how old Todd is, but as a 60s child, I\'ve got one up on most of you for being born in the best musical decade ever... well, at least till pb came along!
-
Boombox you should be taken care of..if Todd forgets..which he tends to do at his age, I will make sure you get a RR...unless sometime during the month of February you decide to come on over!
-
Hey Andy....I\'ll get a copy for ya and mail it to ya as soon as it comes out....I\'ll keep ya posted
-
For what it\'s worth..... I love Bona Fide.
-
I guess it wouldnt be great for the people going ahead of our time, but the folks that were going back in our time would be psyched....

I, too, would love to hear the Bona Fide show in its awesome entireity and it only being a single album is a real downer. However, for those not lucky enough to be able to see the boys playing on their doorstep or those unable to /unenlightened enough to spend hours downloading complete shows, it was a good taster of the band at the time.
Like everyone else, though, I am eagerly awaiting RR to see what they do with the songs in the studio - will probably be one of the only studio albums bought by me this year, last year or next year ;). Gotta work out some way of getting it almost the same time as you guys to be able to join in the inevitable chat on it.
-
My problems with Boner Fried....
1. I was really looking forward to a new studio album
2. It is NOT the complete show
3. I was really looking forward to a new studio album

Soured my taste on the whole disc......
But this is a Real Radio anticipation thread...
Which I am even more excited about now, than I was when I started typing this response...

Not that it\'s bad or anything...just out of place imo

i domn\'t get the bona fide critics....i listened to it today matta a fack.

Na, na, na....abduct him from his doorway with a canvas bag over his head. Should only take 3 or 4 of us to pull it off. Just wear a steel cup. I hear he kicks like a wild horse

Yeah.....that may happen.....People are worried about a TerryOB show in April messing with local attendance.....Considering I have heard talks of a CD release party at Toads, I dont see that happening. Althought I could only imagine how hard it would be to get a drink that night......if the breakfast were playing......

What the hell is Bona Fide? Is it supposed to be a Breakfast album or something? Will I accept it as an official release? NEVER!

From what I understand...It is a final cut and the first in a series of to be released compilations of sick ass jams.
-
I would hope Zone One is a final cut. It deserves to be. I feel it easily stands as a full release, so much more than a teaser....
-
I believe that the Zones recording is the final version, but I also think they\'re taking it out on the road with them this month, along with the Real Radio sampler.
-
I would also like to know if there are any special plans for marketing Real Radio. I hope the newly assembled mgmt. team has a great set of plans to spread the buzz.
-
Was the Zones disk a preliminary glimpse of a longer recording that will hit the merch. table in the coming months or was it merely an experimental teaser for the Freakout?

Can someone score me a copy of this disc??
Getting cash across to the US is a real hassle. If you have a Paypal account I can get the cash to you easy, or send $$ in the post if you trust the USPS.
-
I heard that it\'s actually gonna be a Good Time Boys album.
-
the word on the street....
Dweezel and MoonUnit Zappa will be sitting in on a hidden track for I\'m The Slime
-
as of now, there are 4 special guests on the album but there may be more, and I may be a liar.
-
I have heard of some great special guests on the upcoming album ...
-
Deuce went 39 days in my CD player after the release party, hopefully Real Radio tops that!

-
from the other thread on this subject:"......especially when it promises to be full of material even mainstream fans of rock can enjoy IMO."
I wrote that a few days ago as I really think the newer songs are a definate attempt by the guys to write real SONGS. I think the effort has been fruitful and am looking forward to purchasing another quality studio album from the 4 Bums Outta CT.
-
I can imagine a version of Doughboy with clear and audible lyrics (i.e. a studio version) being very radio friendly. As far as Vera St. goes, I would love to hear it get radio play, as long as it\'s not the only song that does. Hopefully, as well as getting radio play, this album gets DJs and execs to go back and listen to Deuce and Bona Fide.
-
i dont dig the name very much, probably because of my hatred for radio. i think timmy and the animal save a sequoia is a **** great title for an album. you folks on the board who know the band, make sure they name the next one that. anyways, i\'m assuming the new songs Inner Glipmse, Doughboy, No Regret, and Vera St will be there cause thats kinda already been established. i hope there will be some secret new songs that they havn\'t played live yet cough epi 3 cough. i think it would be sick if sundance finally made it on an album. i\'ll get started on the cover art umkay....
-
I could actually see several of the new tunes getting radio play... Inner Glipmse, Doughboy, No Regret, Vera St. (although I hope not, as it is not a good representation of what pb is all about)....
-
The only radio friendly tune I can think of from whats on that album would be Vera St. And what a great tune that would be to hear making it out on the radiowaves....
As far as the album name goes, I like it. I would have prefered
Timmy and the Animal Save a Sequoia
or
The Breakfast: Livin Life With No Regrets
-
hmmmmm looks like we might have to get the boys on the show and discuss :)
-
Is the title any indication that the songs will be radio friendly? Are they trying to get air play?
-

I feel the same way. I love that song! I would assume Doughboy\'s going to be on there too. Def my two fav new songs...
As for the title...it sounds pretty cool. Would be interested to hear the story behind it....if there is one.
So where did this info come from? You guys have a bug planted in the van??
-
up, the cats out of the bag.
As far as songs on the album, if you have been to/listened to recent shows, tim has periodically said "this next tune is off our upcomming album" If you peice them all together, you\'ll have like 5 songs already confirmed
check out the last porters show for examples
-
the name has been kicking around for a while. it was actually one of the names discussed for \'Bona Fide\'.
-
I\'m assuming "Real Radio" is the name of it......I donno about anybody else but i can\'t say i like it.
Well, their probally is a story behind it which i also don\'t know about
-
Do we have a confirmed track list yet?
I know, from listening to the Guilford Green show that No Regret is definately on there, and could very well be my current favorite Breakfast new tune...
Will Vera St. be the Breakfast\'s first BIG HIT?
Personally I think it has the potential to grab many many people who think, "the breakfast is not my cup of tea"
-
Real Radio
the 3rd studio album, and 4th official release from The Breakfast.
coming October 2004.
discuss. :)
